Ha! “Those” issues! I think a lot of people wanted “those” certain X-Factor issues included! At least we are getting X-Factor Classic vol 1 omnibus.
Art by Arthur Adams and Barry Windsor Smith is absolutely timeless. Fantastic stuff. Looking forward to getting this one later this month.

Thank you for the overview! Feels like we've been waiting for this forever...Claremont's 1st run is now complete (counting the crossover omnis). Gotta go with the BWS cover, I love that issue (and pretty much anything he does)

You asked what other titles would we like to see in omnibus format. I’m sure I’m not the only one who want to see a Bishop’s Crossing/X-Cutioners Song omnibus. It’s one of the few gaps in my library (Phalanx Covenant is the other one). Let’s see it happen Marvel!
Weirdly enough 185-215 is my era of X-Men. My dad gave me his X-Men collection when I was a teenager getting into comics, and that era was his era of X-Men. I ate that stuff up and loved it. Very shortly after we made a cross country move from Ohio to California and I spent the majority of the 5 day drive with my nose in them. I can’t wait to get this and relive these issues, as well as check out some extra stuff I didn’t get to read like Nightcrawler and Longshot.
And I have no problem with the new spines they look fine, but don't change the spine in the middle of printing a series. That's common sense.

This is the most impressive omnibus Ive ever seen. If u have XMEN omni’s from 1-5, u have the best of the best in comics. So many amazing artists and stories. For sure the Nightcrawler series is a great bonus for this omni.
My only problem with including Nightcrawler here is that the light tone from Cockrum doesn't match Claremont's increasingly darker writing. I feel it would have made more sense at the back of Vol 4 or even Vol 3.
I just read this comment...i have 1-4. So does it go downhill later after vol 5?
@Robd07 The tone becomes darker before Mutant Massacre hits, and never really lets up until Claremont leaves. It's as if Claremont got tired of making just more of the same and decided to pivot himself into a different author's run. Now some people will swear by late Claremont (the Inferno and Outback era seem to be favourites), but imo early Claremont can't be beat.
Mine is on its way! Already started my Mutant omni readthrough and am on X-Men vol 2. Finished the 'Frankenstein' story last night.
I will know what Thanos felt as he put that final Infinity Stone on his Gauntlet, when I put that Uncanny Vol 5 omnibus on my shelf between the other uncanny volumes and all the X-events that followed leading up to the Jim Lee era!

With this book my Claremont UXM run is complete. I already have UXM1-4, the crossover Omnis, and the CC/Lee Omnis and X-Tinction Agenda OHC, so this will be my stopping point. Happy to have it all though I wish they had a modern standard edition cover option. Not happy about the new spine, so this will be the first time I get a custom DJ but man excited to finally be getting these stories in omni format!
yes, they must've been anticipating lower sales to not commission a modern rendition like they have the past 4 volumes. the spine must be to fit whatever template the rest of the omnis are coming out with.
So you see, that's where the trouble began. That spine, that damned spine...
I just got mine today. Wow is it a beautiful book. I’m so excited. These are some of the best Claremont issues. Truly a great period of Uncanny X-Men. Thanks for all the work in getting this across the line Omar. Beautiful book.
I bet the individual who green lighted those atrocious spines likes to eat boiled chicken with no seasoning on the daily.

The end of my Uncanny collection. Thank you Omar for what you do and getting me started on this expensive collection. To answer your question at the end on where do us X fans stop I stop after X-Cutioners Song. So basically after the Claremont/Lee era. Although, I do jump around with a few more runs after.

OMAR I am late but I hope you read this, my xmen collection is all over the place. I have bits and pieces of it throughout the years and if I am being truthful have never prioritized them despite their popularity. Why I always love and finish all of your xmen reviews even if I am not in the know is your love and passion for theses stories and their creators and the inner workings of the behind the scenes. Even if you knew nothing about comics your passion is undeniably and your love for the game transcends what topic you are talking about. Omar coming yo!

That first Nightcrawler limited series is the best. Art is great, story is fantastic. Also early Alan Davis work. Classic and new charakters. This is a gem! Thanks for the overview. for a second i was afraid you would take this with you , on the plane to Japan.

Great vid as usual. This volume completes my collection of the Clairmont era in high quality reprint format.
I had his run as reprints in different formats. An example being classic X-Men. The quality difference is night and day.
As for the stories, Clairmont at his peak. Perhaps better than the Byrne era.
The plot of Uncanny X-Men 196 is lifted from 1948's Sorry wrong Number.
You did an excellent job on the impossible task of keeping it down to less than 35 minutes Omar. Though I sure like to see the raw review with what I can conservatively guess was an extra 20 minutes. :-D
BTW No stepping off, all the X-titles, everything. Except maybe X-statix (tough I won't be surprised if you could sell me on that too.

100% agree #207 should have been the DM cover (no disrespect to the BWS cover they chose). Iconic, and the first issue of X-Men I ever bought. A nostalgic era, so glad this finally all got collected.

So crazy seeing this in omni format... I mean, I was weirded out seeing these issues hit Masterworks! Uncanny 203 was the first X-Men I ever purchased, right off the spinner at my local Safeway in Virginia a loonnngggg time ago. I'd love to see Mutant X and Exiles in Omnibus format.

I thought most people tended to prefer the classic covers over the modern looking ones?
@@Goomyx1492Personally, I liked the modern artists doing new covers. It was cool to see new interpretations of the events inside. Only my volume 1 is the classic cover.
@@nicoliraymond9422 Yeah, I do agree the new artwork is usually really nice on its own. I do find it really jarring when the artwork on the cover is so radically different from the content inside though.
I thought I was alone. Love the modern covers. But they said the classics sold better.
This is my most anticipated omni of the year. I’ll end up getting the standard cover, issue 200 is so good. I’m looking forward to seeing Storm vs. Cyclops & the Longshot mini in oversized format. I’d like to see Mike Carey’s X-Men run in a omnibus but I’d really love to have the Kyle & Yost X-Force get the oversized treatment. Thx for the excellent overview, I didn’t think I could get more pumped for this one but I am.

This is the favorite era of Uncanny X-Men. I was 13(ish) when i picked up X-men 207 from a local gas station/market . My love for the X-men was set in stone!
They should of done an old spine design for 1 of the covers
Totally agreed. Why did Marvel just recently release vol 1-4 with the old spine and then change it for 5?

That’s what I mean. The ones printed in the last year and a half have the new spine design. We share the DJs on our social media.
I’m happy I preordered this now, it’s a great collection and well mapped. I file my omnis alphabetically so I have white spines, logo spines, classic spines etc all in various order. The smaller spine font is a little frustrating but never a deal breaker. Thanks Omar!
Hey talking about Marvel Fanfare. How about a Marvel Fanfare Omni? That book had some great stories and even more impressive artwork in it. And I believe not alot of it has been seen since. Has any of it been reprinted somewhere? Maybe not enough material for an Omni? If not then an oversized hardbound will do.

I have to agree with the others about wanting the old spine design to match my other 4 volumes. I just don’t understand making the change on the 5th volume. At least have the old one on the first printing and then make the change.

VOl. 6 is a given to come eventually. The question is the content. If its all reprints of things we got in X-events with previous Omnis, will people buy it. The debate with the wallets begins with X-Factor vol. 1.
I absolutely would. I'm not a fan of event omnis; too much of mixed bags. Give me Claremont or give me (life)death!

Omar will you switch from the old spines uncanny x-men vol. 1 to 4 omnibus to the new spines uncanny x-men vol. 1 to 3 omnibus (and in the future vol. 4)? What is your take on this as a personal collector?
Should have my copy this weekend. One step closer to all of Claremont's original run in oversized format for me.
Now my question is how much of a wait for Vol 6? Most of the material in Vols 6-8 will have been in the event omnis. So are they going to have us wait for 2 years or so for Vol 6? Or are they going to get us them quicker since the material has already been in oversized format? Hoping quicker since most of us already have that material.
I believe the Uncanny omnis have historically been released after the material is released in Masterworks, so it may be awhile.

I'm currently rereading VOlume 3, so it is going to be a while before I get to 5. Nevertheless, I am super excited for this, but I really don't see a point in getting Volume 6 and beyond given I already own them in MM, FotM, PtI, Inferno, etc. All I need at this point is X-Tinction Agenda and then I can call my X-Men collection complete.
I will say, I did struggle to get through the two early ominbuses that encompassed the first 66 issues, especially the first half. It wasn't really until about issue 40 where I felt the series started to pick up, but even then, it was still inferior to Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, etc. I also don't get what the point was of splitting the team up when 3 issues later they're back together and the FBI dude is never heard from again.
Anyway, I'm trying to decide if I should read the New Mutants omnis after I get through Uncanny 5 before going into Mutant Massacre.
If you also want all X-Factor and New Mutants issues in omni format then you'll going to need XF vol. 1 and NM vol. 3 which both majorly double dip with the event omnis. Might as well get UXM vol. 6 and sell off the event books.
Oh, I'll definitely be getting those, but the Claremont run of X-Men is my must own series.
The event books include all of the side stories, so I wouldn't sell them off ever.
At the beginning of the video you mention a Vol 6... (2:45 ish) is there really any point considering Mutant Massacre starts immediately in the next issue? It would be a huge double dip scenario. All I know is I've officially bought my last ever Xmen omni with this one. I have all the Xmen event books after this and then the 2 Claremont/Lee books. Regarding Xmen, I'm now out.
From a collector's perspective, the main point is that both New Mutants vol. 3 and X-Factor vol. 1 will also majorly double dip with the event books but also have issues not in them, so UXM vol. 6 will allow us to sell (or gift) our copies of the event books.

Chris Claremont's Magneto is one of my top 5 favorite fantasy characters of all time; most of these are my favorite comic stories. Already have them in a nice collection of spanish hardcovers.
When I open up a brand new omnibus, I always put my nose to the center of the pages and get a big ole whiff of comic ink goodness. Idk why, but Marvel omnis always smell the best.
I read these on my phone this winter on my way through this series. Glad to have it in OHC now.

I want to believe they’ll be getting around to plugging the 90s gaps soon. Give me the Road to Onslaught omnibus! Hoping that a potential continuation with volume 6 and on doesn’t mean they’ll stop giving us those kinds of books to fill the gaps if we’ve been collecting for years
I think you are totally SOL on those old style books. Of course I don't know that for sure but it doesn't look good. How many years has it been since they came out with a new one of those?
Well Marvel did release Inferno Prologue as an omnibus last yr and that was basically just to put the orphan Uncanny issues before Inferno event, so it is possible gap fillers like Road to Onslaught could still be released.. it continually makes its way onto the Top 50 most wanted every year so that’s about all we can do.
@@Justin-sn4ku Good point, I'm definitely eager to see if they will be doing that stuff. I had a bunch of those trade paperbacks so I recently sent them all in to be custom bound into books, just decided not to wait.

Finally! I'm so excited to get my hands on this.
I initially was going to stop my collection at inferno but then I saw the Claremont & Lee omnibus on sale so i got that so now i'm kind of stuck waiting for an X-tinction Agenda OHC reprint before I pull the trigger on getting Claremont & Lee vol 2.
In terms of X related i'm planning on collecting all of the excalibur omnis for the original run. It's the first series i took a leap of faith on and bought the omni before knowing anything about it and it was really good except for some of the filler, but that lockheed trial issue was great.
I'd definitely like to see an X-tinction Agenda+days of future present omni if they aren't planning on reprinting the x-tinction agenda OHC
My plan is to start with the Marvel Masterworks Original X-men run. Then I’ll switch to Omibus format collecting every other X-men family Omnibus and oversized book until I reach the Age of Apocalypse.
I like how when Magneto is on trial in Paris there's still torches lining the prison wall, as if nothing has changed in Europe since medieval times.
I just started a couple of years ago, but I am collecting every X-men Omnibus I can get and will probably keep going indefinitely. I started reading X-Men between the "Mutant Massacre" & "Fall of the Mutants" and after getting back issues or Classic X-Men reprints all the way back to Giant-Size #1(and The Early Years) I read and collected pretty much every X-book and guest appearance all the way to "Operation Zero Tolerance". I have read TPBs of Astonishing, NEW, and Uncanny later on, not to mention HoX/PoX now on Marvel Unlimited, but I am hoping to be collecting omnis until they get to the point where I first quit and beyond.
My white whale is finally on the horizon, and I've only been waiting since 2019. Can't imagine how exciting this is for fans who have been waiting years.
That new spine is hurting me so bad. I wish bad things to whoever made the decision to change spines for ongoing series.

Would love to see a comparison of issue 205 in this omni with the one in the Weapon X Gallery Edition. The color in the Gallery Edition was as close to the newsprint as I’ve seen Marvel get.

Omar, I just received this book today and it is excellent! Just a thought, you should compare this vol 5 to the first printing of vol 3. Both books are almost the same page count and thickness, and even though vol 3 came out in 2016, these books are almost identical in size. Volume 3 has bleed through as well as this vol 5. Not a big deal, to me, but the paper police might be interested that a book that came out in 2016 had bleed through! Who would have thought?! Just a suggestion. Talk to you soon!

So excited for this one. I was hoping the finished Rick Leonardi pages from the abandoned Phoenix mini series would have been included. Also strange mapping with the Nightcrawler mini.
I would have loved that too. I’m okay with the mapping. They went publishing order like the masterworks.
I hate the spine but am happy that I am getting this book.
