Correct there are probably more vets per capita here than anywhere else in the country and because many of us were local guard and reserve and mostly Army and mostly direct combat support, most of us have actually seen combat. And we hang out with our veteran brothers on a regular basis.

What is process for a State leaving the Union? Winning a War of Secession, which was what the first one was not a Civil War, in a Civil War two groups battle over who gets to run the country
Czechoslovakia was a very rare circumstance where succession did not cause violence and that was largely because the two countries saw each other as the quite similar in nature & culture

Are you talking Federal Military assets in each state? Just because a Federal Asset is located in a State that does not mean it belongs to that state. Nothing says the personnel would go along with the politics of the State they are located in.
A better measure of Military power would be comparing National Guard numbers in each state. The problem with National Guard numbers is the ammunition is controlled by the Federal Government unless the State has stockpiled ammunition or has it's own State Owned ammunition factories.

Can't see it happening. The USA's size, geography and enormous pools of human and natural potential are what make it the world's most powerful and wealthy nation. Even losing just one state would seriously dent American power and prestige, especially if that state were California or Texas, the two most obvious candidates. Any attempts to secede would almost certainly result in a civil war.

The truth when it comes to modern armaments we cannot afford what is needed in all out war. Iraq was a limited war , China , Russia would be all out and due to the level of sophistication of these weapons they would quickly bankrupt us.
