- This video demonstrates how to remove and replace all of the trunk interior carpeting. As they apply to my 2002 540i, these are the required parts. Please note that yours may vary, and that you should cross-reference them against your VIN on RealOEM: www.realoem.com

Ryan, I watch every video you make, no matter what it is about. You are a very fine teacher and I always learn something that I can apply to taking care of my own 540i. I’m glad that posting periodic videos is still a priority for you.
Thanks so much for this comment! Ideally I aim to post at least one video a month, but I've found that the shop gets slammed from Spring-Fall which really cuts down on available time. Plenty of content still to come!
Ryan, you are a time machine! You took us back to the period of 1997-2003. Excellent idea of restoration, it gives extra value to the car. I wish i could afford the cost, mine 525i needs this.
Thanks for your comment! My ultimate goal is to see, smell, and feel an E39 from 1997-2003, and each job like this gets me a touch closer!
“So if you’re insane like I am and you want to spend a bunch of time and money making your trunk so perfect you can’t use it…” I literally cannot stop laughing! And don’t worry, you’re definitely not alone in your automotive OCD… brilliant video, as always.
Thanks so much!
Hi Sir. Thank you for such a resourceful channel. A library in my opinion, deserving of a reference shelve in the automotive library....have two of these E39's, and am not lost restoring the second one...success with the first 👌👏👏...thanks to your tutorials!
Please share the supplier's of the boot carpet. Would.like to order some as well.

Hi Ryan. Found your post on where to order. No need to send. Thank you 😊!
Ryan hi from sunny Kazakhstan, I use google translator sorry. I drive the e39 528i. I love my car. I try to make it better, I invest a lot of money, because Kazakhstan has a different salary and standard of living than in USA. some of the spare parts that you change are very appreciated here in Kazakhstan, even used ones, because you often have to install used, not new spare parts. In the USA, you can afford to buy new spare parts and it's cool and look at it like drinking divine nectar! Thanks for your videos! someday I will have new spare parts in my BMW)
Thank you for your comment and support! I imagine there are not a lot of E39s on the roads in Kazakhstan? Keep up the good work.
Great video Ryan…as always, THANK YOU!!
Great video its videos like this why ive been subscribed for years now and watch everyone i also have ocd my self and attention to detail is so important but looking forward to next video
Thanks for watching and for your comment!
great job as always! I can't wait for you guys to restore my 2001 E38 M-Sport
Hey I am doing this project on my car this month! So very useful Ryan!
I love your channel man. Really helped me out restoring my toledo blue 530i/5 💪🫡
You are real E39 Fan ❤
What a riot! Lots of fun and very informative.
Very nice! Thanks for posting this.
Nice job bro.🎉❤
I've got 2003 , 540 i only 48 k miles no accident no paint , for sale in libya.
I’m dreaming of sending my 540 to you guys for a restoration!
Feel free to make your dream a reality at any time :D
Exactly what I need
Thank you
Again, Loved it.
Did you get the paint and manure, haha! Caught me off guard there for a minute, LOL.
I appreciate you showing the measurements on the white board of the holes to cut, my OCD appreciates it and you.
Is this the 540 you restored a year or so ago? It was outside and full of leaves/pine needles, if I remember correctly. If so, it looks great.
Thanks Ryan and cheers!
Yes, this is that 540i! I've been continuing restoration work since that video was posted and need to get an update video out. I've fallen in love with the car and date I say it... prefer it to my M5 a lot of the time.
Still Mad as a box of frogs I see! 😂
That's amazing
Great video! Maybe you'll start releasing videos more than once a month?)
I would LOVE to, but unfortunately my time is 100% consumed in managing the shop and our many ongoing projects.
Have you made a seat twist repair video before?
Hmm probably not, that's something we've mastered here at the shop over the past few years though.
Still waiting for timing chain DIY!
While I'd love to make one, it's just not in the cards right now. Filming cuts job efficiency back to about 25%.
@ think of it as a “long term investment”. The ROI I bet in less than a year
@@TakesTalent I don't have any sort of tangible ROI on this DIYs, sadly.
@@E39Source it’d still be a great asset for the channel, considering there isn’t a decent tutorial on it in the market.
Ryan, what's your lead time for new customers? Also do you support only e39s or do you support e46 and e38 as well?
Hi there! Our service lead time depends on the services requested. Generally speaking, we're ~2-4 week out right now. We are proud to service for the E39, E38, E46, E53, E60, E9x, and various other BMW models from the 1990s-2010s.
Hi, where did u get that trunk net? really like that one too :)
It's a Genuine BMW part sold nearly anywhere, but I got mine here: tinyurl.com/4s9zj8k7
Where do you get the cargo net?
The net is available here: tinyurl.com/ae2v3wdp
@E39Source Thank-you very much
May have missed it but did you catch the prod date on any of those parts? Wondering if they’re recent or still just going through what’s left from production. My new M5 grilles from FCP were surprisingly 2003 production so seems there’s a lot of production era parts out there still.
Many of these items didn't have production dates that I could find on them, but I got the idea based off of the packaging and stickers that these were mostly original production-era parts. I wouldn't expect BMW to ever manufacture any of these items again.
@@E39Source hey Ryan, I am looking to refresh the trunk in my 2000 M5 which is in rough shape. I went at my local BMW dealership with all the part numbers for the carpeting but I was told they were all NLA and nothing was left in stock anywhere. May I ask you where have you guys managed to find this stuff? I am based in the EU where, quite ironically too I'd say, availability for parts looks to be much scarcer than over the pond. Boy if we had ECS, Bimmerworld and their likes over here.
@@pincophr1393 The M5 trunk carpet trims are different from the 540i. In fact, I think every piece minus the trunk lid interior and DSP box cover are different. I'd let them check their system for the correct numbers. I purchased a new trunk interior set for my M5 as well (about 3 months ago) and had no problem sourcing the parts.
@@E39Source I went in there with all the correct part numbers for my car. I had entered my VIN in ReaOEM to get them. But I was told what I was told. That's why I asked if you had a particular source because you seem to find everything for these cars.
@@pincophr1393 I find it hard to believe that I received the last available parts for each piece, but it's possible. You're certain you didn't select the part numbers for the Alcantara trunk interior?
Wait, you can still find a brand new/unused trunk carpeting for a 22 years old car?? How insane!!
Just completed E39 servotronic steering rack rebuild. There's no info out there on it. You're on your own. It gave me nightmares. And PTSD.
I've never had to repair one, or seen an E39 I6 rack leak for that matter. Nice work!
Wow. Some people really love thes cars. Theyre practically worthless in Washington state. Too much work for anyone to fix. 1-2k car.EWS glitch of Vanos goes out and the cars scrapped.
Sound not great Ryan
Audio quality? Seems good on my end..
@E39Source maybe my crappy earphones ....great video Ryan as always great info and technique
Ryan... as ECS Tuning says N/A for 51478159475, 51478159476, 51478159474, 51478211952, and 61136907370 who did you use to order these from Europe?? My M5 trunk does need a refresh... perfect timing for the video! Great job.
PS: You can use the scissor jack to hold the DSP up while you position it. I screwed a 18"x12" piece pf plywood to the jack to better support the DSP... worked great... used a cordless drill to run the jack up and down as needed.
ECS Tuning's NLA flag is often incorrect. I ordered the parts through my local BMW dealership and received all of them within 21 days. I imagine you can contact ECS and ask them to update (correct) the status for these parts.
I could have used something to hold it, but I'd rather just wrestle with it for a few minutes.
Great job !
What makes the M5 trunk mats different between EU and US versions ?
@@Targalife European E39s had right oddments doors with a small plastic storage cubby which changed the footprint of the trunk floor.
