I remember being on the field in section 2 row 7 and in total heaven. Storm clouds rolling in... the band on fire... my 20th birthday... God I was in Heaven!! Thanks for posting!
Agreed. I still prefer the Lillywhite version to the one they actually released. For some weird reason since some time around 2008 they dropped the whole second stanza when they play live. I always said I would ask them why if I ever met them.
@@christinacdc1989 The ever changing lyrics in live performances are one of the reasons I have loved this band for so long. When I started trading tapes in the 90's the most popular ones had tons of Dave speak or versions where he changed the lyrics.
Epic, epic performance. I have heard most of the 2000 Grey Streets and this is one of my favorite versions. I still can't believe I get to see it performed though. Didn't think many people recorded vids back then!!
This was my very first concert I been to at Giants Stadium, I remember asking my girl at the time what song that was...love this version and the song since
it's even being played on a 6 string here, busted stuff, lillywhite, live are all done with a 12 string. rare to be on a 6, not to mention a very early recording too. excellent post. thanks!
i Love DMB how thy are now and how the alway were and will be, but here is one thing that i miss. I love Rashawn and Timmy but with them and even jeff's pumped up sax i feel they overpower alot of songs and lose alot of daves emotional lyrics and the bands all around signiture sound. Dont get me wrong I still love DMB and Big-Whiskey but a big portion of the bands mello-greatness was lost a couple years ago, RIP The Gru-Grux King
makes time stop. hello. i cant' stop listening. nothing else matters for the next 10 mins. I'm taken from my space and placed into another. enjoyment self enjoyment. for 10 mins.
this show was my first Dave show every. I was a senior in high school. The reason the lyrics are completely different here and this whole tour is because he didn't realease a studio version yet. So you know Dave, if he can improvise, he will. I will dearly miss Giants Stadium
i like how he likes to change thinks up a bit and use a little bit of different lyrics. i suggest to people to get the live trax where dmb plays at the riverbend center in cincinnati because it has alot of songs dmb dosent play anymore.
i just love how he has spare taylor acoustics in the back that it's like no big deal, here's another $2,000 guitar to start jammin with. taylors rock and i wish i was that lucky haha
Ha yeah this is back when he first started playing taylors, so he's playing some of the (relatively) cheaper models (700) now he plays the 900s which go for like $4 grand+ easily. This video is such a blast from the past - Stefan using wedges, butch, carter's old kit.... I love this band xfd
these versions of grey street are so much better than the one he has been playing since 04. the version off the lillywhite sessions especially has good lyrics. check it out
the longer a song is, the less numbers you can hit at a gig. my guess: they don't normally play the extended version, but rather the 2 verse version to fit in other songs in the line up for the crowd.
This was before the final version of the song appeared on Busted Stuff. It was when the Lillywhite Sessions were kicking around and they were "road testing" this, Sweet Up and Down, Bartender, JTR, etc. Saw them in Buffalo on this tour. Heard Grey Street for the first time that night and it changed my life.
meh this isn't really correct at all. actually they dropped the 3rd verse because DMB played on Letterman and had to truncate the song due to time constraints for TV. afterwards, Dave preferred the shorter version so it stuck.
Actually the answer was in fact correct. The studio version we know now, which is what you are talking about, was released in 2002. Then the 3rd verse was dropped on Letterman later that year in Dec. 02' to what we know of today. This version was when it still had unset lyrics and had the 3rd verse and extra chorus.
not quite mate, if you stuck 2 strings per knob then there is very little chance that they would retain the same tension therefore the paired effect of the 12 string is lost.
I understand that the alternate lyrics are cool but...Oww my ears.... "Thatsa my very goo frand Boyd Tinsely on the potatoe. Thanks everybody for coming tonight. Thanka very much, A bye-bye."
Can't believe it's been over 20 years! Time has been good to this one!!
This song, these lyrics, gosh they've helped me through some dark times.
grey street.. my favorite dmb song. too short, but so sweet... i love the extended version.

candace ismyname I was in the 2nd row, middle section. I was 13. Oh those were the days.
candace ismyname I'll never forget that storm.
@@gregoryb3793 wasn't the storm with two-step in the rain 6/11/01?
I really wish Dave didn’t cut this song in half, 2000 & 2001 were the best summers for this song. I’ve always said that.
candace ismyname those were the days . I really appreciate your memory.
I love this version of Grey Street. Ever since my wife died of cancer this past October, I feel like I live on Grey Street
My condolences 😪
😢😢😢😢
It's insane how much better and beautiful this song use to be compared to now.
i have not heard this in a while, at parts it seems like he forgot the words lol.
Agreed

@MsKatMoore I didn't even know this song but then I have survived cancer since 2008-2009 and I discovered this song and it touches me so very deeply.
Congrats to you I hope your doing well
Awe so sorry David 😞 thank God for a new day I miss Jesus
I'm still in love/love with this man

This band is nothing less than wonderful! I love DMB!
THANK YOU!
I've been looking for this version for years!!!

I love Tim on Guitar but when he tends to be a little much sometimes. This version so clean so crisp. Thanks for sharing!!
Thankful someone recorded this. Love this so much
i like how he does it different every time
this and bartender i can relate to right now. thank you dmb for the great music!!
Love Stefan’s autobot shirt!

This song is #10 on my weekly video countdown.
Best version I ever heard - thanks for sharing!
ah...the lillywhite version. nice to hear once in a while

this song is great, but this version is bomb.. love the difference in the lyrics
Awesome video! This song was SO much better when he freestyled some of the lyrics.
You can tell Carter was so proud of that ending...
im glad he does it on a 12 string now...sounds much better

Awesome, as always ;)

I like it better with the 12-string.
Nathan Relles exactly it has a better sound
i love boyd's violin piece at the end
Its hard to hear in other versions, almost as if it's drowned out. It's clear as day how good Boyd's piece is here.

I live on the corner of Grey Street, at the END of the world
Hello neighbor!
fav version. why did they get rid of 3rd/4th verse?? Such a great song though..

Atleast we got 3rd verse back
Grey Street needs a bit of 4:45 brought back into the song.
+SusquCyclist the song doesn't last that long anymore.
Added to the right (more info) from dmbalmanac....
How do you create this song? Amazing
not quite mate, if you stuck 2 strings per knob then there is very little chance that they would retain the same tension therefore the paired effect of the 12 string is lost.
FUCK YES!!!!!!!!!!!
not only that but they would always be touching and it would deaden the strings. not admirable.
this was played before they finished writing it...good stuff. doesnt have the live feeling as always, 12 string's missing baby!
RIP LEROI
so is this the longest version?
is this an IEM? sounds way too clear to be taper audio.
no 12-string?
Am I the only one who likes the finalized version better than this one? Probably cause Im used to the latter
This is the version from the LillyWhite Sessions

Better. Great song on album, but epic when they didn't actually have firm lyrics.

lol, dave is a string breaking fool.
Too bad you can' hear the crowd freaking out in the BG

Great version ! Please check out my cover of this song on my page ! let me know what ya think ! thanks so much guys !!!
my first thumbs down... odd, since i was merely making an observation. no worries mate
Is the whole show posted up somewhere ?
