  • Temperatures have risen 50 degrees in neighbouring Pakistan.
Businesses and households in Pakistan are suffering frequent blackouts that can last for hours.
The government says that power outages are happening in areas with high levels of power theft and an ageing transmission system.
    Al Jazeera’s Kamal Hyder reports.

The poet in PoJK police custody is Ahmed Farhad, as revealed by the Additional Advocate General of Pakistan in the Islamabad High Court.
In a significant admission, the lawyer acknowledged that PoJK (Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir) is a "foreign territory" while justifying the inability to produce Farhad before the court, as he is under custody in PoJK.
      Key Points
Ahmed Farhad, a renowned Kashmiri poet, went missing from Islamabad on May 14, 2024.
His family filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court demanding his recovery.
The Additional Advocate General of Pakistan informed the court that Farhad had been "arrested and currently in police custody" in PoJK.
To justify Farhad's non-production, the lawyer stated that PoJK is a "foreign territory," implying it is not part of Pakistan.
This admission contradicts Pakistan's long-standing claim that PoJK is an integral part of the country, referred to as "Azad Kashmir."
The court questioned how Pakistani forces could enter a "foreign territory" like PoJK if it is not part of Pakistan.
The lawyer's statement has sparked backlash and criticism on social media, with many questioning Pakistan's stance on PoJK's status.
By acknowledging PoJK as a "foreign territory," the Pakistani government lawyer has inadvertently aligned with India's position that PoJK is an integral part of the Indian union, illegally occupied by Pakistan.

In countries like Egypt and Pakistan, many corporations and businesses are run by the military rather than by qualified business professionals, resulting in significant wealth appropriation by their family members and favoritism. According to sources, almost 50% of high-asset entities, such as power projects and factories, are controlled by the military in both countries.

Nawaz & Shahbaz Sharifs have had 5 terms in office and have never had any solution to the problem, mainly because they are the culprits. Their families benefit across Pakistan, not paying taxes or electric bills, their homes are provided with expensive generators paid for from the public taxes. They never lose power. Maryam Sharif had power generator parts bought from India when there was an embargo on indian goods over Kashmir dispute. THERE IS A LAW FOR THE CITIZENS AND TOTAL LAWLESSNESS AMONG THESE LEADERS. God grant them the punishment of the grave, for their heartlessness.

The electricity power lines as shown in the video seem very dangerous! Why does not the governement build the pending dams and switch to alternate sources of energy! Also, they should negotiate with the IMF wisely and tell them the ground reality of the public! Instead of accepting every demand! Hiring of private companies in this regard might help too, or taking opinions from experts from the energy sector might guide them as well! Also, seeking investment from other countries in the power sector could also help! The taxes are already high in Pakistan and so are the bills. Also introducing anti-theft mechanisms with the help of the latest technology might also help in getting rid-off this menace of loadshedding too!

Pakistani people are chill. I have generally seen that when in India petrol prices go up even by just a 1 or 2 rupee people voices against govt. While in Pakistan if the govt increases petrol prices by even 20-30 rupees people are chill in their houses. In India currently we have inflation 5-6% but in Pakistan its above 20% still Pakistanis are chill.

We have coal, intense heat, many rivers, sun, undiscovered mineral reserves, wind energy, why still this energy shortage? Many people in Pakistan are nowadays using homemade energy by solar panel systems. Even we have installed one recently in our house. It is green, safe, cheaper and reliable. I hope the government improves the infrastructure, cracks down on power thefts and make a more organized system and country. Install bins on roads, improve transport and hygiene, boost tourism, and for Allah's sake give employment to skilled youth, make education viral, books and literature viral, remove extremism, and make this country a welfare state to live!!!!!!!!!
