There is a bike builder named "Chapman" who still silver brazes bikes together by hand.. He has a little shop where he does everything, by himself.. On his locker in the back ground, there are many stickers... But I noticed one sticker immediately!!! It was a huge shield.. And it said "S&M" S&M for life S&M everywhere! I live my life by the chrome... "A "4130" Chrome Molly at a time"
S&M are probably the only people making USA made bike stuff these days. Plenty of street riding and skateparks here in my city, even some dirt jumps in the suburbs, so of course I'm looking at S&M for a future setup.
@@ArrKoKo Their not the only one but probably the biggest producer of American made bikes. Most of the other American made stuff are big bikes and also make very good stuff. ELF,Gary and Craig Turner just to name a couple but their are many more.
I remember years (decades now) when this man handed me my dirtbike frame as a newly minted factory rider. My God Chris you got old. But then I took a look in the mirror and realized that I did as well.
Even the stickers are US made, never knew this. S&M doing excellent work and supporting US jobs, events, groups, and legendary guys like Doyle. Also building unique frames rather than just catalogue parts like every other brand. We also get a viewing into the workshop too! I wish the UK could stick something out like in bmx, we have Hope Tech here, but it's not on the level of awesome S&M is.
@@substrata4130 Nice one, and great to see. Though i guess his jig is fairly fixed as little customisation available, but the price is impressively low, so i guess that's why.
Been wanting to get back into bmx for a while now...38 years or so... wish i knew how to put one of these together as well as all the parts I would need. Probably end up with a complete for now. But these are cool!
I want that bike so bad lol. All the little details. And I am an old schooler. Pretty sure I had an original mad dog diirt bike back in the 90s. And seeing disc brakes on a BMX bike is new to me. I don't even run brakes because standard brakes are a full time job. I've almost never been able to have a locking set of brakes. Maybe this is the answer. But honestly I think riding brakeless just makes you ride with more balance and commit to things sooner. Your shoes don't always last too long tho lol.
What rear Profile hub are you using? I am trying to build this up, I just bought the hub. But it’s a 16 cog? That can’t be right. Your sprocket doesn’t look bigger than 28, maybe 30. Please help
Started from the bottom now there here.. There is a fine line behind genius and insanity... And I guess, Chris "Mad Dog" M.. Was a genius, and not insane, When he started this gangster Shit! Back in.. "God...!!" Well I started riding in 1994.. And S&M already was 44 something... So.. . . S&M for life! Awesome.. I only seen one of those in my life And it was yellow with red Mad Dog stickers! Till the head tube came off.. And the Dirt bike frame came out.. Then It was all history after that.. . . There was a time we used to send out bike frames back to S&M when they cracked.. Because S&M offered a lifetime warranty.. So I got a new dirt bike.. For a $100 back in 96.. . Might mean nothing to this new generation.. But back then.. It was a big deal.. Like John Holmes was a big deal.. When things were heavy ... As Fuck... Love it!
@@byc1013 I get it, I've had them on the DJ and MTB for years now, but I'm also not a pro rider. Once setup right the first time, unless you crash and bend a rotor, the only time you should have to fuck with it again is when you're changing those paper thin pads. Other than that, they're awesome, work better than any rim brake I've ever owned and until the pad gets shit embedded in them, don't sound like you stepped on a cat every time you use them. For race bikes and trails, they should be standard equipment, in my opinion. Hell, even the mechanical disk brakes work well, and no hydro to deal with. Oh, and you can fit the wider tyres easier with disk.
Your company probably thinks you're overpaid too and would like to outsource your labour to migrants to work for less. Nobody wants to pay more, but with S&M you're paying to provide jobs to US citizens, ones that also support other local jobs like the fabricators, and then other local business for lunch etc. You'd also be giving money to support events and groups, and allowing unique frames to be made instead of catalogue flavour of the month.

If your gonna spend big money on a BMX bike by an American hand made S&M. You won't be disappointed.
And they stand behind their products🤙🏽

The man, the myth, the legend, the Grand Pappy a dirt jumping himself.
Balls with the build mean as !!!
That Mad Dog is sick! Reminds me of the 1996 Challenger that I had :) .
Hell, yea! I just got a fresh Hucker build but I'm still tempted to get a new Mad Dog for the disc brake.

Challenger flashback here to, love it!
That's a nice looking bike! Not a fan of disc brakes but those seem much better because of the smaller disc.
Steve seems like a cool boss. Really hands on with his employees making sure everything is running smooth without being a dick about it.
Who's Steve?

I want to have a custom frame made anyone know the starting price?
Here in Indiana would get a lot more money for that scrap metal than 10 bucks

My dream to own a s&m been riding bikes since 1996, im poor though live check by check, some day hopefully ill own one 😢
I'm diggin the disk brakes..
they are great until they are not. Misalignment, twisted rotors. brake rub. bleeding the hydro brakes. such a mission
