A much easier technique: instead of the hassle of removing popcorn texture I have covered it with random 1x4, 1x6 and 1x8 planks. The wood can be stained or painted. To compensate for wood shrinking and gapping I first covered the ceiling with a black cloth (or paint the p[opcorn black) so the gaps are dark.
Yes! Good idea! We did consider that! Just decided we wanted the very simple finish of smooth drywall - but YES wood to cover is a great idea! Thanks so much for sharing!!!
I’ve been doing drywall for over 10 years i have my own buisness for 8 of those years and I can assure you you scraping the ceilings is mot going to cut the cost in half.
can you give us an update on what texture youve gone with? Most people don't realize smooth cost more $$ then texture. It take someone skilled to achieve level 5 finish. Texture is used to hide imperfections.
If you are budget conscious I'm not sure why you want a flat finish texture. It can be 3 times more expensive or more depending on how true the ceiling or wall is.
Smooth is definitely more expensive! IN our case, the ceilings were in really good shape, so upgrading to smooth was not that much more. Since Joey had done all the demo work, we saved there. It's really a matter of what's important and a priority in the design. The ceiling in the living room is such a big part of the room, and there's a LOT of natural light coming in, which would have shown the texture even more. In the bedrooms, the ceilings are low, so again -- going with smooth was our hope. Thanks for being here, and totally understand where you're coming from! As you know remodels are compromises here and there -- we'll probably wait a bit longer to build our kitchen with the small upgrade for the ceilings. but all in time, it will be finished! : )
Did the same thing with my ceilings. Go smooth. You won't regret it. People will be so amazed by your ceilings, they won't notice the walls.
Wondering why decided to sand, instead of wet and scrape.....any reason, or just wanted to do this way?
I removed a popcorn ceiling in a hallway once, I was painting the ceiling and a large section of popcorn rolled up onto the roller !
That home renovation aged you girl
Can you please share the model and type of sandpaper. Thank you
Festool makes the disc sandpaper with holes i between for suction. Grit 80
Smooth for sure. Save yourself the work of adding texture and then removing it. It’ll look nice too if the ceiling is different from the walls.
What grit sand paper did you use?

I think one could afford to hire out for the cost of the cheapest festool tool let alone that and a vacuum... That's a mighty job though
Smooth ceiling for sure. Orange peel can look good on walls if ceiling is smooth
Definately smooth. Who needs orange peel cellulite LOL 😂
Thanks for the kiss Sunny 💕
hahaaha cellulite is right!!! this is hilaroius
Easier to wet the ceiling and scrape the popcorn ceiling off. MUCH easier.
This is deff not the way to remove this
I hate "popcorn ceiling" with a passion! 😑
Needs a respirator that surgical mask isn’t doing much.
