This is an Agvanian church, but it acquired its current form recently, in the 17th century. At the very beginning, this place was a sacred place, even before Christianity. Already on the ruins of that sacred place, a small temple was built, even rather a cell (this is still the 1st century, there were simply no churches then). Aghvans (they are also Caucasian Albanians) used this place in sacred Christian rites and rituals before the advent of Islam. After that, the place was not particularly used anymore, and only in the 12th century, at the height of culture under the Atabeks of Azerbaijan (they are the Ildegizids dynasty), what is now commonly called multiculturalism developed throughout the country. And this church, like Sheki itself (the city was formerly called Nukha) and this village of Kish, has the same relation to Armenia and Armenians as the Aztecs have to London. That is, none. In the Caucasus, the local church had a common Christian script, which came from Ethiopia (yes, don’t be surprised, because they are also Monophysites), which later became known as Armenian, and which later became, for some reason, only Armenian. But in the Middle Ages, the Christian Monophysite movement and its followers were basically called Armenian and Armenians. That is, it was not about a nation or a country, but about a religious trend. ... In short, it's a long time) In short, this church in Kish has zero relation to Armenia) ...And by the way, studies were carried out here even before the restoration of its independence by Azerbaijan. Initially, they were led by a team led by the Norwegian explorer and archaeologist Thor Heyerdahl. Then, already in this century, Norwegian explorers continued. It was they, not us, who revealed the date about the 1st century
@False Horizons Guys there are many layers and sides of the same story... I know you didn''t mean that, cause you are a positive adequate person, but please before doing such a very serieus allegations you need to know the whole story from both sides. It's very easy to say something, but this can be heartfull for many people. In 1830 the Russian empire gave the Caucasian Abanian Orthodoxe Church under controle of Armenian Grigorian Church. In that time 24% of the population on the territory of current Azerbaijan were Aran-Udi christians. But Why Russian Empire did it? Cause before the conquering the caucasion region the Alabanians (Aran, Udi or Agvan christians) where strongly fighting against the domination of Russian Empire in this region. Armenian church in opposite was the backbone and allies of Russians in the Caucasus, Iran en Turkey. So in order to strengthen the position of the allies Armenians in the Caucausus, from 1830 almost everywhere in Caucasus region the Russian Empire in collaboration with Armenians started the proces of incorporation of albanians to Armenian church and erasement of Albanian culture, bibels, inscriptions on the walls etc. Many of the Albanians convert to Islam just to avoid the harrasment, descrimantion and armenisation. There are so many facts that showing the armenian inscriptions were puted on the wall of the churches in the late of 19 century. Very little of those albanians (aran, agvan and udi people) are still christians (30.000) . This are the people that were hiding their religion for honderd of years. Only after the fall of soviet union they got the freedom to show opnely their religion and identity. You really need to visite one of the Udi christian settlements and talk to them. They all will tell you their unpleasent story of the 200 year long of systematic culturale erasement and presucution. Every story is very complicated, so please don't make easy one sided statemnets and heartfull allegations
Revisionist theories of Caucasus Albanian narrative by the Azerbaijan government and the cultural vandalism perpetrated by the Azerbaijan government, such as (but not limited to) physically removing Armenian inscriptions on this church, has been strongly condemned by international governments and organisations.
@@falsehorizons you are absolutely wrong. Christian Caucasian Albania was many centuries earlier than the Armenians moved to the Caucasus. This is a historical fact. There are facts. And you don't know the story, you talk nonsense
