The Bells of Shenfield, Essex

The ring of six bells at Shenfield were cast in 1911 by John Warner & Sons, and are hung in a cast iron frame of the same year. The tenor weighs 7-0-20cwt and is tuned to Ab. The tower is a rather impressive wooden structure, and the construction of which is clearly visible from inside the church. The ringing room is accessed via two flights of very steep stairs, and a very narrow alleyway along the inside of the roof of the tower. The ringing room is a magnificent maze of beams, which you have to climb over to reach each rope. The tower movement is rather impressive too, and from within the ringing room, you can see and hear the metal tie rods creaking!
A very memorable experience and if you are in the area, would be well worth a visit. The bells are very easy to ring and strike.

you're certainly not wrong about the tower movement, even in the nave you can see (and hear !) the timbers visibly creaking if it weren't for the girders (which where installed after a woodworm attack in 1927) I'm quite sure the whole structure would collapse like a ton of bricks!. for what they are they're not a bad little six although I do seem to recall the 2nd being very close to one of the girders, it looks to me like someone has re roped it onto the other side of the wheel!.

They were rehung very recently with the bells flipped around to swing differently so the ropes full differently. However the tower moves more now

Have you rung in Halesowen they’ve got eight bells of Saint Johns and Saint Giles and in Birmingham I don’t know if you know that place but it’s really good. I think you will love it in Birmingham spell central spell Central line mean😂
