Just reading James Holland’s book ‘Burma ‘44’. What a brutal campaign and often overlooked. Absolute respect to the many who fought and died there.

My uncle Major Dimi Cassimati was a Greek man in the 1/1 Punjab regiment of the 5th Indian Division, who he told me, was involved in the relief of Kohima and the march to Mandalay through Burma. He also told me he ferried very large number of tanks to the Russians through Iran after being withdrawn from the North African campaign.

Don't forget Rangoon. My mate was there, part of the forgotten 14th army. At his funeral I made sure he was remembered

Yes, my eyebrows were raised by this comment as well. 2nd Division sent out on 'Empress of Canada' 1942, out there until 1945. No home leave. My mother nearly died with worry.

Scared of Netaji 's Success Britishers established Laore Mint ( in 1942 ) on an Emergency basis.Lahore
Mint was established by the British in 1943 ( Mint Mark "L" ). The
British feared that the Azad Hind Fauj ( INA )under Netaji Subhash
Chander Bose and the Japanese would liberate Calcutta and the Calcutta
Mint may come under " Arzi Hukumat - Azad Hind " ( Provisional
Government of Free India ) . So a mint was put up in a " safer " Lahore

    On recapturing
Singapore in 1945 , Mountbatten blew up ,by putting explosives , the
Azad Hind War Memorial in Singapore ( like ISIS blowing up Al Nuri
Mosque in Mosul ).Nehru made no attempt to rebuild Azad Hind War Memorial in Free India.Let us Rebuild now , at a suitable place, Azad Hind War Memorial .We wish Volunteers take up this Project. We will put the names of all Azad Hind Fauj soldiers.Jai Hind--------------------------------------What an irony ?In 1979 , Mountbatten himself was blown up by explosives.-----------------------------------Netaji Message while paying tributes to the martyrs of INA“The
future generations of Indians who will be born, not as slaves but as
free men, because of your colossal sacrifice, will bless your names and
proudly proclaim to the world that you, their forbears, fought and
suffered reverses in the battle of Manipur, Assam and Burma. But through
temporary failure you paved the way to ultimate success and glory.
