    Morning Olly,
    Nothing wrong with a good rant in the morning especially when it comes to un educated people who understand nothing to do with the country side especially Farming and Gamekeepers, after 35 years of being a Head Gamekeeper I have had so many rants like this trying to point out that we Farmers & Gamekeepers are the best ambassadors to the country side because we need the country side more than others to sustain our livelihoods.
    Keep up the good work
    Thanks

    Top rant Olly, being able to have a view like Chris packham is a first world problem, any shortage of food and that view would be straight out the window. He abuses his position and unfortunately the flip side of the argument is never presented.

    Olly, have you ever wondered where every households, sink washings, bath/ shower water full of soap and shampoo and washing machine water go on a daily basis? Think of the concentration of water to chemicals compared with crop spraying.

    Good rant, Olly.
    One of mine is the government banging on about reducing carbon, but focussing on farming as a means of reduction! We ship crap around the world, fly all over the place for 'holidays' and transport stuff overland frantically - yet they want us to produce less food to cut carbon! How daft is that, especially when we are building zillions more homes on good quality farmland as well - more water needed, more sewage to treat, more electricity to generate, etc, etc. If we're serious about avoiding drastic climate change, we need to halt our population growth and find ways to manage it down - urgently. No more building, lets make better use of what we have and stop eating up our countryside now. Our numbers are the real problem !

    A Good rant is beneficial to your well-being. Unfortunately a lot of the uneducated educated people somehow find a platform to mislead the general public. You mentioned Chris Packham, the man is a bloody nuisance peddling his version of the facts 90% skewed to meet his own views. We all love wildlife and the countryside we live in which we all have taken part in maintaining.90%

    morning Olly loved the bit about the vegan activists saying all this rubbish about agriculture most of them know nothing about how farming actually is I saw one bloke who was going on about how meat gives you cancer and how 85% of the grain grown goes to feed animals just really funny to see them try and prove their point sometimes And I love a good rant.

  • @ruairidhmunro
    @ruairidhmunro 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Thanks for the Rant Olly ... unfortunately, 'debate' is no longer based on fact but rather cherry picked statistics that support one arguement or the other. Usually from studies produced by organisations with a vested interest in one or other view. Studies are carried out that seek out cases that support their position. Individuals seek out information on the internet that only supports and reinforces their initiial view.
    If we DON'T raise sheep/cattle to food production, we'll need MORE arable crops and therefore more land cleared for mono-culture crops and more chemicals. Either that or import all our food from countries that don't give a toss about the environment.

    I’m so pleased to hear that Mr Packham infuriates you as well. The problem is, his biased and in most cases, inaccurate views are the ones that get publicised because it’s so ‘fashionable'. When I was farming, I worked really hard to make every acre productive - and got some government grants to do it - and now, they want reverse it, and pay you for doing it. Sheer lunacy!

  • @paulsaffrey906
    @paulsaffrey906 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    It's so frustrating to me that your explanation of farming practices are not heard by a wider audience most people live in ignorance regarding where our food comes from and what is involved to its production. Our children have all been taught from a early age about farming and how the food they eat gets to the table and they love to learn and ask questions that we are happy to answer the so called environmentalists are shouting their views based on incorrect information makes my blood boil! Keep the rant's going Olly we all need hard working farmer's like you and my family and I are huge admirers 👍

    I get this all the time too, I'm a Groundsman and use Glyphosate as a weed prevention method, i'd rather use that than be out there for 6 hours with a hoe, when i won't get all the root, people just don't understand. for the amount i use, its nothing. with the meat thing, if you want to be vegan or veggie, then fair play to you, but you don't need to ram it down the throats of people that enjoy a good steak. Good vid and great rant. keep up the great work.

    Another problem in this country is that we have a minister for agriculture in the government who has probably never worn a pair of wellies, and doesnt know the differance between wheat and barley and then trys to tell farmers how do do their job. Its a joke.
    Lover your RANT you were talking pure sense, Glyphosate is easily the safest herbicide on the market, I have sprayed thousands of acres with it in my life. Another group that talk rubbish and exagerate their lies is the anti GM plant brigade.

    Think you answered your own question. Think Packham is a vegan, so as you stated, meat eating makes the brain grow. He does use facts , twisted to put his views across. Ask most shooting men, and game shoots, he has tried to get laws passed to make it almost impossible for shooting to continue in uk. My answer to this type of person is, just look at the contents of a pigeons crop after feeding on farm crops, then multiply by the hundreds of pigeons eating this amount every day, then try to convince me, they do no harm. Sorry , looks like ranting is contagious.

    Do people forget that there is a reason why we farm in the uk the way we do, people didn't just start breeding cows to kill and eat for the fun of it, it's because our wet, cool climate grows grass and we can't grow other proteins like soya beans. Also farmers are trying to grow the most affordable food in the most efficient way and are not just doing things for the fun of it or to kill wild animals, most farmers like seeing wildlife too as long as it's not having a detrimental effect on their crops or animals, more habits are ruined by big housing estates going up on field than by farmers farming the fields as they have done for hundreds of years
