DETERMINATION OF SULFITES IN WATER SAMPLES

A iodide/iodate mixture reacts with sulfuric acid. If sulfite is present the iodine is reduced back to iodide. The addition of the iodide/iodate mixture goes on until no more sulfite exists in the sample and the iodine gives a blue color with starch.
