I saw a documentary (think it was called The Truth About Fat). In that programme they fed 3 groups of mice: One group with a high sugar diet, another group with a high fat diet, and a third group with a diet high in fat and sugar (they used cheesecake). In the only sugar and only fat group all the mice gained a little bit of weight, but in the fat+sugar group they gained very large amounts of weight. The conclusion was that eating a combination of fat and sugar at the same time caused much bigger gains (this combination is not found in nature). This was shown to cause not only a much higher absorption rate into fat cells but also to cause the body the create more fat cells. Thought this was interesting. I have followed this myself by not eating fat and sugar combination products (e.g. chocolate) and have seen good results.
i think it is a propaganda agenda against the communist skinny dudes. That's why the West pumping sugar to the daily menu. It makes everybody completely fat in the West. The West won against the communist skinny agenda(no food) with everybody in the West looked fat and healthy. Well, It started to cause more and more problems as the people in the West just unable to stop growing more fat and fatter until everybody is too fat and it is just getting out of control to the point that almost 80% of the population is just about prediabetic. lol oh boy.
@@deadmanswife3625 True, just eat food from nature and you cant go wrong really. I don't think fruit rots your teeth (not 100% sure), even though it has lots of fructose in in. The composition of the fruit seems to not cause issues. Soon as we refine stuff it ruins it.

THIS VIDEO should be awarded BEST TH-cam VIDEO 2021! It is stupendously good and more important to helping our nation bring down our frighteningly high national health care costs than anything I have ever heard! It should be shown -- and discussed in detail -- at every drug rehab facility, and the elementary principles taught in our public and private schools starting in the first grade! Bravo, Dr. Ekberg!!!

Facts! Ive lost 25lbs (and loosing) by following this mans advice and have never had elevated levels of sugar since (former Type2 diebetic). I wish I could thank him personally for helping me!
Dr., you are a fantastic teacher. As an anesthesiologist I can easily say that 70-80% of all my surgical patients (across the spectrum of ages and cultures) are obese. Thank you for the research and time that you spend to produce these highly informative videos.
Two months and a half into intermittent fasting keto omad, lost almost 20 kilos, I got rid of my blood pressure pills, no more terrible headaches, no more hormonal acne, I'm in my mid 40s and I feel stronger and look better than my younger years!Thank you Dr. Ekberg, your videos saved my life, I'm not exagerrating! Congratulations Freya2021, you made a bright decision. It is sad that millions are stocked with suffering high blood pressure, forced to eat breakfast in order to take synthetic meds keeping them perpetually sick and sicker.
Age 39. Was on 18 medications till 3 months ago since age 12. My doctors/dieticians were no help. This doctor is helping. Only 4 meds to go before I’m clean! “Just eating less” repeatedly landed me in hospital massively malnourished.
I started losing belly fat rapidly as soon as I got my carb intake to 50g a day. I couldn't do that even running 3 miles every day combined with resistant training. Now I only do resistant training and just do a quick run over weekend to keep my ticker in order. Best thing is I stopped counting calories. I eat till I feel satisfied and honestly do not feel like I am dieting.
My carb intake is not only a lot less now but I almost completely cut out refined carbs as well and added sugars. That alone along with a healthy diet is helping me lose weight. Also, no more sweets and the biggest thing for me,no more late night eating!
@@SI-ej8hw if you can conquer diet that means you can conquer anything period starts slow and start off by eliminating all added sugars as well as refined carbs and then just go from there. You can have natural sugar as it has no link between diabetes. So go ahead and eat your fruits. Hope it goes well for you.
Hi Dr. Ekberg, thank you so much for transforming my life through your channel. I am 41 and live in Cambridge, MA. On June 16, 2021 (just 76 days ago) my routine bloodwork indicated a Triglycerides value that was literally through the roof. In fact, all parameters were off. I had a choice to make that day - either I could go to a physician and start on meds, or take matters in my own hands - at the end of the day it's my body. I didn't want to be yet another statistics in someone's books to get a symptomatic treatment for something that might have a chance to heal naturally. All I needed was the right knowledge and will power. Also, coming from India, I knew there were natural ways to heal the body some of which are clearly outlined in Ayurveda. However, I needed more specificity in my understanding of the human body and the information out there was so jumbled up. Thank God, I stumbled upon your channel and watched a video on why 'Walking is better than Running'. That was the turning point for me, Dr. Ekberg. So, for past 76 days, I have been walking 3 hrs a day (5.30am and 6.30pm - rain, shine, thunderstorm) which means - over 7 miles and 13,000 steps a day on an average. I just completed 1Mn steps last week. In parallel, I have been following Intermittent fasting (20:4) religiously and now am on OMAD with low carb diet. I truly appreciate the fact that weight loss is about managing insulin levels and avoid it being triggered. Of course, I have observed a zero sugar (Dr. Robert Lustig is yet another favorite), no rice, wheat, bread and alcohol diet. The fact that I am an Indian who's working for a French company made it tough to leave rice, wheat and wine, but I did it anyhow. The result is that I have lost 27lbs (225 > 198lbs), my waist as per GAP Khakis (30% off) has come down from 38" to 32" and I have started wearing L tee-shirts from XL, which I have been wearing for so many years now. But the best thing is that - I feel fantastic. I feel driven. I discovered that I love this lifestyle and it's not just a temporary investment in my own health but is kind of a wellness sunrise as I enter my 40s. I believe that getting up at 530 am and taking those first steps towards the door for my morning walk is the first battle I win every day. Would one want to lose the first battle of the day? The only issue is that my friends and family have started avoiding me coz all I do is talk about health now and am a huge proponent of natural/ non-processed food, IF, Ketogenic diet and turning them to a health champion. Again, I can't thank you enough for being a leading light to me. I am visiting Atlanta in October for work but would definitely love to take an appointment and thank you in person, and of course get your advice :) BTW, just ordered Medical Physiology by Hall..
Well done man. You will be a calorie burning machine with that much walking and omad for ur eating pattern! I eat about 200grams protein, 200 grams carbs (NO REFINED SUGARS) and 50-70 grams fat and sticking to this with increased walking, cycling and weights i have maintained muscle mass and lost 10kgs of fat. Good times my friend
Congratulations and thank you Abhishek Bali for sharing your great results and helping inspire others. That is so awesome. I am thrilled that you have seen such great results. Keep it up! Please stop by if you pass by Atlanta. 😄

Everyone I know tells me that my ketogenic (mostly carnivore) diet is going to make me ill in one way or another. But I'm at my ideal weight, I no longer have arthritis. I have energy to spare, and yet most of them are on multiple medications for what they describe as "age related" issues!
My experience going keto was very much the same. My arthritic feet, ankles and knees are like new now. Can't tell you how much better I feel, and can't recall any headache since changing my diet. This is soooooo worth it.

We’re expected to trust our doctors and I’ve met a few that I do, but some I simply cannot. And I’m reminded that half of all doctors graduated at the bottom of their class. I don’t care if you’re an MD or not. Your logic and conclusions are solid and trustworthy. Plus, I’ve put this to the test by trying it myself and eliminating carbs had the positive effect I was looking for.
Great info! USDA should have put out a one page diet plan: "Cut out all sugars, lower your carb intake and go on a OMAD Intermittent fasting schedule". This is exactly what my wife and I have done and it's like a miracle cure for obesity.
@@gustavobermudez1821 That would be hard to describe as there's usually 25 - 35 items or more on the plate. We came from a vegan background so there's fruit, vegies, seeds & nuts along with some sort of soup (miso, squash, tomato, vegetable, etc) as the main course. My wife's a pro at taking what's in season in our garden and making a meal of it. We do eat a little meat or fish and some carbs but not much. We've really tried to blend the vegan & keto (low carb) diets to what suits us. That along with the intermittent fasting is now the way we go. I'm down 55lbs from a high of 215 and feeling great.
So true! I just lost 25+ pounds since April 1 (20 pounds in 3 months) and I was finding these videos so started implementing these things... I'm doing IF pretty much 18/6 and OMAD with healthy fats. I even have 78% Lindt dark chocolate every day... Often Chardonnay and STILL losing weight! I feel great and I'm very satisfied because I'm eating cheese and eggs, or a cheeseburger (no bun) yogurt with blueberries or avacado... Macadamia nuts! My clothes fit awesome. I wasn't terribly overweight but I was chubby for me because I had started eating too much sugar. Now I weigh 127 with 22 % body fat. I'm 5'8"+ and just turned 60. I probably last weighed 127 when I was 12! Lol
I went to my doctor yesterday and asked if I needed to be put on Metformin for my pre-diabetes , he said 'Metformin has a lot of side effects and I would rather you control it with food, eat your higher carbs earlier in the day, keep up the exercise and eat very low carb at your evening meal'. I think my dr. gave me good advice and I love your channel Dr. Ekberg! He also told me to start taking B12
Perfect. Eat a little carbs before your workout and a little bit after. The rest of the meals no carbs. Fish and asparagus, something like that. I got a chalk board and write my workout plan every morning and mark it off as I complete each one
With over forty years of running at least five-hundred to a thousand miles per year, I still gained around 40 lbs as I aged. That's anecdotal evidence that you cannot exercise away a bad diet. The Keto diet changed that two years ago and I'll never return to a traditional diet.
Dear dr Ekberg, thank you for the great advice. After 2 months I reduced the weight from 96kg to 84kg. It cost me no effort at all. I eat once a day. No carbo. I do not go hungry. Exercise with moderation. Thank you once more. I weigh now less than 40 years ago. Have never managed to achieve this in 40years.
Worked for me. 4 years ago, I cut down on my eating (I used to overeat) and started cardio workouts (45 minutes daily), and I dropped from 205 LBS to 165 LBS in 3 months. Since then, over three years have passed, and I have not regained the weight. I did not resort to extremes. I cut down on basic indulgences, such as 14 Pepsi cans a week to 4 cans a week, bowls of cereal for breakfast to no breakfast and less bread.
I also understood not to take advice from doctors about nutrition when I learned that to become an M.D, you have to do only 1 hour course about nutrition. If you watch about 3 videos from Dr. Sten Ekberg you already know more than your doctor.
True, doctors are trained to write prescriptions and make pharmaceutical companies and themselves 💰! By you visiting every few months they have secure long term revenue💰 . You are to your doctor a customer who pay for his services. Doctors don’t want your cured, they want you to come back for another $$$ Visit 😂😂😂

I used to think by losing weight I would eat everything I eat now but less, but thanks to the keto diet and Dr. Ekberg has changed my life from struggling to lose weight and has given me a new life. Many thanks
You need a little carb...for your brain. Carb is brain food and studies are finding that people who are on strict keto diets are more susceptible to dementia and Alzheimer's.
I'm happy for you .. with that said it's not that Keto has a magic .. whether you know it or not , you're in a caloric deficit and that's what's making you lose weight
How would health insurance companies benefit from all their clients being fat and sick? Seems like the ideal business model would be one in which all their clients are healthy, pay their premiums, never need medical care and don't cost the insurance company money. I am genuinely curious.
@@Austinsairplanes It's a gamble that has risks but it wouldn't exist it people weren't afraid of their future health. If most people, say 90% only got sick/required hospital when they hit 90+ yrs no one would be thinking about insurance at all. But if you're 25 and you're local GP says you have high blood pressure (and you know of 40 year old's who've had heart attacks and the cost they had to pay) you'd take up health insurance (also the general dental etc that's separate). The ideal business is to get more customers by fear-selling and hopefully not all of them are getting sick and costing you. A balance of 'not too much, not too little'. Wanting sickness to happen, but not toooo much. Say you're an insurance company. You has 100 customers.100 payments for your cover even when they're not sick. Every year you get 100 payments (for doing nothing). Say 30% get sick one year, you have to cover them and it costs 30 extra to you (assuming it costs double). Roughly you're gaining only 70 payments that year. Still profit. With your business dealings you also get discounts from pharmaceutical companies/hospitals (you ONLY send your customers to a specific brand or it's not covered) Something that costs an uncovered patient $50 costs your company $10~ (like retail vs wholesale) You also write contract exceptions like 'you're customer can't 'cost' more than 10X per year or the contract is invalid' That's how every insurance company works (home/car insurance companies all hope that people are afraid of theft/natural disaster, they go with them and they hope it's a balance of 80-20. If you live in a country with no theft/natural disasters good luck having people sign up. Also there's the cheating things like 'can't insure a lightning strike, it's the act of god' just to keep profits. Will pay for house floods but only if it breaks a certain height. In fact in this case the pharma people get way more cash. (If you have time look up how insurances make money... it's actually depressing)
The final piece of the puzzle thanks. This is your definitive work. My doctor is amazed at my recovery from t2d and I told her it was because of your teaching. And now I have this video, from some 500 videos that you made, that says it all.
Thank you Dr. Ekberg! As many others have said, nobody breaks it down and explains these topics better than you do. Thanks to you I adopted a Lower carb / Higher fat / 2MAD / more whole foods plan and the results have been well beyond my expectations. In eight months I have lost 40 pounds, A1C back to the normal range for the first time in ten years and normal BMI for the first time in nearly 20 years. At age 55 I now have regained the physique and and bodyfat level I had at age 25!!!! Thank you and keep it up getting your optimal health message out there!
I’ve been a Health Promotion consultant for almost 40 yrs, and it is refreshing to hear such a wealth of knowledge on the topic of weight control/loss & nutrition 💝 Thank you SO much for your contribution Dr E!
Dr Ekberg I just want to say a massive thank you for inspiring me to become healthy. In May I was 15.6 stone and today I am 12.5. My goal is 10.5 as I'm 5ft 11 and 37 yrs of age. I do OMAD and eat very little carbs following the Keto diet. I'm in the middle of a 3 day fast currently (mainly to overhaul my immune system & I always have a good supply of potassium, magnesium, sodium and water). I always feel sharp & alert, sleep is now amazing and I'm more proactive in my everyday life than ever before. The crazy thing is, whenever I tell somebody about this new found lifestyle they call me crazy and I'm being dangerous. These people tend to be significantly overweight so it's kinda comical! Thanks again for teaching me how to live life properly, I hope one day I get to thank you in person. Keep up the fantastic work pal! 👍😀 - Paul, Liverpool England
You are such a great educator. I am referring many of my patients to your videos. I am a Family Physician I was overweight trying to eat less exercise more tore a calf muscle and just got fatter. I have fasted on and off for some time. During a 4 day fast I found one of your videos on intermittent fasting. After my fast I went to OMAD and lower carbs and cutting out all junk food. WOW i am now an example for my patients down 45 lbs 10 to go. No cravings. Feel great. Thank you so much.
I started watching this channel a few months ago and it really opened my eyes when it came to my false understanding of all the negative things we've been taught about our bodies. Like having high cholesterol and obesity; more specifically, insulin. I absolutely love everything this man does. One question I do have for Dr. Ekberg is if you think the guidelines for a healthy diet are wrong, what would be your suggested healthy diet?
This by far is the best video explaining why and how we get fat. Thank you Dr Ekberg for teaching this in simple terms so we understand and can now take the right action to being healthier.
Excellent summary! I will be sending this to some friends and family to hopefully change their attitude about weight loss. I think I might even need to put this on a list to rewatch every month just to ‘realign’ my thinking (it’s so easy to start to slowly creep back to what the majority recommend).
I lost 40 of my 50 pound weight loss goal a year ago and have easily kept it off for a year and don't obsess about those last 10 pounds. Keeping weight off for a year is notable and significant as far as weight loss goes. My doctor was very happy with the weight loss & the health benefits I gained with it.
Thanks. I am 77 years old with pacemaker,, was told in February that my number showed that I should start taking Metforman . For two month I went vegan then went Keto for the last three month. Went from 235 to 178 lbs all numbers way down . 40 “waist to 33” sleeping better , I can say it’s not about weight loss it’s about feeling Healthy. OMAD AND NO CARBS not everyone can cut all carbs but at 77 I don’t have a hole lot of time left. Not saying everyone should do it this way but what do I have to loose. Hope this helps someone out there!
@@drekberg It seems nowdays every food is processed and there is sugar everywhere. I read there is some on pack of pasta. I mean, how do you mess up flour and egg with sugar? Is it deliberate? And one more question for Doc, if I built insulin resistance, is there a way back? I'm around 90kg and I still have strength, but my weight is not going anywhere.
@@bidzapfc yes,it is deliberate....big pharma loves obese overweight people to push their drugs. Billions $$$$$ on the line for them. They don't want you to be well....
@@bidzapfc he’s got a lot of other videos on your second question. You can indeed lower your insulin resistance but it takes time. It depends on your unique chemistry, how long you’ve been that way, and after you’ve seen the light, what is the correct new amount of carbs for you for good impact and better health. I recently had a complete blood panel done and asked for an insulin test to be included. Dr. said no, said my insurance (Medicare) doesn’t pay for it unless indicated. Rather unfortunate shortsighted view in my opinion.

Three weeks ago I turned 75. I'm 50 pounds overweight and have zero energy. For the past 2 weeks I have been devouring your videos, and have a notebook now filling with information. I have started a modest attempt at Keto and intermittent fasting. I'm on my third day. I'm still working on my fat:protein ratio. I 'll get it eventually, and I cut my carbs to 32 grams on day 1 ---- 8.5 grams on day 2 --- and 6.5 grams on day 3. I have been making meals on what is in the house (always been big on salads). I have watched your video on the $10 grocery list ($10/day) and I'm going shopping tomorrow. Thank you for all you help and advisory videos. I'll try to post my progress.
Hi Dr. Ekberg. I'm from the Philippines and I follow your videos. I'd like to express my great thanks for all the help your videos have done to my health. It is life changing. With the help of your videos, I lost 7kg. 4kg more and I'll be at my ideal weight. I've been struggling with my weight almost my whole life. I am 47 years old now. My high uric acid and cholesterol is now back to normal with the help of your videos. I am amazed at how the body can self heal. Would you have videos that addresses/could reverse/correct: 1. mild cervical spondolosis and 2. Left anterior fascicular block
Great speaker, great message. I was unable to lose weight for years. I tried everything from WW, nutrisystem, JG and other diets without success. I started Keto June 15 2021, and as of September 5, 2021 I have lost 24 pds. I still cannot believe it. My cholesterol dropped from 275 to 214. My goal is to lose 30 more pds. I started at 217 and I'm down to 193 now. Keto works for me. My main goal is to understand how my body works and improve my health. I want to stop statins and I do not want to continue the path of medications if I can do something. I start to exercise a bit more and I see results. Thank you for sharing the wealth of knowledge you possess, so all of us understand the basics at least.
When I was poor I was thin. Now I have money Im fat. Not having money, being forced to walk everywhere, and doing manual jobs, sure was a good way to maintain my weight.
Unfortunately now being poor means only able to afford the cheapest foods which are now ultra processed. Sugar and seed oils are the base of these foods with little additional nutrition. In the US most poor people are also obese due to lack of food options.
@@OGPedXing No, that’s a total myth. You can eat healthy very cheaply. The problem is getting in that carb/sugar loop takes over your mind when you get hungry and it makes you impatient and painfully hungry so people settle for what is quick and convenient. Grass-fed, grass-finished meat is expensive and becoming more so thanks to our idiot environmentalist overlords who mistakenly demonize red meat.
@@vknight7497 Have you spent much time in poor neighborhoods in LA, Detroit, New Orleans and other cities? I haven't, but I have read that these places are food deserts. This means that there are only convenient stores selling processed food and most of the poor people living in these places don't have cars (or access to public transportation that someone in a city like New York City or Washington DC, San Francisco would have). I believe this is true of many smaller cities in the mid-west, although I haven't visited them or tried to live in them, so I am just taking the word of other people. I know it's hard in Flint, MI to get vegetables and stuff because I know people living there- even with a car, if you're not driving to Ann Arbor you're not finding healthy food. I grow food and that makes it cheap, but everything I buy is super expensive- nuts, organic veggies and fruit, grass fed meat and dairy are all crazy expensive although at least they are available to me so I am grateful. I'm trying to buy nuts online for better prices, but in my experience healthy food is pricey and sometimes even with money you can't get your hands on it. I don't think the price of grass fed meat has anything to do with "idiot environmentalists." I've worked on some grass fed farms and have seen videos of factory farms. There is no way to humanely raise animals cheaply, it just takes work and space and knowledge and access to so many resources; although nothing is more wonderful than a diversified, sustainable farm with closed loop systems. I think this is ok because we don't need a lot of meat in our diet, but I don't understand how it could be done less expensively. If you have secrets to eating healthy cheaply than please make a youtube video and share it! My only tip, buy dry goods from internet although this makes me feel guilty about the distance food travels and the fossil fuel involved.
I don't think the real problem is food prices. The people who grow and produce good food deserve to make a decent living. The problem is that rent, real estate and other prices are artificially inflated and we spend so much money on our homes and clothes. I think housing needs to be cheaper and most people can survive with less clothing and other superficial crap they spend money on and anyone with the space to do so should grow food for themselves and more to share if they have the space. Lawns should be illegal if they are on decent land that could be growing food. Oh, and every job should pay a living wage and that's way more than $15 per hour in many places. People also need to only build energy efficient homes and then we wouldn't have to spend all our money and waste so many resources heating and cooling indoor spaces.
I'm an orthopaedic surgeon (and read Guyton in medical school many years ago) and have been wathing your videos for a long time. I'm translating these informations that you've been sharing with us here to my language and tell my patients . Informing them. You can not imagine how many people thay you had touched their lives from the other side of the world. Thank you so much Dr Ekberg
Tell them to consume not much more than 100-115g of grass-fed WHITE meat per day; or poultry and fish, and also not much more as 20 g of carbs from cruciferous veggies. Fat intake is in moderation if hungry add more, if ok then nothing to add needed: varies from person to person, but also from 20 to 40g as max. Food must be cooked or steam only, not fried or baked. As much natural as it can be and not factories made processed foods They'll thank you later
I love the truth. Music to my ears. Adjusting my daily carb intake to less than 5% and maintaining the same calories has helped shred real body fat. It's actually mind boggling how the body works.
Dr Ekberg! You outdid yourself this time! The best fact-based video yet! I've watched many of your videos, eat low carb & iF. Went from 177lbs to 147lbs and feel much better in my skin. 64 yo female 5'6"
Doc; this has to be one of your very best yet! That was very well presented, and the evidence for your argument was overwhelming. Not to mention that everything you propose as the fix for weight loss has worked for me. Thank you for everything your doing to actually help people like myself. The results I have achieved at 63 in only 6 months has been nothing short of a miracle. I plan to eat this way the rest of my life, because I haven't felt this good in over a decade, and that is the absolute truth! And yes, I share most all your videos. God bless you!
I went over a few more videos. Unbelievable how the doctors never tell you about the "why". Now I'm learning to understand why my body is acting the way it does. Thank you Dr. Sten for this information.
Another amazing video; mindblowing in fact. I`ve tried so many different diets but, until you understand the reasons behind the way our bodies work, you will never fully grasp how to control our urges. Thank you for making it so easy to comprehend how we can change our habits and extend our lives.
Thank you Dr. Sten! You have an amazing way of explaining difficult topics so people like me can understand and learn how to take care of my body. Once I rid my mind of the notion of starving myself, counting calories, etc I can see I'm on a better healthier lifestyle. Have a beautiful day
This video should be screened on schools, even medicine colleges, everything's perfectly explained and on point. Thanks a lot for such a meaningful content, Dr. Ekberg! (and so nice to see you in your Olympic times! :D )
Your video on HOMA-IR is my favourite. It helped to measure the progress I made with reversing insulin resistance. I was able to go from pre-diabetes to no IR (fasting insulin of 4.57) since March (6 months). Great work on the videos. If it is your area, please make one on estrogen dominance and DIM.
Joe Loveys NOT EVEN CLOSE! But there is no point to talk to you, cuz you already have your opinion. And I am 100% sure, you have no idea about Gyton book! And, more important, you don't think about what really happens within your body, when you eat! Do your own research bro, and don't build up your opinion on your OLD believes wich not serving you or any other human! Have a nice day😊

Love the insert of the Doctor reaction to you reading the book 'cover to cover.' 😁 Thank you for all you do. I'll be 62 next month and under your watchful eye, influence, great information and motivation I'm down from 325+ lbs to 293.6 at last weigh in. It's been approximately 65 days since getting serious about things. Weight coming off and feeling great but now a bit worried about sagging skin. Any recommendations? Thank you.
I was given the wrong advice by doctors in the UK for nearly 40 years with serious consequences....this guy has reinforced the decisions I made then and given the advice that's already provided amazing benefits for me now. Thank you.
I was eating about 65% carbs (270-290 gr) as that recommended until I found your channel. I slowly lowered that down to 70 to 50 gr a day and eat a more varied diet. I have lost 35 pounds the last year.
@@ivoryking509 He literally explains why this isn't the case in this very video which you clearly didn't watch before commenting. I actually intake a few more calories on my current diet than I did before, just lowered carbs. I lost that weight and feel better because by cutting carbs I've lowered...wait for it... **my insulin resistance**
@@BrodieBr0 if you’re intaking more calories like you claim and still lost weight it’s because you’ve become more active due to feeling better. But I highly doubt you’re eating more calories despite cutting out 200g of carbs from your diet. You lost weight Bc you lowered your calories. Studies after studies show self reported caloric intake in consistently very unreliable. You cut out 800 calories from those carbs. So unless you took in 90 g extra of fat to make up for that then you absolutely were in a caloric deficit
@@douglasschrift4453 As Ekberg's been saying, caloric intake doesn't give you the whole picture when it comes to maintaining your weight and I've found that true with my own body. Carbohydrate created insulin resistance is the largest determining factor to my weight loss. One factor you're correct on is that I'm very active..but I'm also now 50 years old. I never had an issue about my weight until 2 years ago when I started gaining weight. All my life I've eaten a lot potatoes, bread, and noodles along with fruits and vegetables. At first I still ate my usual diet but went down to 2 meals a day and 1800 calories. I was still slowly gaining weight. So decided to change my diet and found Dr. Ekberg's channel. He said and I agree, the biggest factor to keeping a healthy weight is reducing carbohydrate created insulin resistance along with eating foods nature provides, eating a varied diet, and giving the body fast periods to recover from IR. So I dumped the carbs replacing the noodles, bread, and potatoes with grass fed, beef, pork, eggs, wild caught salmon, sardines, avocado, and real butter among other things. I run a farm, I'm up daily at 4am. I eat 2 big meals a day adding up to about 2000 calories. I eat once at 8am and again at 11am and that's it. Another great thing Dr. Ekberg says too is that you have to find the right diet for you. This diet works for me and my lifestyle. Thanks for your comment, have a great day/night!
My undergraduate degree is in Biology. I was pre-med as well, but I ended up not going down that path. In my physiology class, I was introduced to "Guyton's" as a supplementary text. Like you, I fell in love with this book and would even say that it is my favorite book ever.
Whaou ! It sounds like a revolution ! You're right when you said that we heard the same things again and again... Congratulations on your work ! Greetings from France !
This video has inspired me to get my own copy of Guyton and Hall, 45 years after completing my MD degree. It is a crime what the medical establishment (and others) are promoting in terms of dietary recommendations. Remember that the AMA used to take money from tobacco interests for decades.
I recommend your channel to so many people & I honestly believe this particular video is a perfect place for them to start. Great explanation & easy to understand.
And I just bought the Mayo Clinic Diet book. PCOS & early 40s. Felt so discouraged to go to the doctor to have gained weight. I’ve been eating the unlimited fruits & veggies, but sooooo hungry. This helps. Definitely checking out more of your content for help. Thank you!

Hello dear Doctor, I am glad to have found your channel on YT. Health, healthy life style and fitness topics are much of my interest. I would like to point out one thing that is hardly ever mentioned when it comes to a healthy life style. From my personal exerience I would say that what matters first in terms of a healthy diet is QUANTITY. This factor seems so underrated nowadays. My grandmo used to say that you don't live to eat but you eat to live. Within years luckily enough I ve managed to reach a balance, made peace with myself, meaning accepted who I am and I no longer have to worry about my silhouette and do all this tedious calorie counting or follow some fad and miracolous " healthy" diets. What I do instead I simply stop eating when I feel full! I eat a variety of different food and I do eat sweets and fruit! I've made a long journey to achieve this peaceful state and at age 48 I still weight when I was 17 years old and I have very low body fat percentage. Of course, I am an active person, I walk a lot, I created my fitness routine (mainly pilates exercises) and I run about 35 km per week, 4 times a week at a comfortable pace. It is not very time consuming and I don't go to gym. I think that being fit and active person is also crucial for my mental health and help me to "unstress " myself. Cheers from Italy!
i really appreciate how much you spend time and effort to make your videos easy to understand to viewers. you break it down to its most comprehensible way.. thank you so much dr. sten! God bless you and stay safe.. ❤️
Yes Dr Ekberg another excellent video! 👏🏽👏🏽 A calorie is simply a unit of energy and an oversimplification of what happens in the body - counting calories is about as useful as counting horsepower or kW
Very good summary, insuline blocks fat burning and this causes more eating. It seems I need a daily reminder about how insanely harmful high carb meals are, because my mind kind of erases memories of this helpful knowledge
So, if insulin blocks fat burning, how can people still be eating a lot of carbs and be losing weight? People lose weight all the time on higher carb diets.
When I eat over 50 grams of net carbs and not enough proteins I get intense hunger at night and carbs cravings, so this is how I know for a fact that my body is not able to access the stored fat, when I had too much carbs. When I manage to eat very low carb and over 180 gr of proteins, there is zero hunger at night.
I have just had a phone call from my gp's practice nurse to discuss my blood test results. Cholesterol levels were high and the advice was exactly the same: eat 'healthily' i.e. reduce fat intake. I discovered this channel just in time!
Amazing vdeo as always. Down 22 kilos in 2.5 months, doing some extended fasting, trying 5 days as a stating point, feels AMAZING - never felt so great, never had so much energy. Everything u say about insulin keeping u away from your energy is SO TRUE!! Eating 3 meals and some snacks and driking beer (which is quite caloric) and still felt like a dead horse. Now not eating for 4-5 days in a row? No problem! 37 000 steps today, walked for more or less 8 hours almost non stop :P If only I had found your channel 5-8 years earlier :(
This is great info. I always find that I have better self control and make better choices when I'm armed with information. Would have loved a few tips at the end of what to eat instead. I'm sure Dr. Ekberg has other videos on that, but it would be great to have some of it mentioned here or a link to a video on what to eat to lose weight. Thank you for all that you do, Dr. Ekberg.
I have been on keto diet for 4 months now and my blood sugar level is normal and I have lost weight. My pants of 20 years ago now fit. Thank you Dr. Ekberg
Two years after embarking on a keto diet I am down 65 pounds and keeping it off. I am 73 years old. People just need the right information and they will be healthy.
Exercising is not just for overweight people. It's for everyone. It's not meant to lose weight, it's meant to keep you in good health, and in a good mood. Walking 30 minutes a day proves to have similar results as most anti-depressant drugs. Yes, walking is already considered exercise. You do not need an expansive subscription to gym, you can start right now
Thank you Dr. Ekberg for another amazing video. After I discovered your channel and watched almost all your videos I can't trust other doctors anymore. Doctors who themselves have health problems I can help them with. I can introduce your channel to them so they don't misguide themselves and others.

Thank You Kaps1.618. Right 😄
True, doctors are trained to write prescriptions and make pharmaceutical companies and themselves 💰! By you visiting every few months they have secure long term revenue💰 . You are to your doctor a customer who pay for his services. Doctors don’t want your cured, they want you to come back for another $$$ Visit 😂😂😂
Modern medicine is about treating the symptoms, not about addressing the causes.
Oh Lord, that statement alone is such a truth bomb 💣!
@@HS99876 i feel that's much of a problem in America, in my country medicine it's very hard, we have amazing doctors, also almost everyone use the public service and althought it have flaws, the doctors are amazing. You pay with your taxes but it's worth it.
One of my doctors says the average doctor is 15 years behind on the science. And I believe he is right.

Old "Guidelines" fail health...
But they open up profits for fast foods, soda drinks and health insurance!
Thank You Mystic User. Right on. "Symptom treatment insurance" 😄
It’s all connected. Bunch of suits misleading people for $$.
As my husband said many years ago most doctors are now only 'prescription jockeys.' They treat the symptoms and not the cause.
With your business dealings you also get discounts from pharmaceutical companies/hospitals (you ONLY send your customers to a specific brand or it's not covered) Something that costs an uncovered patient $50 costs your company $10~ (like retail vs wholesale)
You also write contract exceptions like 'you're customer can't 'cost' more than 10X per year or the contract is invalid'
That's how every insurance company works (home/car insurance companies all hope that people are afraid of theft/natural disaster, they go with them and they hope it's a balance of 80-20.

I started watching this channel a few months ago and it really opened my eyes when it came to my false understanding of all the negative things we've been taught about our bodies. Like having high cholesterol and obesity; more specifically, insulin. I absolutely love everything this man does.

@@drekberg It seems nowdays every food is processed and there is sugar everywhere. I read there is some on pack of pasta. I mean, how do you mess up flour and egg with sugar? Is it deliberate?

As much natural as it can be and not factories made processed foods

Ekberg.
Stopped carbs and started OMAD (without much difficulty) and in a week my headache was gone ! I had it for 40 years almost every day!
I have been on keto diet for 4 months now and my blood sugar level is normal and I have lost weight. My pants of 20 years ago now fit. Thank you Dr. Ekberg
In my own experience losing weight is 98% about eating and YEP, just a small percentage of exercising.
True, true ....a good diet, that in time turns into a lifestyle is the key 💞
Can't deny that.
100% yes
Two years after embarking on a keto diet I am down 65 pounds and keeping it off. I am 73 years old. People just need the right information and they will be healthy.
THANK YOU. That explained a lot. I appreciate, how you go into detail of everything.
And he does it with a minimum of PhD biochemistry terms that people can understand if they listen carefully and rewatch if needed.
Yes, if you have a fat doctor or fat P.A. etc., find a new one.
Thank You Hannan Matouri. Now we're talking. That is what I love to hear. 😄
Omg...thank you, so much for this info!
Oct. 2021 I was diagnosed with Myopericarditis in hospital and released a day after. Almost 3 weeks later was hospitalized 4 days w/damaged kidneys due to NSAIDS on top of the Myopericarditis!
After I was released from hospital I found out my cholesterol was high at 238! I looked up lots of info on cholesterol.
Your video really helped me to understand it so well!! I was & still am eating a healthy diet. Therefore, I am relieved to know more about all this!!
THANK YOU!! 🙂
This is such an important video to watch. Thank you for spelling it out for us Dr.
