I had a similar problem with iPhone 15pro. Photos after import to LRC looked similar until I found a video about proRAW and LRC. ProRAW is not RAW, it is a file edited by iPhone to look good on the phone. Personally, I change profiles to Adobe Color or Adobe Standard after import. Then each photo looks similar to a normal RAW from the camera, i.e. it is darker, without colors, pale, without such contrast, ready for editing, then I edit like a normal RAW photo.

That exposure problem of the DNG most likely is caused because Lightroom or Photoshop doesn’t have the correct codec for that particular Raw profile. I had that problem on ARW files from Sony at the beginning with Sony cameras when they were released for the first time (the A-mount era). This was most noticeable on the A700 and later. So, most likely, Lr or ACR requires an update.

I also went for the standard iPhone 16 since I neither need the 120mm nor the 13mm. Like you nicely said, you use them way too little.I'd rather save the money. The thing with the RAW format is also super weird. But it could be more of an Adobe issue than an Apple one.

I have been bugging Adobe to create the "Adobe Standard" profile for the 16 series lenses. I like to create my own linear profiles. I prefer to shoot in 12MP Bayer RAW via a 3rd party camera app. You are dealing with trying to correct the Deep Fusion and noise reduction. I am not a big fan of ProRaw unless conditions are really bright or the scene is low light. When I have the linear profiles, I will have one for each iPhone lens.

I’m not sure what are the fuss is about the new camera button. To me, I think it’s about how you hold it and how to you use it. For me, taking pictures holding one hand is fine. If the button was any lower to the bottom it would be impossible. As for portrait mode, it worked great too, doesn’t obstruct any view or functions. I feel all the haters out there are just so used to using the old button that they nitpick anything new that doesn’t immediately gratifies them.

Muscle memory takes care of the awkwardness of Camera Control - spend some time with it and it’s suddenly feels quick and accurate. Pretty obvious Apple is baking in some adjustments to their “Pro Raw” files before dropping them into the DNG wrapper - so not the same as a traditional raw file. I prefer have Styles, Tones, and the fake (but decent) blur available to me as creative choices.

  • @gingrai00

I have been really happy shooting in the HIEF max or JPG max format and editing using RNI’s excellent app… I am switching to the 16 Pro soon and am also looking forward to their 24 MP files which Apple uses some computational photography to produce. 24MP is enough resolution for me. I love photography and backpacking but weight is always an issue so I have decided to bring a lightweight mirrorless (Nikon Z30) with a 36mm equivalent prime and an 84mm equivalent prime (this comes in around 1.5 lbs) for most of my shooting and I will rely on the iPhone for wide angle and video. I brought a version of this (Z30 w/16-50 and iPhone 14 Pro) with me to Iceland recently and was very happy with it. My guess is that I’ll use the camera control as a way to open the camera app and as the shutter button but not for the controls.

I have been having fun shooting in the stark b & w mood and then adjusting the tone. it's fun and very retro. for me it's easier to adjust highlights and shadows with no color which I can always be add the color back in later. I always used to import my 13 pro max raw files and immediately change the profile to Adobe standard. The apple proraw profile is sooooo bad, the photo is so difficult to edit with that. But I would honestly still be shooting in proraw on the 16 pro and spend a bit more time editing them as oppsed to jpeg or heif, they just have that digitally processed and oversharpened look no matter how much you play with the tones. As for the ultra wide, I have to agree with you, I barely used it, it's just too wide and I can't find suitable things to shoot with it. Maybe it's because on the 13 it is also an extremely crappy camera

  •  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

You have to wait for the Adobe update. Happen´s every time new cameras come out. Adobe is not that fast implementing new cams. Overall I love my 16 Pro Max. Camera Button is a welcome addition. I upgraded from a 15 Pro Max and the 4k120fps is a real game changer. Would be cool if you talked more about the new Pro Raw Formats JPEG-XL Losless and JPEG-XL Lossy. That would be interesting.

What do you think is going to improve with support? Raws from ip14pro still act the same way - very underexposed in contrast scene, and not acting like RAWs when using Apple ProRAW profile.

    •  หลายเดือนก่อน

@@MagicWeddingPhotographer ProRAW files are definitely more powerful than JPEGs, but they’re not as “raw” as what you’d get from a traditional DSLR or mirrorless camera. For most people, though, they offer a great balance between flexibility and ease of use. If you’re deep into post-processing and want more control, this limitation could be a bit frustrating.
If you’re serious about photography and want the cleanest raw data, you’d still probably reach for a camera with a larger sensor. But for on-the-go shooting with your iPhone, ProRAW is still an impressive format.

For me the 0.5 camera is useless - I don’t remember ever taking a decent photo with that lens, but at the same time really miss the 3x which I used to use for maybe 50% of my iPhone photos. What a shame Apple did not provide 1x 3x and 5x lenses - that would have been perfect. Mind you I only use my iPhone for impromptu snaps - any professional photos I still use my Sony A1

  • @1alb

I was thinking of getting an iPhone 16 Pro - went to the Apple store - tried out all the iPhone 16 models - the camera control button was less than appealing; fiddly, in the wrong position for comfortable use, and considering it takes less that 1 second to go to and use the controls on the screen, it’s pretty much just a gimmick, and a poorly thought out gimmick at that. I much prefer the ease of use of my iPhone 15 Pro, and difference in photo quality is so minimal it would be a real stretch to call it an upgrade of any merit. I’m sticking with my 15 Pro.

You have to create a new preset just for iPhone RAW, but is very worth it to me. You can give it your own look and remove the extreme sharpening and clarity that iPhone bakes into the JPGs.

For some reason, ALL experts on the new iPhone camera button missed the major purpose of its control. That is, when using it to control exposure, “aperture”, etc. it will lock the setting, rather than touch screen that automatically adjust exposure settings when one moves the camera around.
This alone allows me to have more creative control and at the same time pause me to compose and take pics with my iPhone more carefully.
When I first got my iPhone 16 Pro Max a week ago, and eagerly to try it out, I was mostly disappointed (upgraded from iPhone 13 Pro Max), and didn’t realize the nuance in the evolution from 13 to 16, both in hardware & software.
