Segmented Fruit Bowl Pt 3: Turning and Finishing the Bowl

- In this video I turn and finish the segmented fruit bowl I was commissioned to make.
It's turned using a 1/2'" spindle gouge and a round nose scraper, before being sanded to 400 grit, burnished with shavings, oiled and finally finished with Yorkshire Grit, Hampshire Sheen High Gloss on the outside and pure Carnauba Wax on the inside.
It's amazing seeing the various species (Walnut, Maple, Sapele and African Padauk) come to life when the first coat of oil is applied.
I hope you've enjoyed watching this series of videos. If you haven't see the two previous videos relating to this bowl please go back back and watch them.
Many thanks to all my Subscribers for your continued support. Please like and Share this video and my Channel to help it grow.

thank you Harvey. These species are some of my favourites, and they work so well together. A lot of work, but as you say worth all the effort.
Great Looking Bowl. Really enjoyed the video
Thank you
its a great looking piece Nathan, i was a bit doubtfull when you chose to make the changes as i likes the look of the foot of the bowl, but seeing the finished product i agree with your choice, fantastic mate, well done
Trevor Potts thank you Trevor. I should have shown how it looked before I made the changes to the outside, it wasn’t anything major, just my perfectionism coming out. It made all the difference to the final form.
A lovely looking bowl Nathan

Excellent work Nathan. I hope you come back and start making videos again, i see that you stopped several months ago. 👍
I am not familiar with burnishing with shavings - what does that do? Wonderful series thank you
Absolutely gorgeous! Incredible work! That maple ring between the sapele and padauk gave it a little extra. I'm going to have to try to replicate that design for my collection.
In a future project, is there any chance you might could do a bowl that uses purpleheart and maple to contrast, or possibly holly and wenge? Either one would be stunning, or a mix of both could produce amazing results.
thank you Jeff. I agree, it made all the difference in showing off the Padauk rim. I do have some Purple Heart that I am considering using for a segmented project, I've never turned Wenge so if I ever come across any I'll try it too.
