Too bad Al didn't win, since he was so excited to be there, and had good clues/answers . Just the luck of the draw . The lady also deserved to win, so good for her.
I hadn't realized this show was this old. I've seen the 25,000 version on the old Game Show Network more often than any other version. This episode features two of my favorite celebs, too.
A lot of the episodes from the 70s version were wiped, as was the common practice at the time. So the 70s version hasn’t gotten the same kind of exposure in reruns as the 80s version has.
@@jaredjlinden Back in an era where video tape was expensive (so it was reused) and nobody thought that a 50 year old game show would have any rerun value.
The ABC run had been preempted 15 times by this point. The most recent preemption was a 90-minute Special hosted by Patricia Neal titled "The American Woman: Portraits of Courage" on May 20, 1976.
George Hamilton - Things That Are Whipped and Lucie Arnaz - Things That Sway. Those celebrities are featured in the montage and those were the categories at the top of the board that were correctly guessed.
These early episodes were the best with the excitement and the screaming and yelling and genuine happiness for the money they won ! In the 80s and beyond most of the winners were asked to sit and calm down way too soon !!!!!
I'm so unhappy that the first several years of the Pyramid game show has been erased. But we still have tapes of shows from the 60's and 50's still out and able to watch. Shame on whoever erased those early Pyramid episodes.
Michael Strayhan in the current $100,000 Pyramid doesn't even let the winners rejoice. He hurriedly walks over to the Winners Circle and interrupts the excitement. What a shame.😢😢
@@chapter7thomas Had ABC President Fred Silverman knew about this sooner, he could have helped preserve the Billy Crystal 26 second win victory episode!
And Claudia won 99 times what she had won in the first Winner's Circle. She won the regular $550 in bonus round, but also earned another $14,300 for completing the pyramid and left.
@@paulnguyen8910 During the ABC Pyramid era, everything was aggregated to the top prize so if she won $15,000, that's exactly what she got to leave with give or take. If a contestant won $10,000, that person takes home exactly $10,000 no more, no less. The next show that would follow that procedure was Match Game 1990.
I noticed how the contestants did a lot of jumping around, up and down, in and out of their seats in earlier episodes that wasn't present/allowed in later years.
Jo Ann Worley had the tie braker letter starting with "E". She got to Eclair and tried in vain to get her partner so say the word. Being that he could not come up with it, Jo Ann should have passed to the next word on the list of 7. If she had done that, and the contestant responded correctly, the game ends in a tie. So then another two letters would be chosen to break the tie. BUT it never happens. Just think if it had, the guy might have gotten to the WC. Think about it.
The second session win with Tony Randall is superb and exciting!!!!!
In "Things in 'King Kong'", I woulda said, "Jessica Lange, Jeff Bridges, Skull Island, World Trade Centre".
These clues would never be allowed on the newer seasons.
the little bottle of pills would be buzzed
If you want a reason WHY the preposition rule was put into effect, Tony Randall in the first WC gives a great example.
Okay.. THAT'S why he didn't get buzzed. I understand.
@@Jack21Spades Preposition rule was not in effect here. I can't find out exactly when they introduced it, but you see a great example as to why.
I braced myself for the buzzer on this one.

Tony Randall.
Expertise!

Look closely at the first montage. You think it's Henry Winkler, The Fonz from Happy Days, but SHAZAM! It's George Hamilton!

Yeah...I couldn't believe who had that win in that montage...George Hamilton...wow I never knew he had a win.
Great job, ABC, at wiping most of the 70's run of the Pyramid.

A hoop on the street is a prepositional phrase...then stuffings in little bottles of pills is also a prepositional phrase...two major mistakes
So true. The judging was too lenient back then.
A gear in a car is also not acceptable either. A prepositional phrase. Geez.
A gear in a car is the wrong thing to say...prepositional phrase. How about A CARS' GEARS

Stuffings in little bottles of pills would not work in the current Pyramid game show...NO WAY.
I was surprised it cleared on THIS episode...way too descriptive. Had he said, "pill bottle stuffing"....
Edyth the contestant coordinator would not allow me to get onto the show. I tried out 9 times to get on this show. Never happened.
Stuffings in bottles of pills is legal clue?
I had a question on that too
A too descriptive clue
