If the lap desk is made out of solid wood (not MDF or particle board) then I think $88 is reasonable. I do wish it had openings in the back so you can fit charging cords inside the desk for an iPad, etc. Overall I think it’s super cute and functional! 🍁🍂
I compared the Pottery Barn version to the EC Version. PB is made of MDF and the pillow bottom isn’t removable, and it’s $99. EC is made of wood, has the removable pillow bottom which can be used separately and the lap desk without the pillow bottom can be used on a desk surface for storage or a riser, and is $88. Personally I wouldn’t want something like this to be made of cardboard like the drawer set and the desk sets. I’d want it durable.

It looks nice, but I wouldn't trust just magnets to hold stuff inside while I move it around. And who knows how sturdy it is. Color me interested yet wary. I would probably use the pillow part as the lapdesk, with the box itself next to me with supplies.
It is made of actual wood, not MDF or heavy cardboard, so I think it would be durable. The magnets do seem like they could be a bit weak, especially if you’ve got heavier stuff inside. @PlanSarahPlan suggested putting a piece of washi to help keep it closed, but I don’t know if washi would be durable enough. Perhaps a small hinge lock you find at the hardware store would be better?

Just how heavy is it? Once filled up with item and using it with a laptop on it, just how much would it weigh on a person? My laptop weighs a couple pounds, and probably be heavy to have that and the desk sitting on my lap/legs. As other have mentioned already, those magnets do not look like they will keep it closed if you have anything other than a few lightweight items in it. Maybe in another update version things might be changed.

Hey Linda. That’s mostly because I’m plus sized & I’m not working with a lot of lap 🤦🏽♀️ the desk itself stays put pretty well & it’s sturdy. Hope that tidbit helps.
