  • First I have to apologize because I didn't show how the row header works in this video, it will be in the next bean harvest video. In this video I delivered some hay, we cut some beans, and I got the opportunity to help our neighbor/landlord chop silage!

    We had a 6-row header on a JD 6620 with duals for our ridge-till operation. Next best thing to autosteer! That header was great technology, although its speed topped out around 5 1/2 MPH. Those things were like the Laserdiscs of soybean harvesting -- short-term progression until narrow-row beans became almost universal & everybody went back to their cutter bars. Then those had to step up their game.

      We ran a 653A for several years, on level fields we could run as fast as the combine would go in 3rd gear. Curves or hills were much slower.

    I farm in western NC. We just got done with corn. We had some unbelievable yields. I combine my west corn and it did 180 which is really high yielding for my area. Move to the next variety and it went 224 so I was stunned. Went to my last variety which was a 116 day corn which did 229. I had a full farm average over 200. We never have this happen. Beans are 6 weeks out because they were double crop after wheat but they are looking good too. I got lucky that I booked 3/4 of my corn crop at $1.00 over with contracts in September November and December. I got everything put up with corn filling both bins, dump truck full and combine still full. The only problem will be getting it to the feed mill when they are accepting.
    Just a word of caution to all who have great crops, you need to go ahead and start tax planning now so you don’t get hit with a bill come April.
    Hope your crops continue to be well.

    Get your LED lights on Amazon, way less cost. I switched out all my halogens on the tractor to led and the rear ones are yellow or white with flashing built in when I want extra attention on the back end. Plus they burn way less wattage so you can add 2 lights (to cover more area) to any old single light position with the same wiring.

    • @lukestrawwalker
      @lukestrawwalker 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's some vids of some running at idle on TH-cam, so you can see the works. Basically they use a wavy gathering belt (it's actually flat belting bolted to a chain every so often, almost like a gathering chain, so the waves mesh together between the two belts, which grab the stalks almost like gathering chains on a cornhead, and then there's a six-sided star shaped knife spinning right behind the grab point of the twin belts that snips the stalk off, so the belts keep the stalks pinched between them and pull them to the back and then when they turn opposite ways around the rear sprockets, they toss the plants in the cross-auger.
      I've seen them run in sunflowers and sesame, some guys in the area used them on soybeans and even grain sorghum back in the day... Later! OL J R :)
