She MADE all the costumes? Jesus, this woman is remarkable. Truly.

She is incredible, a veritable talent. The only thing I would she could have invested in more was an editor to cut the film where I feel it was needed. But maybe I'm wrong and the length is part of her vision.

AND she made the rug by hand that Elaine lays on and says "love me". took her six months. Anna Biller is a gift!

@@iuliaionelapetcu1411 I think it is part of her vision. That type of editing is part of the 60's/70's aesthetic and style. If you watch any movie of that time period you would notice that the shots are long and sometimes it feels weird. But that's how they did it back then.

I'm speechless what a true talent.. she made the costumes too???

It makes sense when she says the movie isn't rooted in other witch/horror/skin-flick/exploitation movies of the late 60's/early 70's because watching it the first time, it FEELS like a movie of that era. And as she notes, the directors at that time were making those movies without references to the new territory they were forging, but more rooted in the Technicolor melodramas and thrillers from the 50's.

I fell in love with this film. The cinematography was gorgeous and she was able to immerse you in the 60s/70s setting with everything from the costume to the soundtrack. Even the way the actors delivered their lines was so indicative of the time; feeling more stillted and formal. Even the fights were choreographed in a way that reminded me of the time. It was such a treat to see it done in such an effective way. And the storytelling was amazing as well. Such a talented person she is

Absolutely incredible movie. And the fact that Anna made all the costumes herself (which is my favorite part about the movie. The costumes and the sets and makeup) while being ill is just incredible!!! I must see more of her work!

"This is as modern as I get", love that line. :) Such a refreshing experience this movie, just what's desperately needed again. Finally a new movie, that's actually watchable without getting a headache from rapid editing silly angles and fake uniformed colors. To many people now, TLW may be a different experience but prior to the last 14 years (of destruction of cinema as I call it), this is actually how movies looked. It was nothing special back then nor was it necessary for the viewer to waste time paying attention to weird aesthetics that drarws your attention away from the plot, it was just natural. That's all gone from filmmaking now sadly, to a large degree. I hope Biller stays true to this vision, bringing back natural lighting and colors to films so we can have true realism back. Our current times' studio imposed post-production nonsense, people are tired of that sameness duped upon them by the industry.

But this movie doesn't use natural lighting or realism at all. In fact it goes pretty dam far in the opposite direction. She even says in this interview that the set was flooded with the kind of big studio lighting necessary for classic technicolor pictures. The acting and production design too cast it in a very formalist, fantastical light. This movie is about as far from realism as you can get.

I grew up seeing a ton of schlock horror B movies late nights on tv, Fridays. This honestly looks like one that got left over in a corner of the tv studio. She got everything right. The look, the cinematography, the script. It is insanely accurate.

Before I watched the movie, I saw it being referenced alot on IG (I follow alot of witch posts) so I ASSUMED it was a movie from the 60s era hahahah and the very beginning also seemed like a 60s movie until Elaine drives up to the house and Trish pulls up in her modern car
