Linet, that looks like Callaloo. We make it a lot in the Caribbean, and I still love it today! Oh, and the skin of tomatoes is highly acidic and may interfere with some people's stomachs; this is why it is removed. 😊😋🤤 Linet, please be careful with the hot pot and use some kitchen hand towels to lift the pot. 😬🤔 Add some hot pepper! 😋😋Charlow! Blessings.
in zimbabwe we put a pinch of soda and chilli and if its a lot sometimes we drink it before enjoying it with our ugalicalled sadza and that okra we call it derere
Yeah, mixing kunde (cowpea leaves) and okra is delicious. That's how it was done in Nairobi when you couldn't find jute leaves. By the way, the okra you are growing looks like the one sold in the usa as the star of David. Have a fantastic week.
@@Linet_kelinet i am from congo kinshasa please add Aubergin to your food list Aubergin is very important for vegetable fish and any meat you will thank me ❤
I like you both being hardworking, especially your husband, he works hard and enjoys hard with very good appetite. Why did you leave your ripe tomatoes unplucked? If okra is strong, you can blend it in an electric blender, or pound it in a mortar
I was surprised to see the video, I recently cooked jute leaf mixed with Okro from my garden, I made separate tomato stew to eat with the jute and Okro, with yam flour like ugali.❤ I’m Nigerian by the way. Jute and Okro soup is a staple in Nigeria. Very yummy. My Okro flowers are yellow your specie looks reddish.❤
We call jute leaves, Tindingoma in Zambia & we don’t add onion or maybe do now. Onion cuts off some slime. We add bicarbonate soda for flavour with tomatoes 🍅 we do add bean leaves (kachesha) or pumpkin leaves (chibwabwa) yum yum. Here in 🇨🇦 in very expensive in frozen state 😊
Unlike West Africans, it seems that Kenyans do not like slimy foods. I watched the YT video of a Kenyan lady who lives in Lagos with her family, saying that you don't eat snails in Kenya. I would say that you are missing a lot, because snail is rich in essential minerals which are needed by the body in blood formation. The slimy liquid is used in the cosmetic industry to produce creams which are effective against stretch marks. It's nice that you said you try something different instead of ugali all the time. It was getting boring that most of the Kenyan TH-camrs showcase only ugali on YT, when you have a wide variety of foods in Kenya
@teresaedwards1984 - some things are hard for me to explain in English but l will try. Pafforate a small container( tin or plastic - max of half a litre in size) at the bottom, put a little ash then add water. You let it drip for about 30 minutes depending on the quantity of your jute leaves. Pour about 250 mls in the pan and dilute with about 500 mls of water. You can taste a little on your tongue to get the correct concentration, boil then add your jute leaves. You can leave it to boil for about 15 minutes depending on the quantity of your veges. After this, let it cool to lukewarm then enjoy with cornmeal (ugali) or sweet potatoes if you have. Traditionally, we don't fry at all - no onions or tomatoes. But you can instead add milk. You can get the best ash by burning husks of beans once you dry them properly but the best ash is that of dried banana peals (husks). Just burn them on the open. You will enjoy very slimy vegetables, an experience that will make you go back over and over again. We normally don't mix jute leaves (mrenda) with cow peas. They are cooked separately although mreda will give you best results. Check out one of the videos by Orry k - a friend of Linet & Charlow. Alternatively, their house help, Anita can demonstrate - Linet said she comes from my community. l am not dot com myself, sorry. But kudos to Linet, Charlow and Everlen. I always watch your videos.
Your jute looks as it maybe in the family of spinach, turnip or mustard greens. Here in America some of us fries okra, stew okra with others vegetables. But for the most part in the South and Black community it's a staple in our family to mix them with greens of one choice. Collard Turnip Spinach And some add Kale.

Dont throw the popo Leaf away the best tea, and the jute Leaf can make tea as well. we call Jamaican kallaloo any fruits or vegetables that can eat you can also use the Leaf as tea .
The way I noticed you cut your vegetables and onions in Kenya, don't you think you can easily cut your fingers? You can imagine such a thing happening when cutting salad vegetables and blood spills into the raw vegetables. I think it's nice to use the chopping board
