    Hey Yogev , Great video mang! The visual rep of the groupings within the hieroglyph are awesome :-) The analysis is pretty spot on too! This tune is def a big variation on theme, which we're big on. I personally don't really take tempo changes into account, it's more incidental, Just expanding or contracting groupings giving the feeling of tempo shifts. this tune is just 16th note based, which is why its an "easy one" :-). The time sigs are a different story :-) Thanks for taking the time man! I owe u a beer!

      I'm not big into Meshuggah... How exactly is that so?

    • @HoxVox
      @HoxVox 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@DuffyLONER64 he meant Car Bombs' savage, hot and SOMEHOW* baroquely complex approach to the matter opposed to the pure, glacial and minimalist complex approach by Meshuggah
      *SOMEHOW because Car Bomb don't play useless notes motivated by a self indulgent ear-pleasing attitude, which was a defect by many baroque classical musicians, but all the same they sound (they are, and this video is a proof) more articulated than Meshuggah.

    • @HoxVox
      @HoxVox 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@DuffyLONER64 cutting it short, it's like Meshuggah want you to understand and reflect about how music can expand wider through polyrhythm, feeding (AWESOME) sketches of that, while Car Bomb want you to experience it by painting the best faithful picture of it they can. Exactly. Meshuggah is rigidly structured. They never, ever, deviate from 4/4.
      Car Bomb is open-ended. They swing between tempos and time signatures. But one thing they have in common with Meshuggah is a good sense of how to develop small ideas into a cohesive whole.

    • @TheSquareOnes
      @TheSquareOnes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      They also change note rates a lot, and not just to the "normal" tuplets like 5s and 7s. Metal Music Theory has some really amazing transcription videos that I'd recommend everyone check out, really helps put into perspective just how insane some of Car Bomb's riffs are. I've never heard a band bend time quite as wildly as they do.

    Car Bomb was the first Band I heard first live on a concert without knowing them and not wanting them to stop. 10:00 Yes. Yes and yes. Your analysis, both visual and verbal are absolute honey for the soul! I've never really given car bomb much time, but this video has changed that in terms of intention - I have a lot of appreciation for bands who explore these possibilities and rhythmic events, even if I can't spend as much time as I might wish I could listening to it (it's somewhat exhausting when musically you feel obliged to accept the challenge of understanding it). And that's where the comment comes full circle - glorious to see the puzzle unfurl.
    Just been to watch some of their live clips, the fact that their presentation is very much a tough guy hardcore band, and yet the complexity of what they do is there, this is a very satisfying case of not judging books by their covers or having a pre-conceived or judgemental bias/idea that there's not much intelligence in that scene...

    • @YogevGabay
      @YogevGabay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Man I couldn't agree more.
      Also, I have a hard time just "listening" to music without paying attention to what's going on, which is why it took me a while to get into these guys. I just didn't have the time to actually sit and spend some hours actively listening to their stuff till now and I'm super happy I finally did!

    I had the chance to hang out with these guys after a show a number of years ago. It was the farewell tour for Dillinger when they stopped in Atlanta ( don't remember the venue ) and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had speaking to a touring band. They are down to earth and extremely talented. I asked about the title of their second album and was told that it was a simple saw wave. I always just called it W's. I got this album signed and totally missed the Dillinger set because my friends and I were talking to these dudes. This is by far my favorite modern metal group, and cant wait to hear their next album!

    14:48 - Your statement is exactly how Ive come to feel about Car Bomb, particularly in the past half an year, as I finally was in the mood for the abrasiveness of "w^w^^w^w". and now that record has become basically medicine for me - I mean, nothing sounds as unhinged, raw, brutal, heavy, technical, broken, groovy, fast, frenetic, etc. as this record to my ears is something truly unique.

    Uh yeah!
    and what an analysis. I was not expecting less from you, Yogev.
    Will wait for the next ones...
    And then, after that, please please please, do think about making Kōenji Hyakkei.

    • @YogevGabay
      @YogevGabay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh are they that crazy Japanese band ?

    • @milanimilani
      @milanimilani 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YogevGabay You can say "crazy" again (thought there are a lot of Japanese artists that fit perfectly in that word - just remember Merzbow, Otomo Yoshihide, Melt Banana...).
      But check this !!!
      th-cam.com/video/LHDOALyDOO8/w-d-xo.html
      From that very beginning, you will surely understand that you have here a lot of material for your next video! ah ah
      Additionally, just look what they do at 4:30 (:^O)
      Aesthetically speaking, I know nothing like this: it's jazzy, operatic, lyrical, sounds like progressive rock (in fact, they are supposed to be RIO or zeuhl, and the drummer was in Ruins before), and somehow fiicking heavy (look at that sax solo in the song "Grahbem Jorgazz", at 1:29) thought there is almost no distortion used.
      To be perfectly honest with you, it took me some time to get my ears used to and, let's say, accepting this specific sonority. After I accepted that they really sound like this and began to be familiar with the general sounding, I founded them to be absolutely genius... and totally on the subject of your channel. They are, for me, along with Tigran, Car Bomb and Meshuggah, the best demonstration of how a polyrhythmic structure is not just a pleasure of nerdy musicians who like it complex because they like it complex ; it actually produce very beautiful things to ear.
      I will let two more suggestions of songs of Kōenji Hyakkei for you to dig:
      - "Fettim Paillu": maybe the more musique de chambre/operatic of their songs, expect some additional difficulty to digest this. The operatic twist makes it for an even more dramatical and tense song. And men, it's heavy (look at what they do from 2:58, pfff). After they kind of destroy everything, they repeat the long intro but wait! what's happening on the background from 6:52? (8^O)
      th-cam.com/video/UbIPzVzvnqQ/w-d-xo.html
      - "Djebelaqui Zomm": my favorite. Super tense and heavy the entire song. Look the beauty of that session between 0:48-1:10...
      th-cam.com/video/uf6FnmFgelk/w-d-xo.html
      I am a huge fan of your videos and your method. Keep doing it!!
