OHMYGOD HEY! The winner of this #MickeyJoGiveaway is @standoesshows - thank you everyone for entering and stay tuned for more videos and more chances to win soon! 🎉
I used to listen to Carrie Hope Fletcher's music and watch her vlogs, and then stopped for quite a while because life happened. It's so wild finding out all the things she's done in that time and suddenly hearing her name because of controversy with a show she's the lead in. It all feels so strange
Can I just say that your intro, alone, made me a huge fan. Your opinion is your opinion, and you're certainly entitled to it. I appreciate your knowledge and your desire to provide thoughts on both the good and the not-so-good aspects of the show. Just a thoroughly entertaining and informative review. I live quite far away from London, England and have no intention to see this show. Despite that, I watched your entire review with genuine interest.
I noticed Cinderella does a lot of solo numbers when I was listening to the soundtrack the other day. That said, if I had Carrie playing my lead, I'd be tempted to just make it a one woman show where she just sings beautifully for two and a half hours so I don't think I can blame ALW for practically doing just that.
I managed to go nearing the end of previews when Michael Hamway was on as Sebastian and he definitely was incredible! I had seats in the stalls on the revolve which I was not expecting when we booked the tickets but made the performance itself absolutely incredible and definitely something I’ll remember for a long time 💕
I've tried to see this show over 5 times so far!! I've got into London twice to see it and I still haven't seen it. I booked tickets over a year ago for my 2019 (!!) Xmas present. Bit frustrated, but I can only blame covid. I will see it eventually, and I'm so excited for when I do.
Excellent, balanced review. We have tickets to see the show (unfortunately these were a pre-Christmas treat which has now had to be postponed until January due to the last show suspension) and I can't wait to see it. I have enjoyed the CD music and look forward to experiencing it for real. I appreciate your honesty in the review and thanks for putting me on to Amelie recently which is a delightful discovery!
Laurence Connor was the wrong director for this. It needed someone who has experience of creating a show from scratch, building the world the show is set in. It needed a director who can say to the creative team, no this isnt working and needs to change. Alot of plot holes, bad casting, scenes that don't really make sense. It needs editing, the whole Godmother scene still baffles me .i have no idea how the got raves from the critics. Rebecca Trehearn is criminally wasted in this. The revolve was the best thing about the show, but that's nothing to do with the actual production. Also, I'm not entirely sure it's that suitable for kids, because of the language. Finally, Prince Charming is so underwritten, and dare i say it, not the physical type that they constantly described. I'm also not entirely sure i like that they are all surprised that a gay man could actually be a 'man's man' .
I agree with this, although I didn't interpret it that they were surprised he could be gay and manly, nobody really articulates that or questions it which is what I love, sure they assumed he was straight but they're pretty accepting of the revelation.
I truly took your insightful comments to heart ❤ Having JUST FINISHED another rewrite of a musical I'm working on. Confessions of a Retired Witch 🧙♀️. You nailed things that can go wrong in writing a musical. Scenes Must lead up to a song. Your wonderful example of A Little Night Music, with a terrific book by Hugh Wheeler, the bedroom scene leading up to Clowns. Perfect. Of course the show directed by Harold Prince is a classic. And Sondheim's score in 3/4 time a gem. I plan on seeing Cinderella when it opens on Broadway.
Finally got to see this yesterday, absolutely loved it. We had Georgina Onuorah as Cinderella, she was fantastic. We were sat in the seats that moved in act 2, brilliant idea! I want to go again and again. It bought a tear to my eye just to be back seeing live theatre once again👏👏👏👏👏👏#MickeyJoGiveaway
I'm not familiar with Victoria Hamilton-Barrit and was wondering if she puts on a voice or if that's just how her voice sounds. It didn't work for me on the recording. In fact, I was very close to skipping her parts when I listened to it. But maybe it works once you see her on stage.
Huge fan of Carrie and it has been great watching all of her behind the scenes vlogs about how challenging it has been putting this show on. Interesting to hear about the revolve as it take me back to when the theatre was The New London and I saw Cats in 1981 where the staging did a very similar thing. I seem to remember there being signs saying no entry at certain points during the show whilst the seats were moving around. #MickeyJoGiveaway
Thank you for this honest review. I am so excited as I have tickets for October just because I’m a fan of Carrie. It’s a matinee as I’m travelling long distance (and am disabled) so I understand that I may not see Carrie as understudies often do these shows - am I right? #MickeyJoGiveaway
#MickeyJoGiverway I remember when I watched your previous videos on this and it’s so nice for this one to come out after it’s fully opened and at full capacity, I’m so exited to see in in September.
You are very correct in that you are entitled to your opinion. I must admit I do not understand people who take the time to tell you they don't care what you think (when you disagree with them) when it's obvious they do - why else bother to respond? Having said that, if I could I would make the trip to London just to see this show - I love Carrie Hope Fletcher and I think the songs are fantastic (particularly "Only You, Lonely You" - stunning). Good luck with your nit-picking in your forthcoming follow up review...
What a well-constructed review!! I found the stepmother's costumes quite good, yes weird but I loved them! Especially in I Know You (idk but she looks like some animal bird) when she's compared to the queens gown. Waiting for the next vid :) #MickeyJoGiveaway
I also seen it twice but because the first time I just couldn't make sense of some of it so when I got the chance to go again I took it and I still didn't get it😂 he describes it very well when he says MEH
#MickeyJoGiveaway It currently feels like evreyone I know has seen Cinderella right now! I'm so happy you finally got to see it, I think that (from looking at production/rehearsal promo) that the set is probabaly the best part (not including the cast) but I still really want to see it
I fell in love with the soundtrack and would dearly love to actually see the show but, alas, I live in the US so I have no idea when or if it’ll come here on a tour. I know some people have complained that Cinders borders too much on the “not like other girls” but it was handled in a way that made her the most relatable version of Cinderella I’ve seen so far. And the Prince Charming twist had me laughing my head off. I hope they eventually release a video of the show for those of us who can’t just get on a train to London.
I appreciate your honesty and you come across really well in expressing your thoughts. I have always loved the story of Cinderella so when ALW decided to reinvent it I was intrigued. I have enjoyed all the films in particular Ever After. I like the soundtrack but disappointed it doesn't contain a libretto and lyrics at all! Love Heathers so I can't wait to see it in February! And to see gay representation onstage, i just hope it isn't done for comic affect. Why you so cute?
@@user-mw2ne6oh7n thanks, as much as i dislike the use of it for comedy i do wish there was some mainstream representation which is endearing but it is what it is.
I saw the production yesterday and I have to say “Meh” is probably the most accurate description. It was very pantomime but I felt it was also trying to be more serious than that and it just seemed weird? Oddly enough I love most of the musicals you mentioned (Heathers, omg) but I just found it dull. Me and my friends ended up sneaking out early to catch Mousetrap! The cast was fantastic but the script and score they had to work with was severely lacking.
There's a new LIVE action CINDERELLA premeiring on Disney + on September 3rd w/Idina Menzel as the StepMother and Billy Porter as the Fairy GodMother.....it's definitely a CINDERELLA year!
This was a great review and is very helpful, thanks! 😊I'm glad to know to keep my excitement controlled a bit so that if it's great I can be pleasantly surprised but if I get stuck on the issues you raised I also won't be too disappointed. I especially like that you went and reviewed a show that you initially weren't so impressed by- it's super interesting to hear from someone who wasn't immediately a fan of the show. Btw- are you planning to go to The Tragedy of Macbeth starring Saoirse Ronan when it premieres in September? #mickeyjogiveaway
@mickyjotheatre , this is the first time I have seen this channel, I love it. I liked the way you reviewed the show, honest about what you thought but appreciated that we will have our own opinions. Have you reviewed Pipkin? I am going to see it soon and wound love to know what you think.
Good video mate! Was interesting to hear your thoughts on it. You said what I expected really, I didn’t think you’d absolutely love it but I’m glad you didn’t hate it either. Personally I really liked & enjoyed it but I guess I’m just less critical about things & tend to just enjoy them for what they are unless of course they are actually really terrible. I do want to see it again! Was it the Joseph video you were talking about at the start where people disagreed with you? Cause I actually agreed with you more about that show than this one lol
I absolutely love Cinderella unfortunately I live in the US and can’t go but I’ve listened to the cast album about 12 times and I’ve also made a bad Cinderella cosplay with the stage accurate butterfly necklace that Carrie hope fletcher wears #MickeyJoGiveaway

Gosh, I hadn't seen any homophobia in response to this show? That's awful if it is, I'm happy to say the reaction from the audience at the coming out moment was overwhelmingly enthusiastic.
#MickeyJoGiveaway OMG hello from California! Love to hear your review. Who cares if I agree or not because you always explain and defend your opinion. Insightful! I have tickets for January. #mickeyjogiveaway i really want to see this show. Me and my friend went to London on the day it opened and I dragged her along to the theatre and stood outside and cried for about 20mins. I’m pretty sure she is still my friend… that’s called dedication 😂👏💜
