Derek's power lies in that he perfectly blends his influences creating something unique and original. That is very hard to do! And now he is a part of our major influences!
Thanks for this video, Derek! I would have loved to see and hear you play on your Korg Kronos. Maybe you can do on with you wailing on that keyboard. Thanks again!
Never should have been let go in Dream Theater. The band always seemed to talk negatively of Falling into Infinity but that was a great album and he had alot to do with that.
The Trinity/Triton sound unluckily is unreplaceable. I don't like the register of those Nord Leads... I wish Korg has made their relative modern counterparts. Digital keyboards have the same issue of computers, becoming not fully functional after 7-8 years. The Days Derek played the Lines In The Sand intro were the days when he wrote into the Music history. I will never forget it and I'll keep these view until I'll die. Derek Sherinian has brought keyboards to a whole new concept then.
You can really hear the guitar influences in Derek's style, not a typical keyboardist's approach. Kevin Moore, Matt Guillory and of course Jens Johansson all have a fairly open guitar like approach. Jordan Rudess , Vitalij Kuprij and the like (IMO) sound like a keyboardist when they solo as does quite a few others.I spent years soloing on keyboard and trying to get some of that rapid fire licks a'la Gary Moore and George Lynch into my playing. I ended up switching to guitar, wanting to do pinched harmonics and palm muted chugging riffs was too much to bare lol. Still, I have a soft spot for keyboard soloing done right, Derek always does it right. I would be intrigued to know if given the choice would he prefer to play electric guitar like Eddie or play keyboards like Derek. To me, he's a rock guitarist with all the showmanship and personality of one trapped in the keyboard realm.
I really need a video how to create "monster lead" sound (used in "lines in the sand") on Nord keyboard. Please.
The Baddest dude to ever sit behind a set of keys.
Thanks for the love Derek. You're a big inspiration man. Keep creating
🔥🔥🔥Absolutely Masterful🔥🔥🔥
