All TH-camrs are marketers. They have to market themselves to you. Don't ever think otherwise. That is not who they are. Not that they are all sociopaths that are hiding their true selves but they need to make themselves desirable to a demographic and then provide content as such.

Man, Perplex City owned. One of my favorite memories from my college years was totally skipping out on a report to be a part of the last big live event, when we along with the game's characters worked together over IRC and phone calls to finally take down the game's antagonists, the Third Power. We had to call a fake office building and trick them into resetting the building's elevator systems, print out and solve paper puzzles, solve color-based codes to shut down security...and all this was live. If we didn't get this done in time we would have failed, and we would have lost characters. We had an impact on the story and it fucking ruled.

Ingress is actually similar to this. You know, the game Niantic Labs made before Pokemon Go.
We were, and still are, a small community, even by a large margin when compared to the kinda disappointing Pokemon re-theme of our game. But for people who've never played, our game isn't a solo thing like PoGo is. It's a communal, organized, team effort to connect locations far apart from each other, and capture sections of the world under "control fields". We have made control fields so big they cross oceans and BEND WITH THE CURVATURE OF THE EARTH. And can you imagine how proud that small, dedicated group must have felt? Just a few people making an amazing thing happen.
    Not bigger, but better.

This may already have been investigated (and also may be buried), but have anyone investigated Adrian Hon?
We don't know 100% that his name could be Satoshi. That may have been a huge red herring (which is common in ARGs sadly). Plus, Adrian Hon has similar facial features (including a mole/bump on the left side of his face). Maybe makeup could have been used to cover it in the Billion to One photo.
There's a photo of him shaking hands with the cube founder. It doesn't hurt to investigate. He's now the CEO of a company called Six to Start.

When I heard the name "Satoshi", and how he cannot be found, I immediately thought of another mysterious person with that same name: "Satoshi Nakamoto", the guy who created Bitcoin.
Then another wild thought popped into my head: What if Satoshi Nakamoto (if that's his real name) was hired as a programmer by Perplex City to help create the puzzles? Perhaps, after the Perplex City project shut down, Satoshi thought his skills shouldn't go to waste and thus started working on Bitcoin?
I know that's an absolutely crazy theory, and it's based on very little, but I felt the need to put it out there in case anything comes of it.
Basically: If we find an ex-Perplex City designer/employee with the same (aged) features of the "Billion-to-One" puzzle card, we can identify once and for all who this guy is (and, as a bonus, figure out who made Bitcoin)!

Baka Senpie Hm ... or maybe that's what they *want* us to think!
In all seriousness, though, I just thought the connection was very peculiar. You could be right. However, if he's not an employee, than maybe he's a *relative* of an employee? Or a friend/business partner?

    • @admiral5960
      @admiral5960 7 ปีที่แล้ว +53

A direct quote by the creators of the puzzle "Satoshi has no connection with any employee of Mind Candy or Mind Candy’s business partners - pursuing them for information will be of no use."
So unfortunately it won't be that easy, but that's what makes it fun, tho slightly aggravating.
I'm wondering if anyone went around Kaysersberg, (the place where the photo was taken), and asked just door to door if anyone has seen him. As far as I can read people have just asked officials.

    • @SurprisinglyDynamicAnimeSideC
      @SurprisinglyDynamicAnimeSideC 7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

Baka Senpie Has someone confirmed he actually lives there? Could he have just been on vacation in Kayersberg? If it's the latter then things just got a lot more difficult.

No one ever said he lived there, just that the photo was taken there. I'm assuming that there are residence who might remember him, though it would be a long shot to just go around asking people and hoping that somebody remembers a Japanese man from 10 years ago.

    We are pretty sure:
Satoshi is Japanese, based on the text on the card.
There used to be a large Japanese community in the area, but that has dried up in more recent years.
Things we know Satoshi is not:
He is not the Cube Thief.
He is not working at Mind Candy presently.
He is not one of a thousand random "Satoshi"s who look just a tiny bit like him.
He is (probably) not working at the Kaysersberg tourism bureau.
    Satoshi may have:
    ...gone to Japan.
    ...been visiting France briefly.
...moved to the Alsace area years ago and is living there now.
...died last week. (though we certainly hope not!)
...moved to America seeking new riches.
...been a homeless man who was flown to France just to have his picture taken.
...no idea what any of this is about.
...a secret lair in Bombay, and another in Madrid.
From the will about the card.

In the States there was a book of 12 strange pictures and 12 poems called The Secret, by Byron Preiss. It came out in 1982, and was supposed to have 12 hidden treasures scattered around the US. Only 2 were ever found, one in 1984, and one in 2004.
The art in the book is a very 70s, but if you love a mystery, look into this a little, the treasures are still out there!

There was something similar to this a few years ago, with the tv show Gravity Falls. Alex Hirsch, the creator of the show, set up a scavenger hunt worldwide to find a statue of one of the characters. It was so fun to watch the clues being discovered on social media. There was a complication in the hunt so it was delayed, but eventually the statue was found and the pilot of the show was released. It was pretty interesting.

There was a similar concept in a children's book from 2004 called "A Treasure's Trove," which was about these bugs that are crystallized by some magic. The book contained hints to find the real world location of tokens which could be turned in to get the real "bug," which were made of precious metals and encrusted with jewels. All together the collection of about 12 or so was supposedly worth about 1 million dollars...

Like you said, it won’t have the exact same charm, but the charm is exactly what he misses.
