it’s disappointing that this season doesn’t stand up in comparison to the others, it has a few fantastic episodes but for the most part is lame. hopefully they get it sorted out for the next one
I just really did not like this season. The episodes you listed as best I agree with but I am confused as to why Mac's dad is still alive cause I thought they killed him off when Mac and Charlie tried to prove his innocence.
Until the 12th season, they could play their characters' quirks as instruments in a band, but removing Dennis leave them sounding off, like a rock band without drums of guitar. This season was closer to the first season, when they hadn't found their voice yet. I give it 5/10 rum hams.
In the latest seasons Rob, Charlie and Glenn haven't been writing much, only like 6 out of 30 episodes. I don't know why, but in the last season it shows.
Watched half of episode one for the first time and new it wasn't the same as previous seasons when Frank didn't burst thru the room with suasges and his piece .Mindy is no Bueno
They’re going pc they even said that “Dee dates a retarded person” is the one episode they regret because it’s not pc. This season just didn’t do it for me
I've been watching sunny for years and seen it all like 30 times, sometimes just have it on in the background. This season wasn't great I was pretty disappointed specially that Dennis was missing in a few episode and he's my favorite character. Mac and Dennis move too the suburbs is still my favorite episode. I'm glad someone else thinks the same about this season as me.
its funny how you used The Office as an example because I looked up iasip13 reviews because I saw a post about people wanting Sunny and Office to do a crossover
i mean its not really the shows fault that dennis wasnt in quite a few episodes since nbc quite literally refused to let him go film more then just a handful of episodes, so they had to try and get around that. rob mcelhenny said it was really difficult writing episodes without him and that it just felt empty without him there so in that way i can see why they did more solo character episodes instead. that being said i think mac finds his pride is probably my new favourite episode of the show, i thought it was beautiful and a great way to show mac finally overcoming his internalized homophobia completely. the dance quite literally made me tear up. and franks 'i get it' was just a wonderful moment of acting, showing just how amazing danny devito is! GAY MAC RULES! GAY RICH MAC!
I understand why people don’t like the season because of the call backs, and Dennis in and out the episodes. But you gotta remember why this season is the way it is. Dennis left, but when he came back seemingly nothing had changed. But Dennis missed out too on a lot of stuff and it’s even questionable if he ever did come back. Without Dennis to keep the gang as they were they started moving on the other things like Mac finally coming to terms on his dad not loving him. Dee has fully tried and failed to one up Dennis and even take the mantle of “Golden Goddess.” Even accidentally committed statuary rape in the process. Charlie is with the waitress now even though he doesn’t love her but he’s worked so hard to get her he can’t just let it go even if she’s gonna carry his baby. Frank is frank but he now understands Mac, and without Charlie he’s gone all out on making sure the gang has fun or something to do. This whole season is questioning everything up to this point which is why everything has been saying “Time is up” it’s going to be over soon and this season is the beginning of it. It may not be perfect but I respect the show for at least doing something unique with the season. Hopefully season 14 will be up to peoples standards
The Escape Room episode and the Super Bowl episode were the best. They reminded me the most of early sunny, despite Dennis's absence in the latter. I fucking lost it when Dennis yelled about riffing. The Charlie episode and the Boggs episode were just awful
Thurnis Haley the gang gets new wheels was another episode for me that reminded me of early always sunny. The other ones were pretty meh. Especially the last episode, it was beautiful but it wasn’t always sunny at all.
@@Thatonegirl989 yeah I thought the Mac ending finale scene was nice, but not really fitting in a show like Always Sunny. I struggle to believe Frank would ever “get” gay people and I honestly just kept waiting for a punchline that didn’t come.
I might be wrong, and may have missed something, but Dennis just vanishes? He's in the "clip show" episode and then isn't present for the "Charlie is home alone" episode, and as far as I can tell, there's no mention of where or why Dennis is not there? I know there was scheduling issues etc, but I thought they would of gave some reasoning why one of the biggest characters wasn't there? Anyone got anything I don't know about? Or have I missed something?
It started off great, Dennis was back and things were looking up. The show only works when they are all in it for me. The all women ep was the only one out of the four not featuring him I enjoyed. Hated the last two episodes, it didn't fit.
Yeah, I agree. The last episode tried really hard to be "deep" and "artistic" but it just did not work and felt painfully out of place. I was waiting for the punchline, but it sadly never showed. And all the prisoners clapping at the end was cringy as fuck. There's a time and a place to talk about gay acceptance in your show, but the way the show did it felt overly preachy and corny as fuck. The show doesn't take itself too seriously, which is why I really like it. It makes fun of hot buttoned issues yet in the last episode is was completely straight faced and it just did not work at all.
The ending was pretentious and foolish. Do what you want with your own intellectual property but don't come at me for not liking it. It was a violent shift in tone for the series and felt like it lost their amoral objectivity. These characters having emotionally valuable direction is insane and it complete loss of what the show should be.
This season was the first season that disappointed me. I thought 12 was a bit worse than usual but this one just felt way off and I didn't really find many episodes funny at all. Sadly I think season 14 had the same off feeling too in most episodes
As a dancer I really liked the finale I thought the dance piece was really cool and the use of the water was beautiful and unexpected but the season was not my favorite tbh
I really didn't like this season. I especially disliked the last episode. Sunny was a show whose characters were completely culturally inappropriate, living in their own world, devoid of any socially acceptable behavior. Often the show would touch on trending issues and topics but it's characters would always have their own abnormal, twisted and 'wrong' approach. It's what made it funny. Now, in the finale of season 13, the last scene was basically the opposite of what this show always was. It's pushing this agenda, which is fine, just not for Sunny. Throughout the whole scene I was just expecting something bad to happen, like Luther watching the play and then going "Gaaaaaay!" or something, because that's truly Sunny-esque. Instead, we got an inspiring, 'gay-is-ok' moment that would frankly fit better in almost anything else but It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. P.S. Similar to season 13 finale, in S12E01, just after the BLM boom, they made an episode touching on that whole thing. It wasn't the best, but it was still true to the show.
@@josephconner2586 For me, as a fan of the show, it's not okay. It fits the characters but doesn't fit the show. As I said, it would've been great if it were anything else. They did however touch on most of what we found bad with s13 in s14, so at least things are a little more clear. And to be completely fair, shows are not supposed to last this long. Things just get washed up. You can't milk the cow forever. The gang did an amazing job. I'll be rewatching it many more times, I'm sure - including the last two seasons. On a side note. Anyway, great show. Kind of glad it's over, I feel it's better that way. And this way, if they ever get back in the same groove, they can just fire it up again. And as I was typing this, I looked it up online and there's talk of s15 already lmao. I just hope that if this happens - it's not just because they're being forced by fxx or something
I agree completely. I think the clip show episode should get honorable mentions as well. I watched the first five minutes with zero faith, and was pleasantly surprised with where they took it. I think it did kind of end on a weak note but I was glad that they went in the direction they did. Overall I agree, definitely the worst season, and I hope it's not the actual end to the shiny golden god of a show that is It's Always Sunny.
yes and the wierdest thing is that only a tiny minority of the audience seem to see that, they are like "whoohoo!" "the feels man!" "I'm pro gay and everyone who hated the dance is a homophobe!" like if it ever was the point... nobody cared of Mac being gay, only him not seeing the obvious was funny. I suppose it has a lot to do with the entrism of identity politics in pop culture, especially in the US
This season was awful. Especially the last three episodes. The finale was such a jarring change of tone, I thought I was watching something else! All the main characters in this show are meant to be assholes, which is why the show works. The sudden injection of heartfelt emotions is basically a "go fuck yourself"(brilliantly performed by Charlie ) to the fans. Also, if that was an ending to a show like the office, I would have really enjoyed it. It simply doesn't fit in iasip.
A few episodes were meh. But overall this season was fantastic. I loved it. The way it ended was so powerful. It hit my emotions and that’s something new for Sunny. I love that they tried some different things this season.
The finale is one of my favourite episode of the show only becuase I can relate to Mac I cried at the ending because not only was it relatable it was beautiful.

This season also relied way too much on callbacks in my opinion, as opposed to coming up with original jokes
