    i used to buy everything she put out knowing something powerful and brilliant was on it's way. I dont know if it ever came but her stuff was always fascinating and fun to say the least

      @Moosh Monkey It's not that she didn't reach her potential, it's more that she's never been appreciated by the masses or the critics. Maybe someday in the future.

      @@irmaveps4618 You're right, she delivered pretty well but the fickle shithead public of the 80s welcome you one minute then dump you the next, unless you're so sad you should never have been welcomed in the first place, in which case they bloody love you forever. What do you expect in a world that calls slagdonna a star!

    Underrated song. Excellent. The dawning of home video and I was on it.

    When I was 17 I danced in a film where I was supposed to depict a naiad, a creature of the water, dancing out of a lake and across a pristine field of green. I was wearing a filmy white dress and dancing in the summer sun amidst grass and wildflowers. I didn't have the music I would be dancing against yet so I had to dance to something and for some reason, the director chose this. I never knew it was called "Sister Video" for a long time. "Love your movie movie world." I didn't understand that at the time and it really cracked me up when I later learned. I will never forget the reverberating arpeggios I danced to at 2:03 and at the end to fade out, which were in my head for days at that time.

    the late Pete Burns (Dead Or Alive) said in an interview, he liked this album. It wasn't one of his favourites, but he appreciated the creativity and thought it was unfair that Hazel O'Connor got to "milk the New Wave thing" for all its worth.

      @@markponcia8969 I used to have "No Man's Land" on cassette a long time ago. I wish I could find it on CD for a decent price. There are only a few USED copies of this on Amazon, and they all want at least $30 for it. Sorry, but I can't pay that for a used cd. They don't have any of the songs off of it on Apple Music either. I can't figure out why. "Maria" is my favorite song from her.

      @@HumGuitar People are tossers with no taste for the most part. Well they allowed the likes of slagdonna, S/A/W and c/rap to kill the 80s and give us all what followed, so there we go. Good stuff is always hidden away or locked up. I hear you, 'Maria' is a wicked song, one of the best singles of 1982 (like 'Blue Hotel') before it, but you'd never know both were singles the way they were treated. This could have been a single too if allowed. Her new futuristic sound for the 80s was brilliant even if only 2 albums were sadly completed back then.

    Did Lene sample Gary Numan/Tubeway Army's "We Are So Fragile"?

    • @marke928
      @marke928 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steeb's Dot no, I saw Lene play this live in 1982, sampling wasn’t a thing then. Sampling synths like the Fairlight CMI and Synclavier were not readily around. A mate worked at Fairlight in the mid 80s and we’d go in and use the studio some weekends.

    • @marke928
      @marke928 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@edmund184 - Not at all. I have both Albums and the only similarity is that they both use keyboards. I just re-listened to be sure I wasn't going crazy and they are nothing alike, the tempo, notes, sequence and just about everything else are different. AT a stretch I'd say that the keyboards both sound like early 80s Korgs - which they probably were. Have another listed to Numan - th-cam.com/video/RXt4i8I0QEY/w-d-xo.html

    • @marke928
      @marke928 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      andy morris I think you are confusing the music which is completely different with the fact that both used standard sounds on Roland synthesisers. If you pay attention to a lot of different artists you will hear the same keyboard sounds used a lot. Lots of the synths had quite distinctive sounds by default. In the late 80s the Fairlight CMI was the first sampling synth and even then there were a lot of track out using the standard library sounds - particularly if they were good sounds. A mate worked at Fairlight and I’ve met some of the guys employed to make the factory sounds that shipped with them. I can assure you that in 1982 Lena did NOT have a CMI on stage with her.
