Hey man, so i tried this setup and did work without a problem, But i have a question if you might know or if anyone else does, I have an adapter for the USB that has Output 5V 2.0A or 9V 1.67A or 12V 1.25A. So i was wondering if i can use the 4 wires in the usb cable, red - black to sata red - black for 5V and the other 2 in the usb cable to Yellow - Black Sata 12v and then connect it to the adapter that has all those outputs or would it not work like that because the adapter can only have one of the outputs "active" at a time? Thanks in advance and great video :)
My bro, Why don't you have this written out? Your video is of little help because we can see what wires you are connected to for + and -. Is that the SATA plug you are making your connection to? By connecting pin 3&5 to one another, what is that for/doing? Which wires on the yellow, black, red, and orange connector do we connect to? just a small listing of what wires you are connecting your 5V + to and 5V - to. If we reverse polarity, does it spin in reverse? prob not if its brushless.. Anyways, text is always best, video is good as a visual reference, as an aid. thanks man.
Yes, that's right. I should have explained in more detail. However, because of the time at that time, I did not have much and I also wanted the video length to be moderate. Why don't you find your own the answer: try reversing the + and - poles...etc? This is not difficult at all. And please share with me the results :) Thanks for watching!
Unfortunately mine doesn't work. I have a 3TB Barracuda DM001 and neither the 6+2 or 3+5 pin shorting works. It stops after 10-20 sec. Plus mine requires the r/w head socket to be bolted on, as I see yours is not, it has contacts on one of the two screws holes. I guess it's a hit and miss, have to try other methods.
Yes, You're right! Or can also use a booster from 5v to 12v. Very much module/board available for sale right now (but better is from 12v to 5v). Hope you enjoy :D
Many IDE type hard drives will spin continuously as long as the power is applied, but not all. In particular, Western Digital drives won't stay spinning in this way, stopping after a few seconds.
It’s depending on SATA power standards! Yellow wire need 12v…and other color need 5v. You can using only 12v and downgrade from 12v to 5v. Understanding the standard SATA power supply pins in the HDD | Gold Screw th-cam.com/video/biN-sTTtEPI/w-d-xo.html

Love the idea would love to do it myself. Only concern is (and I might be 1000x wrong),would it not burn it out? I mean if you're using something that is resisting against it whilst spinning? Genuinely curious, apologies I'm totally new to this kind of thing. Keep up the awesome content :)
You can using the old HDD to make many DIY products: Grill…you can search it on TH-cam! And with my solution you don’t need ATX power supply or anything else.
Try linking pins 2 and 6 instead, but bear in mind that not all drives will work like this - it seems to be a sort of undocumented feature that's not universal across all manufacturers

its fake, motor needs a special circuit called "driver circuit" for it to be able to spim
In case of pata connector which pins has to be connected for running continuously ??

What About ATA HDD
Hello. Can we use a 5V adapter and a regulator instead of the 12V in order to control the motors speed ?
The best is 12V, because the brushless motor required 12v. So if you want to use 5v, you'll need a DC-DC boost converter
