Good for smashing spiders and other worst fears. Maybe it’s just your play style but don’t see you use it a ton. Will def come in handy for DS3.
I deal with arachnophobia and played through Dark Souls 2. This was absolutely my experience. Moments of panicked bravery interlaced by times where I just had to hide in a room and breathe. I didn't know about the torch trick when I made my run. Never again. 36:18 Yeah bro...yeah. Me too. *hugs*
Awesome job, might wanna revisit shaded woods, unfreeze the statue near the bonfire (I think) gets the key for the door underground, then it's occupant moves to the room with all the children. There's also a boss in doors of pharos.
Sorry for the late post! I’ve been extremely busy. Glad to see your post after a very long and miserable day :) , a very welcome site. Glad your still liking DS2 , hope your well
Lmao @ the first mimic, was wondering which would be your first one. The game really tries to hide them for a while unlike DS1. Tip, you can smack them to test, just like in DS1. Just don’t hit wooden chests more than once if it’s not a mimic as you’ll destroy the chest and the item inside if you hit it too much. Great job dealing with the cove, and the spiders especially. Also idk if anyone told you about it before but good job figuring out that they don’t bother you when you have a torch, makes the area so much less stressful! That weird statue room next to the quicksand sarlac pit is where a certain NPC will live once you rescue them btw, worth checking out when that happens.
Im also super arachnophobic but its weird because like… I faced Rom just fine, I faced Quelaag just fine, but Freja fucked me up. I was paralyzed this entire area, I had to get into a call with a friend to get through it 😂
I'd recommend going back to the shaded woods and using a branch on that statue of a lion warrior across the gap from the bonfire before Najjka. You'll get a useful item that you should use immediately, then you can go back to bright stone and explore more.
@@matiasgago I am 100% sure there were so many others who had the same anticipation for that Spider moment in Nightmare of Mensis (Bloodborne) just like me. The big one in particular. So gross, hairy, and FAST lol.

Silvercat ring reduces damage from falling. All falling (until it gives you the special auto-kill screen). It's not just for getting into the gutter. It helps all the time lowering damage from falls. Gravity is extra-brutal in this game. Some sort of fall damage reduction equipment is extremely recommended.
@@matiasgago Yeah, and it's not even % based in this game. It just blocks the first ~600 damage you'd take from a fall. So it's not just for saving from big falls or mistakes. A common comment on streams about DS2 is "THAT damaged me" concerning falls early in the game. Then people sort of get used to it being almost realistic in terms of how little you can jump from before getting injured. But having some sort of fall damage equipment means you can play it more like other souls games in terms of dropping down on enemies, etc, without taking scratch damage all the time, as it significantly increases how far you can drop down from without taking any damage.
I feel so horrible for saying this man, but i was looking SO SO SO forward to this! The entertainmentlevel is through the roof! Props to you for facing your fears man!

Would love to see you swinging that giant blade around smashing enemies in one hit personally, but it'sd not everyone's playstile of course ♥
Good job with Freya dude, its not easy facing your phobia like that. Btw dual wielding in this game takes up a lot of stamina, i really recommend having the chloranthy ring or the blossom kite shield (ds2 version of grass shield) to increase stamina recovery.
Just to plant the seed...You know Mati, Dark Souls 2 has a second quest that is significantly different than the first one and not only has new enemies, new lore, and items added to the base game...but there are two MYTHIC items that only masters of DS2 can acquire, the rings of The Conqueror and The Vanquisher, the first gotten by clearing the game without resting at a bonfire, and the second by clearing the game without dying...fun stuff for people like me who have over 500 hours in the game, lol....Oh yeah, and those numbers by the bonfire on the travel screen and the bonfire ascetic item can increase that region's difficulty up to 99, which not only makes enemies harder, but also increases the amount of souls they drop when killed, so it's basically a farming system (Find an area you like or a boss that's easy to kill, I suggest the boss of Black Gulch, and watch the souls roll in), and there are enemies that only appear once with unique items that can only be respawned with a bonfire ascetic... OH SHIT, and I noticed you had the gutter unlocked, when you fight one of those white knights in there with a spear, MAKE SURE to kill him and don't knock him into the hole (That he is literally sitting right next to) or you will miss your ONLY chance to get his weapon, The Heide Lance (A weird Item drop pool glitch makes it unavailable on NG+)...I personally like all the lance class weapons because they let you do a running charge attack and Leeroy Jenkins into groups of enemies...
Man, I remember the bottom area of Brightstone Cove being almost chaos to get through, and Scholar only added more enemies than the version I played through.
A bow is one of the best ways to deal with the abundance of enemies in dark souls 2, especially in the late game. A lot of times you can whittle down the enemies in the area before even putting yourself in physical harm.

Mati did you hear the news?! FROMSOFT just announced the Elden Ring DLC!!!! It's called Shadow of the Erdtree and from the concept art it looks like we'll be travelling back in time and interacting with Miquella. No release date yet but it's gotta be this year.
Hey matt! I have been watching your channel since you started bloodborne (considered a long time) and few days ago I was searching your playlists and I found SPIDERMAN REMASTERED. One of my favorite games. So I started watching it from you and I am in the 3rd part and I love it as much as I did while playing it. Also I found out that solaire voice actor is the same as the vileblood hunter Alfred (the one who mushed cainhurst queen if you remember). Anyway, good luck with the spiders. 🤪😂
No way dude that was my first ever series on the channel, literally played the whole game with 0 viewers and loved every second of it haha and no way I never put two and two 🤣
@@matiasgago Hahaha it's ok you get more and more views now as you deserve. Also aren't you afraid of spiderman because you know. SPIDERS. I had this question. 😂

@@matiasgago haha Yep. As soon as you mentioned how much you hated spiders back during Elden Ring your reaction to Freja was the first thing I thought of. I’ve been waiting 3 games to get here.
I'm deeply afraid of spiders myself and just before the boss fight with prowling Magnus and congregation the spider hanging up on that wall before the fog gate got me once and almost had a heart attack and for fellow arachnophobes out there make sure to look UP more often as it helps. Oddly enough though Dark Souls 1 and 2 both have a separate thing I fear in each game, hydras and spiders although I don't know if you can fear something that isn't real or part of Greek mythology but I do fear hydras...
I bet, lol. Now wait till DLC where real pain begins 😅. They are most loved and hated DLCs of souls series. They are extremely fun yet painful. DS2 has total 32 bosses so u have lot to go yet in main game itself. Also, the worst area is yet to come according to fanbase, though I personally love that area. It is named Shrine of Amana. See which side u wanna be after playing it 😅. Most enjoyable will be the castle as the area is really cool with fun enemies. Plenty to look forward to. Happy hunting!!
Also, if this an intermediate step on your path to freeing yourself of the chains of arachnophobia then your liberation will come with the game Grounded. Definitely the worst spiders I have encountered in any game. I'm a huge arachnaphobe too but I honestly feel like playing that game has given me enough exposure therapy to desensitize me to them. Would make for great content too!
great job facing your fears!! We all had faith in you! You really are inspirational to watch, and yes, you can rise above your fears.....have torch, will travel! :)
The Dark Souls 2 developers watching Mati's playthrough are like, "See? The torch system worked!"
According to the Souls lore, the Duke's Dear Freja is the reincarnation of Seath the Scaleless, who was pissed that Mati beat him easily and so took the form of a spider to get back at him.
Close but not quite. The souls of the lords were found by these entities and they shaped them. Freja used to be small as that’s her cage by the duke.

That’s what I’m here for 😅
Prowling Magus & The Congregation sure do have boss health bars
@@karageorgiou_07 not one bit bro spider man is my all time favourite super hero 🤣
@@matiasgago hahaha me too.
@@karageorgiou_07 Whos your favourite actor wise?
These games used to be so hard but after Elden Ring , the bosses in DS and BB are easy. Still love them.
I was waiting for this episode 😂
16:47 this is me when i go to dantist

You have fire butterfly in quickslot, you picked one later and you lit your torch at bonfire. My man :D

I’ve been waiting for this for a very long time
🕷️🕷️😱🕷️🕷️
You sick man… I love it 🫡
@@matiasgago haha Yep.
40:08 i wish you could see my smile dude 😂 Zwei time
facing your spidemons is always scary
I could feel ur pain, man. Nevertheless, it was masterfully done. Congratz u beaten the most spider infested part of souls series 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks a ton Partha this was brutal 😅
Mati, the npc you were trying to see through the door in shaded woods move to the room with the children statues.
great job facing your fears!! We all had faith in you! You really are inspirational to watch, and yes, you can rise above your fears.....have torch, will travel! :)
I still think these are the creepiest ACTUAL spiders in any souls game, the man spiders in the town are just as grim
