That’s the thing though, he was never truly free. Falling from grace the moment he stopped receiving help probably made him realize that and probably contributed to his descent into insanity.

The NPC I refer to is the one-armed cat guy outside Catty's house in Chapter 1. (I think he's referring to Asriel, but he says Douglas for some reason???)
I felt so bad for spamton:( he failed at everything in life despite having big dreams and he saw in you his last chance to be a big shot with your soul he didn't just want to achieve he wanted to LIVE!
The thing I liked about him (at least how I interpreted him) was that he never really came off as being evil or malicious. He just felt.. desperate. He was clearly misguided or misled in whatever the mysterious person on the phone told him, but he felt he had no choice but to grasp at any chances he could to become a "big shot" again; the one thing he felt would let him become his own person and truly live his own life as he wanted.
The fact that Spamton has so much attention, even for being side character, is just too amazing. I mean, he has such a tragic and sad backstory, that truly makes the player feel bad for miss judging "just another sale's man". At the start, you think he is just another of them. But in such a small period of time, Toby achieved a way to show how deep and sad his past became to be, just because the man was unlucky. i take off my hat for this character. But again, the whole chapter had a really great addition of new and unique characters!

Technically you could still take his disc along with you without ever putting it into the NEO robot. That way he'll be always with you and he might even see an alternate use in future chapters. Or he'll simply turn into part of a recipe for the blacksmith.
Best remix of [Change to be a] so far, i bet that Spamton would be incredibily honored to listen to your song. He would say something like this: "WOAH !!! Anyone else think were indirectly speaking to Gaster through the secret boss fights? I mean if Gaster broke them and according to Gasters Followers he's always "listening" , so my thought is if he's always listening, then he's also watching and might perhaps even be communicating through the secret bosses... thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
I love how the bass hits in this, and how even though quite a bit of liberty was taken with the remixing, it still actually resembles the original feel/intent of the piece. Can't tell you how many folks lose that in their attempts to do their thing with it.
