- When riding BMX learning to work on your bike is an absolute must so today we decided to do a video on fixing a flat tire something that happens all the time in the BMX world. For this video we decided to go two different ways we have BK a mechanic at my bike shop show you guys how a professional change the flat tire and we also have big boy who is not by any means a professional mechanic show you how he changes the flat tire! We figured that this way we can show you all what to do and what not to do when changing your flat tire! BK can change a flat in world record time big boy on the other hand Big Boy can manage to get a flat in world record time! In this video the guys take their own tools and show you exactly what they use them for and in big boy's case even the Oreos and the helmet!

O Herk you can just use your hands to pry it off that's how I've always done it. Avoid anything metal because you
can damage your rim.

I personally never take the tire off the rim just one side and then feel for everything then stick the tube in then just pop the one side of the tire back on. :) Again great to see Scotty back in the vids.

bk doesn't try he probably tries with 15% of what he has and goes at his own pace big boy doesn't focus maybe A.D.D. but loses track and then feels pressured then resulting him to rush his way to complete the task he is doing as fast as he can because he gets anxious. NOT A DOCTOR DIDN'T RESEARCH JUST KNAAAAWLEEDGE. if big boy can stop pressuring himself he would have a greater chance succesding even though he already does keep up the youtube grind and recover fast Scotty!!!

BK's methods are great, except the whole "tighten until it's almost fucked" mentality. Besides the risk of stripping the thread, over-tensioning nuts and bolts and cause them to fail without warning, it can also wear or deform the thread which can have long-term negative effects.
Use chain tensioners to hold the wheel straight and just snug those nuts up with a medium grunt, or use a torque wrench and measure it. BMX axles are considerably more forgiving than other bikes, but as components keep getting lighter, they usually become more delicate too, so watch out for that too.
Damaged frames come to mind. Over tightening something can result in failure even more so than wheels falling off like you mentioned. Wheels only fall if you're a total rookie and don't tighten them on at all, but a safe amount of torque and regular checking is enough to keep it working fine for years. Use a torque wrench if you really want to, or better yet, use chain tensioners.

Tire levers are the best things, flat head screw drivers damage the rim! Tire levers don't damage the rim! #StandWithScotty
Ive broken plenty of tire levers hope they got better since ive used them. But ya flat heads suck you use a ton of better options an extension works nice.

Bk is smart, when u come into their shop to get your tire fixed he tightens the wheel so much that when u try to fix ur next flat ur self u can't do it, so u have to go back to the shop and pay them more! Bk is a businessman!

Great job BK. You are pro bro. Keep workin' Chaz you'll get this. :) To: Scotty and crew. I crashed my BMX last Sunday right before the Superbowl. During the crash I hit my head on the pavement really hard. I skinned the side of my face around my right eye and my head hurt really bad when I got up. It was like someone was shaking my head really hard and fast. I had blurry vision for 10-15 seconds. Since the crash I have developed a black eye and bruised right side of my face. I can't thank you guys and Bikeman4u enough for leading by example and wearing your helmets. I always remember Bikeman's quote "Safety takes no holiday". I am so glad I was wearing my helmet when I crashed. I almost didn't put it on for some stupid reason, but thank goodness I did. I suffered a mild concussion which would have been a lot worse if I hadn't been wearing it. Guys thank you so much :( . You all are by far the greatest role models for us all. I used to think helmets were stupid looking. So I put cool stickers on it to make it cool. LOL. Hope you are enjoying the road pendants I sent. Take care guys... Jason S with the CRX :)

We've all used flatheads before. To be honest, as a kid I never even took the tire completely off the rim. I only took half of it off, which was enough to get the old tube out and put another in.
I do have tire levers now and they're awesome.

i learned in the mechanic school too change a tire/tube even without the tire levers it needs some technic but you are faster and safer because you can still pinch a tube with tire levers (sorry for bad englisch) greetings from switzerland btw.
Wish I could work with Bk and all with bikes love doing that it's so much fun
in my younger days I got a flat tire. We was 4 miles ftom.home. went to gas station stuffed tire with paper towels and it worked good enough to get home riding it. it was in the late 60s
So today I'm running a 29 inch inner tube, really good choice. Tangled chain is the worst, I've sat roadside fixing one for 15 minutes after my wheel came off.

Also BMX seem fun to work on. On a mtb you have much more moving parts and so on. But fixing a tire in a non big boy way is still pretty easy ;)

I used to use Phillips head screw driver when I took my tubes out and would muscle them back on but I was also like 13 and didn’t care. Now I skate and I’m glad bc bikes are waaayyy too high maintenance

If you're ever in a jam if you're big boy or someone else. Obviously using
Tools isn't ideal for getting a tire off.
But if you happen to have a small
Or medium size crestent wrench
You can use the closed side to
Get the tire off a bit saver than
A sharped tool. As well
You can use the wrenching
End if you have some pressure
You need to let out. You
Can press the valve as you
Would with the bottom side of
A tire lever. Of course levers
Are the best thing since that's
They're job but we are humans
And forget things. So that is
A better way to get it off you
Have more control over the
Wrench being closed and
Having the circle at the bottom
And you can pry it without
Having to worry as much.
It still can damage the tube
Or tire if you go to hard and fast. B
Ut if you are gentile it's a good
Cheat code for a moment's notice.
Since it's not sharp and pointy...
i've used flatheads in the past and never had issues. but if your worried about using a flathead you could always wrap the end in electrical tape or just grind the sharp corners off

i work as a tyre fitter, i can fit car tyres in less than 30 seconds i know ive timed myself when i have to fit small tyres or bike tyres it takes me bit longer but god damn bk can fit bike tyres quick

Pedros levers are a dream to work with. they dont snap in half within a month of use like park tool ones. my pedros levers are nearly 10 years old.
