i had a transcendental experience listening to this album, whilst having sleep deprived hallucinations at 4am after being up for days. it was so beautiful, and for a while i remembered what happiness was and felt no pain. thank you for the music.
Grouper is fascinating between 1-4 am when everything is silent and all you can hear is your slow breathing patterns. When your mind is clear and at the same time, wondering surreal things
Holy shit I haven't seen this since I had an iPod 2 in high school. I had bought it and I used to listen to it to escape my thoughts about a girl and my future. Didn't know 10 years later I would get a suggestion. Thank you..
A tremendous feeling of belonging somewhere, yet at the same time you have never felt this alone and empty. Like when you look up in the sky in a cold November night, those lights so far away, filtering through the fog of your own breathing. Infinite space, wash over me. Bathe me in darkness and shower me in stars. (It's hard to describe what kind of feelings you get from listening Grouper, but at least you can try.)
I did MDMA with this girl, we felt absolutely nothing for a couple hours so decided to go our own ways. I kinda felt like it could be coming up so I sat on a bench for a smoke, listening to some music, quite depressed by the situation.. Somehow all the stars aligned and when this song suddenly came out of nowhere I started feeling really weird. Suddenly she sent me a message she's home now and is definitely feeling it coming up. We talked for 30 seconds and she told me I should come over. This song was playing up to this point. Then Spotify moves on to Star of the Lid - Requiem for Dying Mothers PT. 2 and at this point, walking to her home with that song playing was probably the most euphoria I've felt in recent years. It was crazy. Now I associate these 2 songs necessarily with my MD experience. What a trip
Thank you for the recommendation of the second song. I discovered a very beautiful song the other day, if you want to hear it. I don't know the genre, but it's amazing. It makes you feel so many emotions at once. I was acid when I heard it, and let me say that it was something. It's called "Orange peeler" by Horse Jumper of Love
i miss him. knowing nothing will ever be the same. regardless of how much we both want to go back in time and for everything to return to the way it was. it just cant. and honestly this helps the pain sort of decentralize and permeate over my body and hopefully release it eventually. believing in God helps me. knowing that God’s will and my wants might not be the same. I trust in God’s will over anything tho because I know regardless of how different my desires are from God’s will, God and I are one in the same so God’s will is inherently my will and through deep gratitude, reflection, meditation, and prayer, i can align with the most High.
@@nemcat Many thanks to you for your kind and beautiful words coming from a complete and perfect stranger in the state of the world as cold and harsh as it can be your words are a great comfort and mean more to me then you could ever know. bless your heart and soul. you must be special if you listen to Grouper 💙
I feel like I'm adrift in the ocean, gazing at a star-filled sky and contemplating that that's the same Moon that every person who's ever lived - good or evil, famous or forgotten - has also gazed at.
I was just reading about Vitruvius, an Ancient Rome architect who inspired the Vitruvian man; the well known Da Vinci piece. Then I clicked on this song and started thinking... Romans must've felt like they had achieved the ultimate state of progress and technology, yet, they knew so little compared to how much we know now and their standards were so low. I also feel weird thinking that what we could by now consider ancient (Da Vinci) took inspiration from something that, at his time, was already considered ancient. I can't help but wonder if people from the future will one day look at our current society and think: "Wow, they knew so little...". Wonder what it is we're so oblivious about that will make us look primitive men to their eyes.
A long walk across town. I never see anyone I know. I stop several places along the way to eat or drink. I never see anyone I know. I've gone a little further today, I know my way but not where I am, I still stop for more food or drink. I never see anyone I know. I've found my usual route to be a blur and a smudge. I know the area but not the way, and then not the area, and then I don't see anyone.
a few ebay sellers have the a digipak versions of A/A for sale pretty cheap, thats how I got it, also you can do what I did and save grouper as a saved search and then get in bidding wars and try to get them on vinyl too :)
@Yosef9438 was it by chance my multicolored rain video? :) when youtube doesn't know what to put for suggestions, it shows other videos by the uploader
@katakotia3 hay katakotia3.. I want to ask you somethin. do you know where i can get the whole discography of Grouper? i want to hear every track she had done. even the unfinished thanx
dude, youtube converter? just type it in to google and copy and paste the link, download, then it turns to an mp3 track. Ready for ipod, or burning on to disc etc.
"The Pleiades (/ˈpliː.ədiːz, ˈpleɪ-, ˈplaɪ-/), also known as The Seven Sisters, Messier 45 and other names by different cultures, is an asterism and an open star cluster containing middle-aged, hot B-type stars in the north-west of the constellation Taurus. At a distance of about 444 light years, it is among the nearest star clusters to Earth. It is the nearest Messier object to Earth, and is the most obvious cluster to the naked eye in the night sky." I instantly recognized the image from an old astronomy book, i had as a kid in the 70s. It was some kind of bible to me at the time.

Grouper is definitely one of the favourite music projects I recently discovered.

This gives me nostalgia for some very weird ass reason. It’s crazy how sound can tap into your memories.
Not sure if this is healing my feelings, keeping me in them, or dragging me way further down in them.
Ha! Good though...beautifully dreamy...
It is all
Possibly all and more, an ecclectic bath of sound.

Ive been introduced to all of stars of the lid because of your comment. Thank you so much. Requiem for dying mothers has entered my top 5 songs.
love how her vocal comes in after you've been swimming for a while in ambient aural bliss...

I've got to stop drinking my life away.
Fuck dude I was just thinking the same thing today. Drinking really takes away the feeling of being alive and perceptive of everything.
Stop before it kills you. Trust me on that. Your organs will only take so much. Take care, I've been there.
I quit drinking last year.
I'm trying too lately.
Way to go dude
You guys are not alone in this. We'll get out of the loop, I just know it

You'll never find her. Life ain't that good to people like us sadly.

This song and album in general feel like they’re warmly holding me and dragging me down. I’ve been put under some astral spell.
