“Say yes to the player” The commercial Flop of Prey 2017 is one of the worst things to happen to modern gaming and it still haunts the industry, Prey embodied everything that games should strive for with its insane open ended game design, interactivity and the players ability to express themselves it is what separates gaming as medium compared to movies and books and that’s what arkane understood, sadly gamers and reviewers didnt and even though the main studio didn’t shut down most of the key developers left.
Prey has offered me a feeling of freedom when approaching something I wanted in the game that I haven't felt since bioshock 1 and half life before it. You just went into a new area, looked around, and after putting together a solution of how to do something and succeeding and feeling like a genius you started to see all of the other possible options to reach the same goal. If this was its own IP and not connected to a previous title dragging along its own player expectations and marketed differently, I think it would have done much better.
I played Prey near release and loved it. I didn’t follow a lot of gaming news at the time and once I heard no one played it and everyone was pretty negative on it I knew the industry was cooked
Prey was incredible, one of my favourite games for sure. I went back and played Prey after I'd beaten Redfall to capture footage for the video. It was heartbraking how much better Prey was compared to Redfall. I think it would have been better for Arkane Austin to make a single player vampire game with immersive sim elements (maybe Arkane Lyon will do this with Blade?) The multiplayer stuff is one of Redfall's weaker points.
important to note that Arkane had lost like 70% of its staff from Prey to this so they were struggling right from the release just due to its name. Prey was too good for its time, lets be honest.
Hey man this is a great video! Came across my recommended feed and figured I’d give it a watch! You gave some very respectful and constructive criticism of Redfall; it’s just a shame we won’t see Arkane Austin be able to implement any more changes. I’ve enjoyed the game despite its flaws and I’m happy we’ll still be able to play offline solo but Redfall will ultimately live on as a cautionary tale.
This game is another example of why you should never hire someone who doesn't love to play video games to run a video game company. They're terrible at it.
Plenty of games are great and ALSO make money, its wild to me that they cant figure it out by now. Looking at EA, ubisoft, etc that have constant flops supported by juggernaut titles
The devs deserve credit for pushing out the final update, it improved on the game a good bit. The elder vampires were a cool idea, but it's also why I stopped playing. I completed everything up to the Hollow Man and was going to clear a final nest on the map, and found an elder vampire that was bugged and couldn't be killed. I got really annoyed and never returned to it after that. It is not balanced for single player and is still pretty buggy, but it's leagues better than it used to be. It could've been great with a few more updates and matchmaking, I can't get any friends to play it. I might return to it, because I did have some fun with it. I would say give it a try to anyone on the fence, just be ready for some annoyance
It's annoying that the game is still buggy today and now Arkane Austin was shut down it will never be fixed. The last update was genuinely great, enjoyed the Elder Nests and Community Standing, but everything needed more work to make the game great. Redfall had a lot of potential that will never be realised now, it's a shame.
1 hour for something that can be answered in one sentence : "Zenimax was managed by morons who wanted in on the looter shooter game as a service train, so they asked a single player studio to develop something that was absolutely not their forte".
Actually that just fits the entire modern gaming landscape for the better part of the last decade. "[Publisher] was managed by morons who wanted in on the [trend], so they asked a studio to develop something that was absolutely not their forte".
All of the Arkane dev's should leave and start their own company...their talent is amazing...all of their games are masterpieces :) they could do a Kojima and all of their existing fans would support them...

Loved Prey.
Prey was pretty great, but I'm certainly not going to play the reboot. It doesn't seem to have anything in common with the real Prey.

I still enjoy this. It plays really well after the updates. The atmosphere is dope. Wish we got more content for it.
This video is great. Interesting and informative, but also funny as hell. The cutaway to referees when discussing matchmaking had me crackin up.

It just stinks that 1 bad game was enough for Microsoft to damn Arkane while 343 gets to continue turning Halo from a trend setter to a trend chaser.

It's amazing how many corporations are managed by Morons and get away with it for decades
I paid $20 for the game 5 momths ago. Its meh... fun for 5 hours then its boring. Feels empty and still missing 70% content.
Absolutely stunning quality and analysis from a criminally underwatched channel.
Keep it up, excited to see the day you pop off!
Unless the people with the money trust the developers to make them more money without forcing trends on them, this will keep happening.
the game had nothing to do with good old vampire hunting. Sad because they made a quite impressive city.

Plandemic
Dishonored is boring as shit
Obviously you don't like immersive Sims then
