0-18 for me. Maybe I'm biased. I played an old one recently and I fell in love with it immediately. Listening to this I can hear why I loved it so much.
I've played an 0 once loved it. Played a 00-18 in California and again in Utah, both times one of my favorites. In this video I have to concur the 0-18 is my favorite. If only it had the colors of the ceo7 or a good 1935 burst lol.
Thanks for doing this update; I’m sure that many of us were curious as to how you were getting along w/ your ceo. I bought mine based on your initial review!! Love it!
Hey Justin - Glad you're enjoying your ceo too! I really can't say enough about this guitar - I was a little hesitant with the v-neck at first, but it continues to grow on me. Since I brought it home from Music Villa, this has been my go to guitar whenever I have a few moments to play, and in these work from home days, it's routinely in my lap in between emails and zoom meetings!
All sounds great. 00-28 was my pick, then CEO, 811, L-00, 0-18. 00 is by far my favorite size. Small and easy to hug yet can be loud without having to dig in.
great vid. Very helpful for my quest to replace my current small body guitar. AND...most important - - affirmation for my enjoying the dead strings. I play my strings until they won't hold tune anymore. I play with tunes and tones specific for the vibrant new strings. As they dull I have other styles and maybe plug in now and then. Dead is to bang out my groove practicing and percussive roots-style music. Really work on chocking out the tone and palm muting....somehow brings out the best of my current small body
The CEO-7 is a very special guitar. Very happy to see they made some more of them. I’ve played a few and can’t recommend them enough. If I played more I’d buy one in a heartbeat.
@@juana1483 I haven’t played a 000-28 but it depends on what sound you want. Both beautiful guitars certainly a little more volume from the 000-28 but man I prefer the darker CEO-7.
I’ve been stringing my CEO-7 with retros for a couple years now. I’m really happy with them. I’ve even tried the liquid metal bridge pins, how ever I prefer the ebony pins.
I still have my Martin 0-42 sunburst that I bought off the Music Villa web site in 2013. A great small body guitar. I have acquired 8 vintage 0-18's 1923, 1927, 1939,, 1943, 1949, 1951, 1952, 1968 They all sound different. All great. And I have a 14 fret custom shop Martin 0-45 Alpine spruce/Madagascar (TME) and a 1931 0-21 (this one everybody loves). I guess I like 0's. I have several other Martin guitars (24 total) such as a 14 fret 00-45 (Music Villa 2013), 1946 00-18 and a great sounding OM-42. No big D guitars.
(I haven't yet played one yet, but) the CEO 7 was whole; balanced; - an 'ahh' sound...the rest were tinny and brash. You're right gentlemen it's not "a comparison".
They all had the spice but the CEO was the Mahogany Hammer, champion SB of the Day and the 00-28 a close second. If he endorses the S1 Pro then that's enough for me!
Great video, I have a HD-28 and a D-18 . I craving a smaller body style to complete my Trio. The Taylor 811e looks so much bigger. For my taste I would rule out the 018 but it would be hard to choose between the others.
I think listening back to the timestamps I prefer the 0-18 It's not the loudest guitar but like the guild m20 they had in stock locally (which I surprisingly preferred over it /)*(\ just a bit 😆 that particular day) it's got something special going for it. I currently own an m20 but would be happy with either once the spruce opens up for sure.
Hey Quinton, I'd love to know your entire electronics setup. I caught K & K under the bridge. What mic did you use in the sound hole ( and other info would be great!) Thanks so much. I really enjoy y'all's videos.
Hi Tommy - sorry for the slow response here - circling back and saw your question - it's a K&K system all around - the Trinity Pro System - www.kksound.com/trinity
I am so glad you are talking about the amplification and hope you will do more of that in the future. I know you guys go out and play gigs, so I trust what you say. I have the no-frills K & K on a couple of guitars. It is very reliable, puts out a lot of signal, but sounds a bit quacky. I sometimes run it through a Fishman Aura and that helps, but I'm wondering if there are other options.
Hi Dan - does your setup have the condenser mic too? With the setup I have, if I dial the mic all the way down so that it's just the bridge plate transducers, I can virtually eliminate any risk of feedback, but the guitar sounds pretty lifeless - almost like a telecaster. Just a little condenser mic in the mix transforms it back into a genuine acoustic sound (at least to my ears). If you don't have the condenser, I wonder if that's something that might be added? (honestly don't know . . .)
@@quintonking9960 Hi Quinton. No, I do not have the condenser mic. I didn't realize that it was an option until I saw your video. I'm playing just from bridge plate transducers, which is great because I get a strong signal and don't have feedback issues, but now I"m trying to tweak the tone and I'm dealing with the issue that you described. I had a condenser mic on a previous pickup (a Fishman) and really liked it, so now I'm thinking that my best bet is to upgrade from my current K & K to the one you have. Thanks for the advice, and I hope you'll keep sharing your thoughts about what does and does not work when you're out playing gigs.
Regarding amplification, I recently purchased a Fishman Loudbox Performer. I've got around 14 acoustic guitars that have electronics/pick-ups (LR Baggs stage pro element, LR Baggs M1 Active soundhole, Fishman Presys, Fishman Classic 4T, Fishman MX1, Taylor ES2, and others). I've been incredibly impressed with the sound quality, EQ, multiple effects, and other features of the Fishman Loudbox amp. I'm not sure I can accurately describe how well it represents each of my guitars, but I will say the amp is definitely worth checking out! It has a separate knob for the tweeter, so I can turn it all the way off or even louder than normal. The amp handles enough bass that my acoustic baritone guitar sounds really beautiful through its speakers.. as well, it's impressive to use one of the channels for vocals (separate control over effects and EQ, Phantom power, etc). Both channels have a phase button and an anti-feedback knob.. I've surprisingly been able to crank the volume to about 65-70% and use a nice condenser microphone while playing acoustics with little to no feedback issues, and be about 10ft away from the front of the amp!
Loved the video! Comparisons are great! I am a sucker for spruce and mohogany. It just sounds warmer even if doesnt have as much projection. Enough with the dead strings! Quentin brings life into them! Still would like to know uf Quentin has any albums out there.....
I like the CEO best. These are all great fingerpicking guitars. But the CEO seems as if it would be the most versatile. I have a cheap Art & Lutherie parlor guitar for noodling on a new song or to take to the beach. It has a nice coffee & cream, bluesy tone, but it's sure not for strumming. Nice comparo!
My Martin O-18 I had my luthier changed the bleached bone nut and saddle and ebony wood bridge pins. Installed the unbleached cow bone nut and fossil walrus ivory saddle and fossil walrus jawbone bridge pins. The tonal palette is awesome, clarity, sustain, fatter trebles, better harmonics and the colours and flavors of each note on fretboard are more superb. I am so glad that I had my luthier make the changes. When strumming heavy it does not bottom out. And fingerstyle is outstanding! Someone ask is that a Martin 0-42 custom? I said no just made a few changes on 0-18 for the better. I also had the LR Baggs Anthem installed.
Would love a comparison between the CEO-7 and a Martin 0018. Both mahogany back and sides but I’m assuming the necks are very different. Not sure about the scale lengths.
I’ve watched this episode several times. To my ear, the 00-28 is #1, the CEO-7 is #2 (but only because of the dead strings). I’ve since bought a CEO-7 and it blows all the others away. I’d love to see a comparison of the CEO-7, the Gibson LG-2 (50’s edition), and the Martin 00-28. If using Quinton’s CEO-7, change the strings first.
Tie for the CEO-7 & 00-28. Not sure why new strings weren't on the CEO-7 as it's harder to judge. Gibson was great and I'm still on the hunt for a Taylor that I'd trade for either my Larrivee or OM-21. CEO-7 vs Yairi vs Larrivee vs Gibson would be interesting.
On this video more than any other I recall, I can really hear the differences in the house sound of Martin, Taylor, and Gibson. That and CEO-7 had really dead strings.
00-28 sounded amazing but my preferred sound is Hog. The other guitars were cool too but that thinner brighter projection isn’t my style. Spruce on ‘hog please.
I love the sound of the CEO-7, but my hand just can’t get along with the neck carve on it. Martin, if you’re feeling unusually generous, I’d gladly take a CEO-7 with a different neck profile!
If you plan to own just ONE guitar, the CEO-7 is perfect. Astounding guitar. If you plan to own MORE than one guitar, then I wouldn't buy it. It's a five-stars all-rounder, but doesnt't have the bark of a Gibson L-00 (or a clone) if you wanna play the blues, doesn't have the perfection of a 00-18 if you are more into folk, and for singing or playing in a band you want more body (and go to a J-45). I personally love have more guitars. So, when the moment will come when I'll buy a spruce/mahogany 00, I don't think I would buy a CEO-7, still loving and craving it, because is a real beauty. Was I able to explain myself?
I just replayed my vid playing y singing (in drop D tuning)my GPC all ovangkol solid wood vs Guild D20 y capoing themwith Schubb y G7th(the newest); the weight of the capo are different y they outputted some very faint or subtle differences (I am always using high end earphones Bose Quiet Comfort 3 y or iPhone pro max…so) ; CE07 is to me for its size impresses me…I may get this or the OM21…00028 is blingy though but closer to OM 22…om; I factor a lot things in but still it’s all relative y personal…I loved played in elixirs mediums y daddario bronze nickel alloy y Santa Cruz y Savarez( for my classical guitar rosewood Sitka lol)
Can I get the whole box of chocolates? I mean guitars? I have a used CEO-7 and Music Villa Custom Shop Martin 00-28 12 fret. They both sound great for singing different songs. The 00-28 would be my first choice but the Taylor GT 811e is really a nice sound. I traded a Gibson L-00 Deluxe because it sounds like a Gibson and my voice changed. Things to note: neck scale is a bit different on each and neck profile also differs. Another option is strings, dead or otherwise. So to my earphones, first 00-28, CEO-7, Taylor 811e, Gibson L-00 Deluxe and 0-18. Or any you're giving away. Thanks Quinton and Paul.
Just a thought and not a criticism. Quinton's hands are so big the 'neck shape' does not make it into the discussion.(unfortunately) Those with moderate size hands, neck shape matters in the purchase decision.

No matter what you do, you’ll never convince me there’s a better small-bodied L-00 style guitar than the CEO-7.
I can’t wait to get my CEO 7 home and put my usual 7 dollar strings on it 😂
0-18.
Good video by gad I hate it when Quinton speaks over the other interrupting. Please stop. Takes away from what you are presenting.
I think the dead strings really sound good on small body guitars.
Their mic sucks imo mine earphones could be too iPhone max earphones huh(: the CEO is okay for a small guitar but the 00028 is my guitar
CEO-7 the the 00-28
Lovely guitar. The KK contact pickup sounds FAR, FAR, FAR better than ANY piezo pickup. Rather than having 'dead' strings, why not put on a set of D'Addario Flat Tops, or D'Addario Half-Rounds, or D'Addario Chromes..?
CEO wins! Leave the dead strings on
All have their unique sound...none bad...I'm happy to be gifted the loser, OK?
Gibson: sound of the cardboard since 100 years
They test more of their cords vocal cords
Got to be an electronic wizz to play "normal"guitar, I'm outa here geezers, clearly not for me
John's guitar stuff does great reviews 👍
L00 is best by a mile. the Martins just sound like theyre doing a weak impression of their older brothers 000/OM. And I'm a Martin guy (D28, OMJM) but my next guitar is gonna be an L00. It's a beautiful sounding parlour guitar in its own right that's not trying to be something it's not.
Martin is better ! 00-28 best !
