Just found you and I’m about to binge every video (and like, already subscribed!). Everything you say has such resonance. I lived for my 30s in the Middle East and moving back home to the UK didn’t improve any of the things I thought it would improve. I still miss everything about the Middle East more than I ever missed ‘home’ and I’ve been back home for 12 years now. Also, every single thing Katt Williams said. That is a wise man. Much love to you and I am excited for the next chapter of your life.

Something I credit to "helping" homesickness is the fact a lot of people I knew from home were leaving too! And of the ones that weren't, they wanted to. Either for a sense of adventure or just cost of living. Any time I was homesick I also had in my mind that it was not the same home from years prior I had the nostalgia for.
Also it helped having friends already at the destination to avoid romanticizing it. No one complains about their home more than the natives.

Moved back from South Korea to the U.S. after two years abroad and I completely feel how you feel. America is HARD and I feel like I pulled out of SK a little too soon. I'm definitely planning to go abroad as soon as I can afford to.

Thank you so much for this vid. It's rough being brutally honest with self reflection and then sharing what you learned, but it helps to guide others who share your experiences and emotions. I feel like I impulsively left Korea early and leapt into a situation that wasn't as good, but it comes with the territory of being abroad and away from those who know you best to give brutally honest advice. It's a wonderful, challenging lifestyle. Sometimes you get burnt out and need to return home to reset mentally, then reload for another adventure. Best of luck!

Travelingdia is one of my Hero's (as are you). You were spot on when you corrected her @2:39 "You're not a failure". She can't see it now because her _Expectations_ focused on the wrong outcome. But in time, when some old(er) jerk like me, who has been around some - is trying to explain to her how great X-Y-Z Country is, and she starts rolling her eyes - says "...See Travelingdia, you don't know nuthin' 'bout nuthin', 'cause you ain't never been nowhere..."
She's gonna put old jerk in his place by responding, "...You don't know nuthin' 'bout me. _I have _*_Lived in,_* not just visited, another Country. My boots were on the ground. I found that it just wasn't for me, as an Individual. That aspect of my life will never be a regret." That ain't an "L" for Travelingdia, it's a big fat life *W.*

I’ve been living in NY for 18 years! I have never lived abroad, but I did move to NY at 18 years old. Honestly, I relate to both stories. But I do understand the hardship one could encounter living abroad. However, I did learn to overcome my hardships and grow more independently.
Yet, I believe that many men and women romanticize the country and people of the place they decide to move to. Research over dramas, word of mouth with people who never lived abroad- and try to find authentic YT creators- who give you the “TEA.” lol Jessica🎉 of course!!!!
Most importantly, how do you view the world and yourself in it? Our perception of the reality around us plays a huge part in how we view ourselves and life.
Do you ask for help/ guidance? Are you a problem solver/ or looking for problems?
Don’t expect people/ places or things to add value to your life. Yes, it's a part of the experience, but learn to see it from a spiritual/ learning perspective. Somebody once told me to stop having expectations of the material world. Allow the moment to be what it will be to you then.
Living in NY alone- I lost friends and family members because of the experiences/ lessons I had learned along my journey, which helped me become a better person. Often, we outgrow the people we have grown up with and hung out with when we were younger, and that is because our views change. Trust me, I was so afraid to explore life and live. Once I did, that truly altered how I saw the world and myself in it. People will judge what they fear and discredit what they don't know. So, why allow a few bad experiences to keep you from any new adventure or opportunity to be a better you?
Regardless of who, what, and where we are, we require a growth mindset for our minds, bodies, and souls to develop. (whatever you believe in) I say, “Develop to be involved in God.”
    To each their own!😊
But I will add a bonus. Your personality makes or breaks how an experience may affect you mentally. ❤
For me, I learned through living in the USA- people will be people no matter where you are, and the experience will vary vastly depending on whatever your “Why“ was in the first place to visit or move abroad or anywhere.
P.S. I’ve been in NY, and no one wants me either 😂😢 but I’ve always been a weird one.😂😂😂
Along my journey to become a better me and heal, I've experienced setbacks and heartbreaks due to my scarcity of knowledge about myself and the world. When you realize you're in the world, not of it, it hits your funny bone, and you realize how short and beautiful life is. ❤
Now let me get out of Jess's comments 😂😂bc I edited this 6x so that I didn't sound crazy AF!!😂😂😂
Also, I don't miss my family or long to go home. Out of my 18 years in NY, I've been home to visit 4 times. I did move back for a 1 1/2 but left right after.

This. Is. SO. GOOD! So many gems 💎!
We are in this world, not of it is one of my faves! That always gets me together when I’m in a place I don’t really want to be in.
People have difficulty moving domestically all the time. A woman called The Breakfast Club the other day to vent about how she moved from Philly to Atlanta and things aren’t going well.
NY at 18 must have been a beast! But clearly you handled it and began to thrive. What’s your hometown?

@@DualityIsAThing North Carolinaaaaa!!!!Ayyyyyyeee gon and raise up !! Take yo’ shirt off… you know the rest!! Lol 😂
I was born in Winston-Salem. I decided to move to NYC for college - I have family in NY as well…but.. eh.. a story for another time and place. I love them dearly, but I had to grow up, and that took me through some rough experiences. I didn’t always choose to get up gracefully. Let’s put it that way!
Lol, I was not too fond of NYC after the 10th year but realized it was me who had some issues to sort out and heal from.
You can’t blame a person, state, city, or country for your unhappiness. Lol, you can be stressed by what is happening or done, but your authentic happiness results from whatever your narrative about yourself is.
I think transitioning from my old self helped me become more resilient. Not only to live independently but to start being aware of myself and how I fit in this life. I returned to school in my late 30s and took the initiative to change my pessimistic perspective.
Now, I can't wait to travel and graduate 😩 so I can be a part of effective change.
I think some of us view traveling and living alone as something so demeaning. But for me, without my family helped me trust myself more and become a student of life. When I did make a mistake, I learned to let it go. I'm still working on that, tho… bc of course, I’m a #Sag. I overthink everything and nothing at the same time. Lol 😂

Yeah I also couldn’t relate. It’s weird, but i’ve literally never felt homesickness. Ironically I miss the country I moved back to the US from. That feels more like home to me now. I’m so curious in exploring this phenomenon of hating living abroad (not the place but being abroad) in general. I feel like it must have a lot to do with where you’re at in life and how you have closure with moving abroad. I sold everything and had a big party. I was welcomed when i arrived by friends. I have more friends abroad than at home. I feel like if you don’t have that, if you move straight from a big tight knit family and don’t really close any chapters it can be veryyy very difficult. Maybe that what sis experienced. for me, moving abroad was how i found community

    • @DualityIsAThing
      @DualityIsAThing 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Saaaaame! I didn’t really miss anything deeply I guess because I had closure with everything too. I didn’t leave things in storage, sold it all or gave it away too. Had a goodbye party, left nothing unsaid. If I missed anyone for a second we just FaceTime and we’re good!
Conversely, I kind of left China abruptly even though deep down I didn’t think it was the right thing to do. I let outside pressure get to me.
Look at you making me therapize myself! 😂😂😂
I empathize with Día and people who feel like her. I hope someone who feels this way comments to give us more insight!

I watched your videos and realized why you didn’t grow as a channel. You relied too much on your native viewers instead of your Chinese audience. You should speak more Chinese in your videos to got viral on douyin, and have more subtitles in Chinese so the Chinese netizens can follow you. You would actually do better than most Chinese content creators if you took advantage of your Chinese. The Chinese always complement even if you don’t speak it fluently, but the fact that you try they appreciate it.
