Mineral Wells is a really cool state park. All the rocks and climbing are really cool. That trip looked really fun. I bet the bike trips are pretty cool. Like the idea of being able to camp and travel a little farther on the bike. I like the bike videos. Its different. Keep them up.
It's a lot of fun and something different to mix things up a little. The trails at MWSP were closed but you can't ride a bike on the trail to the primitive sites anyway so I didn't mind my campsite. There was no one out there either. That was on a Monday and Tuesday so I got my pick of where to stay. I have a few hikes planned but I'll definitely be doing more of this. That fatbike is a conversation starter everywhere I go too.
They are converting the old rail line that runs through here into a trail. Of course, every body wants their way on who is allowed on. Thank you for taking us on a bike ride. Tony
I know what you mean Sean. This trail is available to hikers, people on horses, and bikes. I've done this trail twice and seen very few people but everyone is very friendly. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend
This looked like an awesome bike trip! That dam crossing was something else. I don't think I have seen one quite like that. Enjoyed thte video Tony! Thanks for sharing your trip!
Yeah, that dam was crazy. I wonder what the other side facing the water looks like. It was to be more substantial than the road side I would think because that's holding back the whole lake. I'll go back this summer and check that out. (Curious minds) Lol even if it was just an overnight it was a fun trip. Thanks Chris.
Thank you Wallace. It was a blast. That 27 degrees that morning was nothing compared to the Polar Vortex that made the north a deep freeze. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. Have a great weekend
I’d like to see more fatbike vids Tony! What a wonderful trail and place! The old rock building and whatnot are right up my alley. And barely a soul along the way. Perfect! Thanks for taking us along!
What winter "we do have" is a great time to go and I love the old buildings from the Civilian Conservation Corps (1930s) Thanks and I hope you have a great weekend. 👍
I've really enjoyed my fat bike trips. It's a lot of fun and adds a whole new level of the outdoors. I have a Yeti mountain bike that just sits now because this is just plain fun ! Thanks Justin
It is pretty fun Steve. And the way I have my bike rigged, I don't have to carry anything. It's all on the bike. I say the fat bike is fat and slow, like me. Lol Thanks 😆
Michelle cracked up when she saw me in that boat. Hahaha ya gotta have fun. It is fun but doing it on a fat bike is fat and slow. That's OK though, I am too these days. 😆 Thanks
I had it swept out from under me in a similar place so I was butt puckering careful. Lol The problem with that spillway is if it ever happened you might not quit sliding until you went over the bottom edge. Thanks for watching Doug and all the best brother, Tony
It's crazy huh ? The tires are so buoyant if seem videos of people letting them float in ponds. Upside down of course 😆 I've had it swept out from under me on a creek crossing with running water and slick rock, so I'm really careful now. I don't crash as pretty as I did when I was young.
We'll be headed to Houston for 2 more operations on our granddaughter so I'm taking advantage of a little time. It sure was nice. As always I appreciate your comment and watching. Thanks, Tony
Enjoyed the video. Last fall, my youngest daughter and I hiked from the Mineral Wells trail head to the Weatherford trail head, with an overnight at Lake Mineral Wells State Park. I highly recommend the patty melt at the Garner store!
That sounds like a great time with your daughter. Thanks for the heads up on the patty melt. Last summer when I stopped there it was really crowded so I got Gatorade and left. Maybe it was so crowded because of the patty melt. Haha Winter time is a good time to be at the park Joe. You can have your pick of campsites. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it and have a great weekend.
What a great trail to bike on and 16 bridges, gives a good excuse to stop on everyone for a breather. I liked the nice thick tyres on your bike and the main reason I gave up on my mountain bike was I was sick to death of getting flat tyres. Just as well you saw that low branch just after 13 minutes mind but got to say, what a morning to wake up too, looked great and great way to keep healthy. Cheers Alan
Hi Alan. What you didn't see was the large overhead limb that jammed my head into my neck when I rolled over that big rock. Hahaha That hurt 😆 I haven't done much bikepacking but it's a lot of fun and adds a whole new level of the outdoors. Thanks for hanging in there and watching. Cheers my friend, Tony
Great trip - that ride across the spillway is something else wow! fun times at the lake, nice job "rowing" there haha... 27 is cold ugh... but the glass lake sure is nice.. thanks for taking us with you!
I had this bike swept out from under me once in about 6 or 7 inches of water, but the current was really swift and the bottom very slick. My butt had a tight grip on the seat for sure. Hahaha My old Golite tent closes up pretty tight and I used my old Golite Z10 sleeping bag so once I got inside I was actually pretty warm. I sure was nice having the place to myself. Good to hear from you, and hope you and Roxana are doing well.
Thanks for sharing your adventure with us! That spillway ride had me nervous for you. I really appreciate all the camera placement you do to catch all the views and angles. You have a real director's eye. I vote yes on more Fat Bike videos.
Thanks Steve. I may have had a little of the seat sucked up into unmentionable places crossing the spillway. Hahaha I've had it swept out from under me before and caught me totally off guard. I've been enjoying my fat bike when I get the chance and I appreciate your comment.
Hi Trina. Good to hear from you and thanks for the encouragement. It's a whole different experience, but fun. Oh, I'll still hike, and hope I always do. I recently did a hike and was videoing with my phone. The trail was extremely rough because of the amount of rain we had during the fall, and not much maintenance. Ĺarge downed trees, washouts, you name it. There are no videos on this trail and I had planned this for a while. 10 miles in I dropped my phone in a deep rushing creek. (YEAH) lost what video I had not to mention all my contacts, info and communication. The forest was flooded in the low spots and it was tough but otherwise a cool place. I'm keeping that location under wraps until I can get back out there. I hope all is well and this weekend I'll be working on a tag video I was tagged in. If you don't mind, you are going to be one of the three people I tag at the end of it. Take care, Tony
Bluecollar Backcountry oh no! There’s nothing worse than dropping your phone, except maybe dropping it in a creek! Ugh! I love these adventures you are going on. You go whizzing down this downhills and find myself holding my breath! I can’t believe you go that fast! I would be honored to be tagged! Thanks so much for thinking of me! I always look forward to your next adventure. Things may be settling down here so I’m hoping to get out for a hike soon.
Love seeing the trail ! Looks well taken care and it has water! Lol i’ll be heading up there the last weekend of February for a hike. Wish Caprock was like that! 20miles ant to bad. Can’t wait to get out there now ! Talk about wind lol can’t escape it lol
No flats either Eli. Lol Makes for a great bike trail. Yeah, it seems like every time I go somewhere the wind has to be crazy. But it's better than not being out !
Thanks John. It's a pretty nice route from Weatherford to Mineral Wells and I had my pick of campsites this time of year. I hope you get the chance to try it.
What a great adventure you had there Tony. Fat tire biking is popular on the snow here in the Park city area but I’m not sure if people combine that with winter camping. I like your footage from the bike in motion (partly with a go pro chest mount?) Looks like the bugs were not an issue near the water this time of year either
Yeah, that was a lot of fun Amos. I did use the chest mount quite a bit. With the 30 MPH sustained winds, bugs were no issue as all. Made for a chilly but nice night that close to the water. Thanks for taking the time to watch.
Love the bike videos Tony! Would like to see your thoughts on packing the bike vs packing for a hike. Thanks for all the work you put into posting these. Scott
Thanks Scott. That sounds like a great idea for a video. I have two more I need to put out but that's definitely an idea I will be thinking about. I appreciate your comment and taking the time to watch. Have a great weekend 👍
Hey Mike. Good to hear from you buddy. That was a lot of fun. That bike matches my style perfectly. Fat and slow. Hahaha It's a whole different adventure but I really enjoy it. I'll never quit hiking but this adds a new dimension to getting out there. Might even work off some of this belly I've been growing. Lol Take care and have a great weekend.
It's a blast Moz. Things have worked out with family health issues where I haven't been able to take off on long hiking trips so this fills in with something I enjoy and can do it near home. I bet you'd enjoy it too.
Even though that's the road, there was just enough old moss or algae showing in the cracks that made it kind of butt puckering. Lol I've had it swept out from under me in other places so I was really careful. Thanks for watching and commenting, ATB Tony Oh yeah, I'll be working on the tag video this weekend.
wonderful, all I want to know is how did you get Willy on that bike with you. And even more so how did you get him to sing while doing do so ? Enjoyed thanks for sharing.
Good looking place to ride like these fatbike videos I watch old man fatbike that's where I found out about you think I live about 80 miles from Jen's I live about 10 miles north of Fort Lenorerd Wood y'all have got me thinking about a Farley 7
Hi Brad. Thanks for stopping by. I think this was my first video with my fatbike. It's kinda funny now. You live in a great part of Missouri. I have a sister in St Louis and I was there last year staying with her and was going to hook up with Jens at Echo Bluff State Park for a video and I got a stomach virus or food poisoning (FROM MY SISTERS COOKING) the night before. I still tried to drive there but was throwing up all the way down I-44 before I finally turned back. What a bummer. I still want to visit Echo Bluff. My sister said it's cold and snowing up there. Be careful and take care. Atb, Tony
Awesome ride, my friend. Great video too, entertaining and fun to watch. That is a nice bike you got there. I've never rode a fat bike...how does it compare to "normal" tire size? I'm sure the bike is a little heavier but I bet it rolls good once you get it moving? These old rail trails, in my opinion, down right suck for hiking on foot, but riding them on a bike is one of the most fun things you can do, and being able to camp makes it even better. Throw in the historical stuff and you have a perfect adventure.
That fat bike fits my style of riding Rashid. Fat and slow ! Hahaha I have a Yeti full suspension but this is my favorite. It's just fun. On hard pack you can air the tires up and it rolls surprisingly good. In the soft terrain you can lower the pressure way down and the tires stick really well. Mine is geared really low with a 28 tooth chain ring and is easy to pedal, just a slow top end which is ok with me. It weighs 36 lbs and I'm fixing to try going tubeless with it to see how much more weight that saves, plus the mesquite trees out here are keeping me busy fixing flats. Haha. I sure have no regrets buying this one and hope to do a 1 year review soon. Thanks for watching and commenting buddy, I appreciate it
No, it's not an Ebike John. Just a fat bike. It has 26 x 4.00 tires but the gearing makes it easy to pedal and at around 20 psi the tires roll pretty good. It just doesn't have the top end speed. Thanks ok, I'm in no hurry. Fat and slow like me. Hahaha Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Hey Fernbark. My left knee is pretty much shot too so that's one 9f the reasons I like the fat bike so much. It's geared really low and of the 11 speeds I can always find a comfortable pace. Thanks for watching buddy.
Looks like your enjoying the fat bike , do you find it harder to peddle than a regular tire mnt bike ? ive got a 29er and like to bigger rims was just curious about the spongy tires on a fat bike making it harder to peddle.
Yeah I've been having a good time with the fat bike. It has Sram 1 x 11 gearing. The cassette is 11 to 42 tooth but has a 28 tooth chain ring so the gearing is pretty low. On hard surfaces the tires can be aired up to 20 to 30 lbs making it roll really easy, you just don't have much top end speed. That's OK though, that makes it fat and slow like me. Hahaha I have a 27.5 mountain bike but this is the one I play with all the time. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend.
Hi grinch. There are two RV parks near the trail in Garner that may be willing to let you camp overnight. Back Acre RV Park 940-682-7701 & West End RV Park 940-682-4694. I've never stayed at either one but most RV Parks are willing to put up tent campers for a night. Also Garner Store and Cafe is a good place to eat and resupply if you need to. Everyone there seems friendly. Texas Parks and Wildlife has control over the trail and hours on the trail are 30 min before sunrise and 30 min after sunset. I've had people ask about stealth camping and although it's not "allowed" (That's why they call it stealth. LOL) There are a few places but not many as it all borders fenced farm and ranch land. I hope this helps and you get the chance to hike it. Thanks for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it. ATB, Tony
Good suggestion. Ill reach out to them. Our only other option is gonna be to take 2 vehicles and camp nearby at the State Park or at the park near the Weatherford trailhead and drive back to Garner the next day. Shuttling ourselves. Lol. But either way, hope to hike it soon. Thanks for the great info!
Yeah, it's a great trail. I've ridden it a few times from Weatherford to the old train station, restrooms, and pavilion at the end. I wish the Northeast Texas Trail was as nice. Thanks for watching and commenting. Atb, Tony

Crossing the dam must give you an uneasy feeling. That day one wind didn’t help. Nice trip brother! Thanks!

Cool adventure Tony! I didn't consider the fat tires hydroplaning... that could be bad. #bustyourassgetyourstuffwet Ha Ha Ha!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

1 or 2 things to add to my bucket list. To do a hike or bike ride with you.
I try to always be up for an adventure. You can reach me at Papathiker@gmail.com if you want to do either.

Lemme know next time you plan one of those trips man.
Ok but I'll have to tie a few cinder blocks and a goat or two to your back wheel so I can keep up. 😆 where you been ?
wonderful, all I want to know is how did you get Willy on that bike with you. And even more so how did you get him to sing while doing do so ? Enjoyed thanks for sharing.

Good to have you back Tony. By the way is that an E Bike you peddling? Sure looks nice.

Just kidding. Ain't nothing gonna keep you down.
I like that bike. Wish I could still ride, but the knees are shot.

Hey Tony!! Loved the video. Ive been wanting to hike this trail. Is there anywhere to camp in Garner that you know of? Love your videos!
