  • In this webinar, Dr Jennifer Epstein presents the first in a 2 part series on toileting and Fragile X syndrome. Part A focuses on children to about aged 10. Part B will focus on children over the age of 10 through to adulthood.
Part A of this two part workshop series offers families and carers helpful information to support individuals with FXS in building toileting skills for people ages 10 and younger. Dr Epstein reviewed several approaches to toilet practice, discussed prerequisite skills and reviewed a toilet sequence. Dr Epstein provided an overview of common modifications for communication, sensory, motor, physiology and cognitive delays. An aim of the webinar was to help participants understand the type of approach may be most successful for their child based on individualized factors.
Dr Epstein began the webinar presenting data from a study that showed the different toileting skill development trajectories for female and male children, through early childhood to teens. (the FORWARD study of Fragile X families in the US)
Part B of the webinar is scheduled for 2 December 2023, to cover children aged 10 years and over, through adulthood - addressing ongoing or occasional challenges with these skills.
This webinar was co-presented by Fragile X Association of Australia and Fragile X Society of New Zealand.
The webinar was hosted and produced by ‪@albaprime‬
