I just wish I could talk to the judge and ask her what it was about the program that made it warrant such a high technical mark, given the relative lack of jumps. I know that technical merit is about more than jumps, but I would like to know what else impressed her so much. I guess the speed, the footwork, the centering on the final scratch spin, things like that? I fully agree with a 5.7 for artistic but 5.7 seems high for technical.
Yuka has gotten quite a bit of criticisms over the years but I always thought her programs were "perfect" skating programs. Incredible edges, great speed, beautiful use of her arms. For having the stereotypical "power" skater's build her jumps were disappointingly small but she was surprisingly and remarkably graceful. People can go ahead and call her fat and boring and live in a fantasy world where Bonaly should've defeated her in 94 - Surya had literally nothing over Yuka that night except for clean triple jumps - but I have always found her performances to be very satisfying.
I agree with Vanessa Riley (the GBR judge) who placed Sato second in the LP here. She appreciated what figure skating was truly about.
SDoesNotKnow great skater, but 2nd was pushing it wayyyyy to much, no lutz or flip and a popped loop

Yuka had much more than jumps. Speed, joy, power, great edges! Those toe jumps gave her trouble but the edge jumps were first rate!

Calling Yuka sato boring that’s criminal
She’s gorgeous….
Beautiful!
有香さんが、全選手の中で一番のびのび演技していたように見えました😀
Beautiful girl, beautiful skater.
I honestly think she had better skating skills and presentation compared to Yamaguchi
She reminds me of Wakaba Higuchi. Similar body build, explosive jumps, popped jumps...
Yes!😂
I don’t think she was better than Chen Lu !
Lu in 1992 was a better jumper, that's about all. Lulu had speed but her basics were inferior to Yuka's.
Music selections for the Olympics. Eh.
Su traje es igual al de tonya Harding :0
Good skater but sloppy looking jumps, some good triples! But reminds me of junior skater
she was actually quite strong............1 mistake in an otherwise very strong program
@@grantnoroyan9275 and her basic skating is beautiful, incredible. Too bad she was entering an era jumping stength was so important.
No junior skater has those world class skating skills.
You’re absolutely crazy! Yuka was great!
Loved her as a pro, but she looks pudgy here
I wouldn't cry if I woke up and had that body.
With the sport oversaturated these days by prepubescent anorexic Russians, most of the skaters of the 80’s and 90’s look big by comparison.
@@syrinx114 true
@@sheriffburfordt.justice4488 work out and diet and you can :)
@@syrinx114 agree. This is a lady skating and not a little girl. Her build is strong 💪 and powerful not fat.
