    Thanks! I'm the guy who asked, and it definitely helped.

    Cool! For the stopped groove(both ends), as long as you can cut the first few paths to establish the side walls, I think it will make things much easier for a router plane especially you have a nice little one! For the left/right hand operation things, I guess you can get used to eighter way but you need the left hand one so you can always go with the grain!

      Haha yeah the left hand one would have a major advantage to help with grain direction, though that'd be more for beads in my opinion. Light cuts and the fact that only the top edge of a groove is usually visible means I don't often care what the bottom of it looks like lol

    I've played around with the same problem. Thing is, I never want stop grooves to end with that much un-grooved space at either end. If you're doing short grooves, then you just have to do them entirely with chisels. I've started to use simple rabbets at the ends of box sides, so I seldom do stop groves or or stop dadoes any more. Only when I get my router plane made will I have the stop groove problem solved.

      I agree, it's definitely one of those "you can, but it's not great" situations lol

    I've been considering buying one of these . Currently using my Veritas router plane flipped over with a fence on locked in my vise and slide the box side instead of normal use . odd but it works especially for really small boxes. any way thanks .

      Haha that does sound odd, but if it works it works! It always feels like the smaller the project the harder it is to work on, especially when it comes to work holding too

    I really like the LN small router. Think they’re the best small routers.

    • @MosquitoMade

      Agreed. The LV probably isn't bad for a bunch less money, but the round cutter shank kind of turned me off of it

    It wish veritas would have made a removable nose piece to make it a bullnose plow plane. I’ve considered buying an old record plow plane like I have and removing the front skate just for this purpose.

    • @MosquitoMade
      @MosquitoMade  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That would be nice for stuff like this for sure!

    Justification for the left hand version. Lol

    • @MosquitoMade
      @MosquitoMade  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't ordered one yet, but now I can sell myself on it 🤣. But truthfully, it wasn't as awkward to use left handed as I feared. I figured if nothing else it'd be nice comedic blooper footage lol

    Thank you very much! Can the same be done with the Record 043?

    • @MosquitoMade
      @MosquitoMade  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome! Yup, same exact operation work the Record 043. Can be done with any plow plane really, it's just easier with the 043 sized planes because the front skates are shortest

      Hi Chris, Thanks again for your reply. I would like to ask you a questions as someone who now has experience with both the Veritas Box-Maker’s Plow Plane and the Record 043. I was very excited when I saw the new “upgraded Record 043” Veritas version and there is much I like about it. (Most of my joinery planes are from Veritas while my bench planes and specialty planes are from Lie-Nielsen).
      For regular grooves I use the Veritas Combination Plane. But I really wanted a small plough plane for small boxes / drawers which is the intent of the Record 043 / Veritas Box-Maker’s and as you have demonstrated (Christopher Schwarz as well) they can come handy for stopped grooves. The only deal-breaker for me when it comes to the new Veritas Box Maker’s Plow Plane is that the rods are not adjustable from the fence and when dealing with small stock the rods can get in the way of holding devices, and that is the reason I went with a good working condition Record 043.
      Not sure what is the condition of your Record 043, but if it is working properly and you had to choose one between these two planes (for the purpose they are made for) which one would you choose?
      P.S. Sorry about the long message.

      @@edwardleonard9901 No problem on the long comment! I kind of covered some of that in the full review I did, and you're right, the fence rods were my biggest complaint as well. Basically I'd take an 043 over a Box Maker's Plow if my main use was grooves (or if I have other ways to do beads, which I do...). Clean 043's are slightly cheaper in the US (though not by a ton until you factor in all the irons of the Veritas). I do like the ergonomics of the Veritas more than the 043, but the main reason I'd pick a Box Maker's Plow over an 043 is the ability to use it for small beads. If beads aren't part of the workflow, then I'd take/keep 043 (I have 3 lol)

      @@MosquitoMade Crystal Clear! Thanks. I also use the Combination plane for beading, reeding and fluting. For small beads I use the Cast Scratch Stock also from Veritas which is based on one of the Edward Preston & Sons' tools. It works really well, simple, easy to use, not as expensive, and It also works on curves! Thanks again! keep the great info and videos coming.

      @@edwardleonard9901 I've heard that about scratch stocks, Windsor beaders, and other names of them, but I don't know why I've never picked one up myself... I should fix that one of these days lol

    Good presentation but this application is very inefficient. It’s a question that needed an answer however so kudos……

      Haha exactly. Can it be done? Sure, should it be done this way? If it had to, I guess lol
