Apart from China, Japanese companies are now considering the possibility of investing in the construction of expressways in Cambodia.
In terms of expressway infrastructure, so far Cambodia has been launching one line, from Penh to Sihanoukville, the first line, while a second expressway connecting Phnom Penh to Bavet has opened. Construction was completed in mid-2023 and scheduled for completion in 2027. The third expressway, which connects Phnom Penh to Siem Reap and Poipet, is being studied to reach future construction sites.
For the above high-speed projects, all are invested by the Chinese Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC). Recently, however, AMIDA POWER Inc. A large Japanese company has examined the possibility of investing in the construction of this expressway in Cambodia. The confirmation of the above company was made during the courtesy call and discussion between Mr. TSUKASA SAKURADAN, CEO of AMIDA POWER Inc. This is with HE Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia on June 27, 2024. Please be informed that according to the Comprehensive Master Plan on the Cambodian Transit and Logistics System 2023-2033, it shows that between 2023-2033, the Royal Government plans to build 9 expressways with a total capital of 7173. $ 69 million.
In the same list of transit transportation projects, the 9 expressway projects are divided into two phases, with a short-term plan of 2023-2027, with 4 lines requiring a capital of 4,184.81 million USD, and a long-term plan of 2028-2033. There are five additional expressways with a capital of $ 2,988.88 million.
