I'm so glad Matt is still curios enough to ask a lot of the questions we are thinking. Sometimes experienced breeders of animals forget that we laymen are basically clueless and they'll breeze over the intimate details but Matt still pops in and asks those questions so thank you Matt and thank you Kenan for sharing your knowledge!
This is the only kind of "reality TV" really love! Minimal fighting, maximum learning... and me grinning the whole time. Now back to prepping Genetics lessons for HS biology !
Perlite is a lightweight granular material that's white in colour. It looks and feels like little bits of polystyrene but is actually made from expanded volcanic glass, heated to 1000°C until it 'pops' (like popcorn) to many times its original size.
Eggs crack, first words out of baby tortoises. "Red foot, red foot...!" They see Kenan. "The bearded one! He is the keeper and feeder! Respect him!" Five years later... The former baby tortoises spot Kenan. "The blasted bearded Jedi, 'Qui-Gonn'! We await our day to take revenge on the Jedi -- after the Aldabra Sith take his truck!"
Hi Kenan, and Matt. Love egg laying season. Matt found the first egg. Now the egg hunt is on. You need an egg basket. The baby cherry heads, and red foot are so cute. Are the iguana eggg from Petra? Love those little curley tail. Are they in the iguana family? Have a wonderful day.❤All of your reptiles. Cindy
*KamP Kenan* Jeb here!!! 😅 Quick question and update "Does the depth and warmth of where the eggs are placed in the ground by the mother Predetermined rather if the neonate becomes male or female ?"
Just thinking where you found the the first lot of eggs, just an idea to stop getting in there and laying eggs is do the same which you done to stop them escaping,
I used to breed geckos and was told to never use miracle gro perlite cause it has fertilizer added to it and could harm or kill the egg’s based on forums for snake breeders. How long have you been using miracle gro perlite and any issues so far? Apparently causes higher mold rates too
Your eggs are awesome. Love the video. It really bothers me to see someone get a tortoise and hzve them live in their home and run around and not get the essentials they need. A woman posted her 3 tortoises on Facebook and they didn't look healthy.
Not sure if his tortoises are rescues, please correct me if so but some of his seem to have pyramiding. They don't seem to be getting the proper humidity as well as these are Rainforest Species which require about 70%-80% humidity, in which Florida and places don't always have that. On days that the humidity and temperature is proper outside, I take them out, if not, their indoor enclosure with humidity and temperature.
Am I the only one that cringes when Kenan handles eggs. (Yes I understand freshly laid reptiles eggs can be turned, but we don’t know when these were laid lol) Great video nonetheless!
NOT styrofoam but PERLITE it is a form of obsidian characterized by spherlulites formed by cracking of the volcanic glass during cooling, used as insulation or in plant growth media. Origin
This is my second video I’ve seen so take my feedback lightly, the dude filming keeps talking over the tortoise facts you were trying to give. Like he’s forcing his voice into the video? Just annoying.
Cracking up picturing Kenan and Matt walking around looking for exciting content, then the redfoots being like, "we got you!"
Indeed.....Party planning , always trust your tortoises !
😂
Like the Seagulls from Finding Nemo. 😂
Content? Content ?
Content?

Baby tortoises will always make my heart melt, they’re just too cute 🥺
Kennan: you grab her and throw her in the enclosure
Matt: gently…. Fuss fuss.
You know Matt is going to get Reptiles, someday.

Just curious what is the cue for the diapause to end and development to start again just temperature change?
Perlite is puffed glass. Not Styrofoam.

But I love his tortoises and his vids! Don't take this as a negative comment please.
I hope the Miracle Grow brand perlite doesn't have any Miracle Grow fertilizer in it......
