I'm pretty sure that the reason Discord joined tirek was because he thought the ponies were manipulating him.
I respect the way Twilight stands up for Discord even if he was part of the problem. That every time warms my heart.

The funny thing is discord turn makes sense in one regard.
He thought that he essentially had discovered a friend that was a better fit for him than anyone else.
He thought that he was making a genuine friendship with Terik and in doing so gained a friend who wouldn’t constrain him who wouldn’t tell him that he’s not allowed to do things.
He wasn’t entirely sure so he continued to help him gain magic, but he was always waiting for the other shoe drop. But the Centar gave him the necklace. He thought that it was a genuine gift, and that it truly meant that he was his friend. That’s why he gave him the only information that he was holding from him.
And it’s why that he genuinely did not see the betrayal coming.

@@warriorcatkitty my favorite detail about this particular episode is actually a comment made by the writers when they were making the episode they had a posted note on their whiteboard when it came to this finale, that specifically said twilight is not allowed to punch Terik.
And I find that hilarious.
Not to mention the other ponies treated him as a pet that they would put down under any circumstances if he were to misbehave. Discord’s betrayal makes sense imo
Exactly my thoughts he thought he could have his cake and eat it too by having a friend who would let him have all the chaos he would want while having a friend. I also think Tirek hit a nerve with Discord describing his friendship as a new imprisonment. He probably thought that it was.
@@davidpescitelli8004 it all comes from the line that he said that was quickly thrown back at him:
“ surely you saw this coming?”
Because other than Fluttershy, the rest treated him with barely contained contempt.
The entire episode where he pretended to be sick, was as a test to see if twilight actually cared enough to try and look for a cure for.
(he didn’t know about the tatsool worm)
So when he comes across someone, he thought could be a genuine kindred spirit. He was still hesitant until the necklace at which point he decided to fully put his chips with the centaur, throwing away his friendship with fluttershy but commenting on how it was obvious that this was going to happen because he thought that it genuinely was that they would all get sick of him and want nothing to do with him anymore.
So when Terik turns on him it genuinely surprised him because he didn’t realize that he had replaced a genuine friendship with a toxic one.
The funny and sad thing is, that’s not even a fantasy element. There are people who genuinely think they find kindred spirits only to find out that they threw away their genuine friendships for bad ones.
That’s why, when the phrase is thrown back at him, he genuinely was surprised.
It doesn’t help that he’s used to be the one who tricks people he’s not used to being on the receiving end of deception.
The finale was shocking. The fight was awesome. I feel bad for Twilight that she loses the Golden Oak Library. Tirek is one of the toughest villians in the show

Twilight in this episode understands forgiveness, it's something you give when it's need not when it's deserved. You earn forgiveness after you get it.
You asked if Tirek got sent to hell, low key YES. Tartarus is the Greek/Roman Hell.
Also Tirek is an OG MLP reference he is the first Antagonist of the very first MLP animated special from the 80's.

Start of season: The Elements Of Harmony - the simple answer to the problem of villains like Discord - get taken away.
Following that, every one of the Mane Six has to ask, "how does my Element apply when simple solutions no longer work?"
Rarity has to ask "What does Generosity mean, in a world where selfish people will abuse your generosity?"
Applejack has to ask "What does Honesty mean, when a white lie is improving someone's life?"
And in the end, Twilight has to ask "Who is my Friend?" and answers "Everyone. The way of Harmony means treating everyone like a friend - even the asshole who betrayed me".
id argue that her realization was that friendship and magic are synonymous. gonna be real i dont quite understand her ephiphany nor discords but something like that.
@@jojo-xk8ri Not just synonymous, but Twilight realizes that (in this world) friendship is the most powerful magic of all. She evens says exactly that when they all confront Tirek with it.
The fight with Tirek was genuinely awesome and a fun payoff to the friendship items. Discord was fun

I think that it's super fitting for Discord to have a setback at this point in the series, because we all doubted he was ever truly reformed before and being tempted to have total free reign with his magic again for his character just makes so much sense. Say what you want about him, but I just like that he took time to truly change throughout the series, especially once he realised how much he valued -Fluttershy- his friendships. At least, I like it better than being blasted by a rainbow and suddenly being perpetually good.
Equestria Daily did an interview with one of the FiM directors, Jim Miller, where they asked him about the "national brony landmark being blown up and replaced with a literal giant middle finger". He said the castle and its design came from Hasbro's toy department, so they came up with the 6 keys so the castle feels earned instead of coming out of nowhere. And they decided to destroy the library for the emotional impact, since they couldn't kill off characters in this show. And also to justify Twilight actually moving into the castle. In fact in the next season there's a whole episode about... well, you'll see.
His whole interview is fascinating with how the behind the scenes relationship between the toys/corporate and the show goes, and how these story decisions come to be.
That's one real strong point of this show: working around the constraints of the merch department's demands and actually making something good out of it.
They want a new pink princess so that they can actually make a show-accurate Celestia toy instead of arbitrarily making her pink? Introduce Cadance and give her a meaningful emotional connection to Twilight.
They wanna make a princess toy of Twilight?
Make a story about Twilight earning her wings by performing a great feat, followed by a season-long story arc of her feeling conflicted about whether she deserves it.
They want a new castle playset?
Have the library, one of the most iconic landmarks in the show destroyed in a truly shocking moment and have the 6 keys arc to make the castle feel earned, and have a follow up episode to genuinely show the impact of the library's destruction.
Glad to see this Season 4 finale showed callbacks to previous episodes with each Mane Six member holding an object they received as a token of appreciation from whomever ponies they’ve helped. They were beneficial in their cause against Lord Tirek!
Twilight vs Tirek was the most hype thing I ever saw in MLP history! It was like Dragon Ball Z but with ponies! I showed it to my friends who didn't watch MLP and their brains actually short-circuited!!! It made no sense to them or to me either!
When I first watched it I felt like I was making a shocked expression, why, damn, look at that explosion animations and all those movements.
They jumped from a cute pony story in season 1 to a season with lore and an entitled fight

THE VALIDATION!!! What for me was the moment watching this show REALLY came into focus with being actually AWESOME! There were plenty of moments here and there with episodes, but this felt HUGE!!! >3
This season 4 finale is one of my favourite finale battles this Twilight vs Tirek was like a straight up anime fight 😂.

"Twilight's Kingdom" parts 1 and 2 are another one of my all time favorite season finales in the FIM series! It was interesting to see what Tirek looked like in the G4 artstyle, Fun fact: Tirek is yet another leftover character from previous mlp generations G1 I believe.
And to this day, The fight scene between Tirek and Twilight is still considered to be one of the most badass scenes in the entire fim series which it is!
And it kinda wasn't a surprise that Tirek even betrayed Discord which was deserved since Discord betrayed the Mane 6 which was a classic double, Double cross scene. And even though Discord deserved it when Tirek took his magic away at least he seemed to somewhat learn a lesson from it.
I instantly loved "You'll Play Your Part" and "Let the Rainbow Remind You" they became two of my favorite season 4 songs! In fact I found "Play Your Part" to be a somewhat relatable song since it was about Twilight having trouble trying to figure out how she fits into Equestria's royal hierarchy, Because you know when you're new at something it's hard to figure out what place you have in it and all that.
And finally, Twilight's new castle was totally badass too. Though it still sucks that the Golden Oaks Library was destroyed. A lot of people in the fandom were really upset about that, Especially since the Castle of Friendship was only created as a for Hasbro to say "Buy our toys" but still.

An epic finale, with one hell of a fight! yeah, this still stands as one of the best finales of the show. You also don't quite get what a HUGE deal bringing in Tirak was, he is THE legacy MLP villain, the Big Bad of the very first MLP special back in Gen 1, and pretty much treated as Pony Satan in most fanfics to use him prior to him actually showing up in canon. And they made him not only a powerful threat, but also a clever one, able to talk his way through a problem as easily as just smash it. Yeah, this finale was epic.
Tirek and Scarpan (along with spike actually) were characters from the original mlp tv special that aired in the 80's. At this point, much of the Brony fandom had taken interest in past mlp media, so the return of Tirek was a pretty big deal at the time. As a first generation mlp fan (I was born in the early 80's), it was pretty exciting for us too to get some acknowledgement from the show writers.
I clicked on this so fast lmaooo. From here on out is my fav era of mlp g4. Obviously seasons 1-4 are special, but now we get to expand! Very pumped for the season 5 premier eps!! Very pumped for just about everything now actually haha
Fun Fact: Some of the songs in MLP have longer versions. This includes the intro song too.

From this point on the show goes up one notch.

Season 4 I’ll always be the season thats my season. The first season I watched. But season 5 is also just amazing. It was the first season I followed episode by episode as they came out. And ITS UP NEXT!!!

6:09 He says to "ask luna" but in the comics we learn that Discord put a protection spell on himself so even Luna can't enter without his permission.
He gets nightmares and then allows Luna to enter to fix it bc discord performs magic when he is having nightmares. XD

Best season finale in my opinion. The ones to come are still good, and this one has its flaws, but you cannot beat that fight scene between Twilight and Tirek. It's epic!
idk if anyone mentioned it, but Tirek and Scorpan are actually antagonists from the OG My Little Pony! Specifically the movie My Little Pony: Rescue at Midnight Castle. I don't think/know if they ever appeared in the main series.

I always felt that Discord was kinda justified in turning on the ponies (except for Fluttershy). He genuinely put an effort into being a friend to everyone after the reform. Even if he was weird and kinda annoying to them, he WAS trying. But Fluttershy was the ONLY one to try to connect with him and be a friend right back. Tired was also right that they only treated him like an errand boy. Fluttershy was literally Discord’s only real friend, so, although it sucks that he turned on Fluttershy, is it weird or even wrong that he had zero loyalty to the ponies?

discord was planning something, he knew about they keys because he marked them in the book for twilight. He knew twilight didn’t have her key so he planned his betrayal so she could get it and open the box. discord knows tirek from their past, we know this because of the way tirek greeted discord and there is a comic confirming this. so discord was there when tirek and his brother attacked the first time and he also knew the type of person tirek is. With this knowledge he was able to devise a plan to get twilight the key.
06:87 - Ya know, with Fluttershy not being that easily turned in Discord's debut, and being his "one and only friend" in his return, lots of fans have shipped these two (despite the millennial age gap)... and maybe this hints to the studio pandering to this...?

Imagine having the power to do anything, but if you did "anything" you would upset someone, maybe even several someones. But holding back feels like you are trapped, you aren't using all of you, possibly lacking some identity, feeling smaller than "THE MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE!" If someone offered you the chance to break out without consequences, do something you've always dreamed of, it would be tempting. Once a habit, could regress?

I really don't like the Rainbow Power forms. Rarity's mane looks like it's trying to eat her head. Other than that, I love this season finale. The fight between Twilight and Tirek is epic, especially in a franchise that tends to shy away from fight scenes. And Discord's arc was really well-done. Since being released he has been sort of playing along at being good, but this is when he truly understands what it means to be a good friend. Oh, and there is an extended version of the "Let the Rainbow Remind You" song if you're interested in listening to it.

Ah yes, the best season finale, or maybe tied with season 5 finale. (Not counting the series finale) What's great is that the next season starts the Map arc and then we'll be getting to see various parts of Equestria. On top of that, we're getting the best pony soooooon! Sadly, the price is losing the treebrary and getting a middle finger crystal castle.
I think this and season 2 are the best finale tho

In Discord's defense, _only_ Fluttershy ever seemed to truly care about him. I don't blame him for this.
BUT WHAT IF!!! That _Whole thing_ was his plan so that Twilight could get her key to the box? He knew what he was doing when he gave her the medallion.
Discord isn't entirely blameless. While the rest of the girls could have been nicer, Discord gave no reason for them to trust him. Afterall, his vines kidnapped Celestia and Luna, nearly killed the Tree of Harmony, withheld information from the girls to save Equestria, and intended to ruin Twilight and Cadance's day for selfish reasons.

So a common theory from the Fandom that I've always enjoyed and personally believed is that Discord didn't really betray the ponies. We know that Discord is a manipulator at heart, without his "betrayal" Twilight wouldn't get her key lesson in Friendship. The others had their elements put to the test and were given an object to represent it, Twilight never did until now. Discord also gives Twilight the book of lessons they've learned and bookmarked the important parts ahead of time.
At the end looking at everything as a whole it comes off that Discord planned it all from the start. He knows Twilight very well and it shows time and again so playing the game and manipulating pieces to go where they need to be is exactly his MO. Playing up the part of betrayal and letting everyone believe he betrayed them helped sell the lesson
I'm not a fan of that theory because it kinda cheapens Discord's character arc. You also have to remember that the lessons also had to make someone learn from the Mane Six as well such as Coco, Silver Shill, Cheese Sandwich, etc. Discord pretending to betray the ponies flies in the face of the lesson.

That fight between Twilight and Tirek is the main scene I show some people who don’t really care for MLP. I advertise it by saying they go full Dragon Ball, and while it doesn’t get them to watch it, they are enticed by it.

Every time one of the mane 6 gets an epiphany, there are colours to help them see it, what if they never saw those colors? Would they have never gotten those items? Would Tyrek rule the land?
Rainbow saw a rainbow when light went through a pitcher of water, pinkie saw streamers/confetti, for flutter the breezies wing combined with the light also created a rainbow, for applejack the pan of water was rainbow, and for rarity a rainbow reflected off some metal tape. What if someone travelled back in time to ensure those rainbows would show up so they get the keys and live up to their elements?
