      Same here.
If you like hoodies, I can mail you a hoodie of my TH-cam channel for free.
It has Michigan map on the front and the U.S map on the back. The U.S map has all 48 lower states. States I've been to (32) are highlighted with a different color. You can choose the colors you like on the hoodie.

I've ended using PayPal for the purchasing of pins. You can still participate in the map by visiting my Patreon page and following the steps there.
If you would like to purchase a pin, please provide the following information:
    1. where you are originally from
    2. where you currently live
    3. where you would live if you could live anywhere you want
The pin will be placed at the spot where you'd like to live, but if you do not provide the other info I won't be able to assign a residence category (A-E) for you.
For future videos where I show updates of this map, I'll shade in the lakes, bays, sounds, etc. to make the pins along the shorelines more visible. I may also add the state/province abbreviations for each one for easier viewing.
Thank you very much for supporting the channel!

When I went to PayPal and tried to get a pin, it said, "Donations to this recipient aren't supported in this country." I don't know if it's a setting that can be changed or something PayPal just won't allow, but I'd imagine some other international viewers may also run into the same problem.

I would love to buy a pin, but are having problems with Paypal. But just for your info this is my answers to your three questions. 1. Originally from the island of Amager southeast of Copenhagen, Denmark. Currently I live in Brøndby, a suburb of Copenhagen, and I want to move to western North Carolina, most likely about half way between the towns of Lenoir and Wilkeboro as I have a lot of friends in that area.
An alternative to Paypal could be a Facebook Funraiser.

Yea that lone pin in Detroit is mine (not trolling lol). The media and Detroit's reputation tends to drive people away, but it is similar to most major American cities. It is a city that you have to give it a chance. There is a nice Riverwalk (apparent ranked #1 in the US), nice plaza in the middle of Downtown (also apparent ranked top 10 in the US), Windsor Ontario skyline across the river, great historic Art Deco skyscrapers, nice urban beaches (one in middle of Downtown and on Riverwalk) and actual beaches on an island (pretty close to Downtown), 4 pro sports teams within a block of each other in Downtown, Downtown shopping (from local to stores like Nike, H&M, Lululemon, etc with potentially an Apple Store in the future since Apple Academy is locating in Detroit), casinos, Greektown, Mexicantown, Corktown (oldest neighborhood), Eastern Market (farmers market which also has tons of murals in the area similar to Wynwood in Miami), the Belt (hip alleyway with tons of mural in Downtown), iconic People Mover (monorail), Qline (Streetcar), lots of museums, nice dedicated bike paths, boat tours and cruises, large events, conventions, and parades. This is just within the city not including the metro-area.

There are only a few basic reasons people live where they do. 1) a desire to live in a specific climate/geological area 2) a desire to live near a loved one 3) a desire to live wherever they have to live to find employment that will enable them to live at the socioeconomic level they want or 4) there are things where they are that prevent them from relocating - family obligations, lack of enough financial flexibility to gather the resources to move, legal obligations. Fascinating subject. Thanks for the video.

  • @Connor_Herman

This is really fascinating to me. I've been lucky enough to live in 4 different states, visit all 50, and visit 55 countries. I currently live in Denver and it's no surprise how many people want to move here. I70 gets more and more congested every year and there's no room to expand it. I went to college in Minneapolis and I absolutely loved it there. I'm looking to build a house on a lake near Brainerd, MN in the next several years. Minnesota is definitely my favorite state in the country. I was surprised to see Duluth had a relatively large amount of responses! If I could have a place to live in Denver as well as Minnesota, that would be ideal but housing here seems almost unattainable at this point.
Outside of the US I found a few places to be super livable. I enjoyed my time studying abroad in Lyon, France and still have friends over there. Norway is incredible and it's no surprise several people chose that. I'm actually learning some Norwegian now and I'd like to go back. I enjoyed how laid back and cheap both Malta and Cyprus were. If I liked the beach more I'd certainly consider those. Singapore is terrific - it feels like the city of the future - but the humidity and heat are oppressive and the government is a bit overbearing. In Australia I could've seen myself living in Perth or Melbourne. Nice climates and a very vibrant culture - although Perth is the most isolated city of its size in the world which would make it difficult to travel for short times.

Okay but once you move to Seattle you have to obey Seattle rules. Jeans and a tee are acceptable just about everywhere. You let people into traffic and, if someone lets you in, you always give the wave. You must tell everyone it rains all the time even when the sky is blue. Coffee is actually a religion. Beer and wine are also religions but coffee is something that rules your life. Thanks for this. My husband and I have traveled around the country several times. Thank you Geography King - I am a nerd about a lot things - geography is definitely one of them. Given the skewed sample here of people who actually like geography, perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised that the desire to relocate to San Diego was so strong. As a life long resident of San Diego, on balance, it's probably one of the nicest places to live in North America. I realize visiting/traveling to various places is not the same as living there. I think we could all agree that there are days when each place can claim their own slice of perfection. It's my belief that San Diego gets more than it's fair share of those slices. As some of the comments here have pointed out: Near/Long-Term Negatives: real estate bubbles (poor new family affordability); climate change (fresh water/rising sea levels/fires); high taxes and cost-of-living (high paying job required); growing density issues (no comparison to LA where you are expected/required to run red lights/stress levels are really high). Positives: beaches/surf are year round attractions [I regret being unable to insert sunset photo here]; weather (almost always sunny and 70F); Outdoors 365 days a year (albeit one needs to travel for skiing/fishing) and it only rains occasionally. In sum, when I come to visit your city, please understand that I promise not to move there, and I will tip well when dining in your restaurants. I'll be the one with the bumper sticker "just passing through"!

It was most interesting to see represented on maps where your viewers want to live. The locations of the pins were quite diverse and a few choices were somewhat surprising.
As I bought a pin, here's the answers to your questions:
1). Born in NE Texas, but raised and came of age in Harrisburg, PA, which I consider my hometown.
2). For the past 20 years, Gaithersburg Maryland has been home. I'm quite fond of living here. It's close to DC and within reasonable driving distance of Baltimore, Philly, NYC and the DE beaches, along with Pittsburgh and of course, the NC Outer Banks.
It's also a "Character Counts!" City, values I fully support and appreciate. I chose to live here partly for this reason specifically. It's overall a good place to call home, IMHO and affordable when compared to housing costs in other cities in the County or DC/MD/NOVA Metro.
3). While Toronto, Ontario and Dublin, Ireland are sorely tempting, everyone we know and care about are mostly in the Mid-Atlantic region. Having built so much of our lives here, but also being anxious about rising sea levels (a genuine concern for much of the eastern part of our state), it's hard to pick one place...
But put the pin somewhere around Parkton MD, in Baltimore County. Because ultimately, central Maryland's become our adopted home. Give us a nice house in a quiet neighborhood with some trees and that's about all we'd need. :)

I’m a senior senior citizen. Consider Astoria OR my home. Only 2 times in my life did I get to pick where I lived (not family or husband decision). I chose San Diego and I’d choose it again but I’m old now and live near my daughter and granddaughters (2) in South Orange County. It’s not San Diego though it’s only a Camp Pendleton away.
Astoria is small wet and beautiful. It surprises people when I say I didn’t own an umbrella. Rain is soft and gentle. You can do outdoor activities 11-12 months of the year unlike in the Ark-La-Tex. Also there are no poisonous snakes or poison ivy/oak in Clatsop county. I spent over 30 years in Louisiana and 8 in Arkansas. No way would I ever moved back to the South‼️

Luckily, New Buffalo is serviced by two different Amtrak lines and is also not too far from the South Shore line in Michigan City Indiana. It's far enough from Chicago to have a small town quiet feel but it is still extremely easy to get back to Chicago if I want to. They also have the Stray Dog restaurant, which has fantastic food and a great view of the lake where you can actually see Chicago on the other side.

Hey Kyle, 6:03 - you are spot on with this comment. Michigan is a peninsula state, which means that for many road trips south, especially from the Detroit area, one must take a fairly unhappy stretch of I-75 in Ohio to exit the state. A four to six hour road trip within the State of Michigan can usually put you in nicer spot in less time, and often on one of the Great Lakes or the smaller inland lakes. I have lived in Michigan for 25 years and I would like to relocate to Traverse City or the Leelanau peninsula. But it is not as if Michigan is all I know; I went to college in Atlanta and to high school near you, right up on the ridge in Chattanooga. And I have lived outside the US twice in my life; three years in Japan and then a bit later another three years in South Korea. And I love the Gulf of Mexico. From NOLA through the pan handle down to Naples, you can’t beat the Gulf for warm water and fantastic shrimp. But just as you observe, I want to move from one spot in Michigan and retire in another spot in Michigan.

Seattle itself isn't really that popular here in Indonesia, i mean the usual NYC and LA always be the first, but it is growing in name around here. With big tech and a rising start-up, business, and future industries in the metro area, the best growing transit system in US, near one of the best cities in North America, Vancouver, and having a really temperate climate, with many growth potential, honestly i can see Seattle becoming the next San Fransisco or at least having the same footing as it by the end of the century.

If you find that your home is perfect, then blessings to you! But, go see something while you still can, go see it all. Fill up the tank, take the kids and go see everything!

Had I saw this earlier I would have put in a pin on the white mountain region of NH. World class pancakes (pollys and bentons) and beer (treehouse and hill farmstead) a short drive away. Also no where else compares in the fall.
Peak fall is approximately October 5-12 i highly recommend visiting during that time as well as the Stowe area and green mountains in Vermont as well as Moxie falls, Baxter state park, and Acadia national park in Maine.
A hidden gem in the us you might not hear about is the pittsburg NH area way up north. The town of Dixville notch has a population of 12 and is where the first votes are cast in the national election. A lot of the roads are offroad/ 4wd only. Its a beautiful and serene area with very few tourists. The most incredible breakfast Aprils maple is in Canaan VT 30 mins down the road

I think a lot of people would like to live where there is more scenic beauty, but of course, in most cases, there are few well-paying jobs there. With the switch to remote work that COVID forced, I wonder how many people will actually try moving to some of these spots if they can.

How come? They are both very romanticized, it doesn’t surprise me that people would want what they see in movies and media. Not to mention they are some of the more well known American cities. People mainly like it for the many “things” and activities you can do there, to live your life not to settle down, because, obviously, these wouldn’t be very good places to realistically and comfortably ‘settle down’

    - crowded
    - boring
    - expensive
    - hot and/or humid
    - rainy (I did this by leaving Seattle)

So I think the Massachusetts thing demonstrates something important that you don't get in the Western US. For example, you have individual cities that don't particularly demonstrate the demographics or socio-economic state of their respective states like Santa Fe, NM or San Diego: even Portland & Seattle aren't particularly representative of the general population of their states. Then you get Mass. I've been spent maybe a two weeks out of the past 40 years in Massachusetts but you can tell it's a well run operation full of smart, if not the most openly friendly people.

    • @striker44
      @striker44 3 ปีที่แล้ว

20 Massachusettses fit into 1 California. If you break up California into 20 parts the right way, you will get the MA-like homogeneity and socio- economic parity across some of the individual parts. The beauty of California is in the topographical, climatological, geological, demographical diversity, unfortunately not the socio-economic disparity.

@@striker44 Well said, but I'd say California is untenable due mostly to the very socio economic issues it's created which will only become worse when the fire season is 9 months combined with 3 months of continuous brown outs. I've lived here forever. It's beautiful but we're all pretty screwed.

@@CommentLikeDescribe Agree with you. Despite the mismanaged state of the 5th largest economy in the world, to me the West represents freedom, every spirit of it - coming from someone who has traveled and lived in 3 continents. We here have the brains, money and muscle to bring the change, barring the deep political divide we are all in.
