Martin Luther was a white supremacist. Hitler used his in theology to exterminate the Jews during the holocaust. My father would strike me when he was angry for his failures at his work. I had to use my forts as my protection. He attended Calvin College and Hope College in metro Grand Rapids, MI. He ignored the fact I was autistic. My mother taught me about empathy, compassion, and human kindness. I will embrace these ideals the rest of my life, even though I'm an atheist activist. Peace be unto you.
This is my favor rendition of this song. I had been a Christian for 15 but really didn't have it heart and soul until I really read the Bible and now it mean everything those words, The words are so true and mean so much when you realize that Satan is after you and you can't fight against him along as you would be loosing. But with the Right Man on are side, Christ Jesus. It all come together for Martin Luther, This was a real break out song as Luther was he just realized it was all bout Jesus and your own striving is just never enough to get there, It 's all Jesus.
Thinking about the people of Afghanistan Christians today. I pray they continue with their bold courage and faith under fire. They are under severe persecution and yet praise our Lord. Our prayers are with you oh people of Afghanistan! The Lord is with you A mighty fortress for sure!
Growing up from childhood as a protestant Christian and start of my adult life I've become a atheist! Christ have been winning back my heart over time. Thank you for this song it's brought me to tears.
He will never lose one that the Father has given him. Open your heart to him again. He is there with the most loving and open arms you can ever imagine.
The fact Martin Luther wrote this song almost 500 years ago and it still stands today is a testament to how powerful it is. These old hymns man, the lyrics are deep. Puts contemporary Christian music to shame honestly.
God is the same yesterday today and forevermore, His word has never changed and these old Songs hymns is still unto today the same, not this rubbish Hillsong bethel elevation of today, i go to a church in which we still sing the old pentecostal choruses get sung, and it stays the same, Holy Spirit-filled songs,
A few days ago I woke up to "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" in my head... I didn't know the song but I had heard of it. What a beautiful message and how wonderful that these are young people. I have new hope for humanity.
I found this song today after waking up this morning with a “Mighty Fortress is our God” going through my mind… God highlighted the word bulwark! He is our bulwark!
I woke up this morning and heard God whisper “bulwark”. He drew me to this song! “We WILL NOT fear for God hath willed, His truth to triumph THROUGH US!! 🏆His Kingdom is forever🏆!!
Verse 1 A mighty fortress is our God A bulwark never failing Our helper He amid the flood Of mortal ills prevailing For still our ancient foe Doth seek to work us woe His craft and pow'r are great And armed with cruel hate On earth is not his equal Verse 2 If we in our own strength confide Our striving would be losing Were not the right Man on our side The Man of God's own choosing You ask who that may be Christ Jesus it is He The Lord of Hosts His name From age to age the same And He must win the battle Verse 3 And tho' this world with devils filled Should threaten to undo us We will not fear for God hath willed His truth to triumph thru us And tho' this world with devils filled Should threaten to undo us We will not fear for God hath willed His truth to triumph thru us Chorus A Mighty Fortress is our God His kingdom is forever (x4) His kingdom is forever (x4) Ending If we in our own strength confide Our striving would be losing
I just love this version of A mighty fortress so much and I just think that these people in this video did such a wonderful job and I just love them so dearly.
"Praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord." Psalm 150:5-6
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today (April 27), I said goodbye to a beloved family member (third cousin) and fellow church member who left this world this past Thursday (April 24). We sang this as the family made its way into the church. We love you, Odell.
Absolutely beautiful! Thank you for reminding us that one of the characteristics of God is Lord Sabaoth, Lord of Hosts. HE leads the way & has a Host of Angels battling on our behalf. Every battle is The LORD’S, but we must stay in Faith, Speak HIS word, be obedient, and keep our eyes on HIM. HE HAS NEVER LOST A BATTLE!
This is beautiful! Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing; Were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God’s own choosing: Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He; Lord Sabaoth, His Name, from age to age the same, And He must win the battle.
Clearly, you mean that you don't like where how they interpreted this song... there clearly IS a crescendo; just not where you would like it. No two musicians would do things exactly the same, that is the beauty of music. I'm glad to see that the great hymns of the faith are being appreciated, taught and used to praise our amazing God in the next generation! Life is difficult and I am so glad to serve a God who truly is a Mighty Fortress a Strong Tower to whom we can run in times of trouble!

I have probably listened to this song at least 20 times in the last few days. - I'm doing the same thing! Love this old, old song and this great new rendition. LOVE IT!
Great rendition! This song means so much MORE to me since ‘The Mighty Fortress’ woke me up out of a coma caused by a brain aneurism. I was in a coma for 4 weeks, and when I finally woke up at UCLA, and the neurologists asked if I recognized the weeping woman at my bedside, my wife of 17 years, I said, “I’m not sure who she is, but I think I like her a lot.” (Of course, I had to be TOLD I said this because I don’t remember SAYING this!!!). To hear my story, search TH-cam for “Charles Frank Kurtz”, then spread word that miracles still happen to this very day!!! My being alive to even SAY this is miraculous!!! (I now REMEMBER my wife’s name!!!😆)
I Cannot believe and is stunned that Heartsong is coming to my Church on September 11, with the speaker being Cedarville's President. Koinos Christian Fellowship is where they are going to be at.
I've listened to this song probably 50 times since I found it about 2 weeks ago. It truly is part of my faith journey, and it just makes me so happy that I can listen to it about a million times.
Very good and rhythmic modern version of the Protestant hymn from Martin Luther. The good news of Jesus must go with the modern times Thank you very much!
Really great version of a nearly 500 year old song. These singers all look sincere and earnest. The vocals are spot on and the song really rocks! I'm not much for most Christian Contemporary music but this is a good video. Also, the Catholic Church does use this song in some hymnals. It might not agree with Martin Luther but if a religious song does not contradict Catholic teaching, it can be used.
I believe that I am correct -in this run on sentence - and let me know if I am not, that this hymn is one of three hymns Winston Churchill selected to be sung aboard The Prince of Wales in a church service at a secret meeting in the Atlantic with Roosevelt in which Churchill used Christianity as the common bond with the US to persuade the US to join Britain in WWII. Not long after, Pearl Harbor occurred and we were Allies. Think of this hymn in the context of WWII and of what Churchill was facing at the time of his appeal to us.This is a wonderful version of the hymn. I keep replaying it, too
Hi Grant, I loved all you did. You are super talented. I just wish the song contained what I believe to be the most powerful words of the song - words to die to. If you can imagine singing the national anthem without getting to the words "land of the free and home of the brave" you can imagine my frustration that such a great sounding song would not include those lyrics. Keep going and press on precious brother and know I am on your side and will pray for you and your ministry. God bless.
I've listened to this so many times! Would love to see the heartsong folks do more arrangements on classic hymns like this. So rich and full in truth and depth, particularly compared with the majority of modern worship music.
Grant, I just want to say how proud I am of the way you have developed in your faith after some of what you have been through in your young life. The way you developed the contrast between our striving and God's forever Kingdom I know will challenge and inspire the thousands of young teens that will hear this arrangement this summer.
Was having a rough day after some bad news, just full of anxiety. Searched for the hymn because it's a family favorite and this rendition made me cry. Thank you!
A song written by Martin Luther, sung in a Catholic Church. Jesus the Christ, He alone is Lord, Savior, Advocate, Intercessor, King, and God! The Holy Ghost the only Vicar! Boldly I approach His throne, by His blood I come, into the arms of Majesty!
Fantastic! Utilizing what is precious and adapting it for the 21st century without altering its message! (That is what we should do in sharing Good News!!)
I understand this may seem odd, but two things that would make this better. A mighty fortress is our guide, instead of God, and our helper He amid the flied, instead of flood. Never grin while you sing a hymn, again I know this may seem odd, but sing "angry" especially this hymn. I know you believe in Jesus, you perform the hymn, but you have not become the hymn, quite yet. Be the hymn. Sing from "anger." Righteous anger. This hymn has to be ingested. Ingest the words. Other than that I've listened to it fifty times probably. Love it. I especially love the black guy singing back up and glasses on the guitar. Great work.
Thank you Grant and all of HeartSong for a great worship camp this summer. Most of all, thank you for sharing this song that proclaims God's truth and power so loudly, boldly, and clearly. God bless! - Alex
Would so love to do this version in my church someday. Great job, so blessed to hear this 500+ year old song done with this contemporary arrangement. Really, really well done.
This is so well done. There is inspirational music... and then, there is theologically sound music that touches both the heart and the mind. Well done, people.
This song has consistently been a huge encouragement as I pursue ministry within the Church, now on Christmas Day I want to wish everyone the most blessed of seasons, may He soon return for His Bride!
Such a beautiful song! I just hear this live at LIFT camp 2013 with Jesse, Dexter, and some other band member's whose name's I can't remember for the life of me. But,I just had to look up this song, it has stuck with me since LIFT. It brings tears to my eyes and is just so BEAUTIFUL! A mighty fortress is OUR GOD! A bulwark NEVER failing! Amen. God bless you guys and the rest of the Heartsong team!
Love the arrangement and work done to this song. So proud of Heartsong and the work that God has been doing through this ministry and the continued work that He will exhibit through future music!
It's me, again. I also play the piano and organ. Today (June 7, Pentecost 2), I filled in at a local Lutheran Church. I played this as the Closing Hymn. It is #504 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.
💖💖💖 this rendition! So encouraging. Listened to it a few times the last couple days. So true! Love how it has a historical feel being in a huge, cathedralnlike church. THANK YOU for doing this and before social distancing when churches are now empty. Hosanna!

Joabe Alves Legal que a música não é a Castelo Forte literalmente, é uma adaptação. Ficou muito bom!!

Thanks Joabe for the lyrics.
I just love this version of A mighty fortress so much and I just think that these people in this video did such a wonderful job and I just love them so dearly.
Great arrangement guys. The best part of the video? Definitely that you recorded a Martin Luther song in a catholic church. Love that.
How do you work that out?
Could be an ornate Lutheran Church?

💖💖💖 this rendition! So encouraging. Listened to it a few times the last couple days. So true! Love how it has a historical feel being in a huge, cathedralnlike church. THANK YOU for doing this and before social distancing when churches are now empty. Hosanna!
