I have two expo OTDR I tested both OTDR with 100 km range fiber between total 17 splice point one OTDR show exactly 17 splice point another OTDR show only 11 splice point both OTDR setting is same then what is the issue?
Hi Kevin thanks for your great videos. In regards to certifying fibers links what is the prefered method between the iOLM and OLTS? Is iOLM meant as a troubleshooting tool only or can it be used to certify fiber optic links for customers as the OLTS is meant to do. Thanks.
Chris, I am glad you found the video useful. iOLM has the same functions as legacy OTDR testing, it offers more detailed and comprehensive results in one test versus the OTDR. Like the OTDR it is used for troubleshooting but is also used to certify event loss and reflection. OTDR (iOLM) is an integral part of full Fiber Characterization along with CD, PMD and OLTS. While it will provide Span/Link results and we have many customers who use it for span certification it is recommended to use an OLTS and OCWR (FTBx-945/MAX-945) for Span loss and ORL as it uses a continuous wave source and provides higher precision and does not suffer from mode field diameter miss match (gainers and losers) that we see in OTDR and iOLM from a unidirectional perspective. With that said if you were to use to to certify Span Loss and ORL it is important to use a launch and receive fiber and that bidirectional analysis be performed to account for the gainers and losers.
@@KevinPeres Thanks Kevin for your feedback I appreciate the information. Thanks again for your videos they have been very helpful in understanding the EXFO.
i am interested in buying exfo 730 c sm2 live with iolm + i adv the sales person couldnot explain it to me suppose i have a ftth network and i dont know how it is setup meaning i am unaware of the splitter setup there can be 1 splitter ir multiple splitters cascaded with unbalanced coupler too will the the otdr and iolm be able to identify them all ?

Nicely explained
