This concert was 7 days before my 18th birthday as a senior in high school and I appreciated Jerry so much in this timeframe that it bordered on being embarrassing. Here I am almost 44 years later and my affection for this music has not subsided. It seems timeless to me and the extent of my affection is still embarrassing- haha.
Like the song of a broken heart chalking it up to a simple twist of fate to deal with the sadness within. Jerry sings it strait. But his playing reveals the true heartache with beautifully placed minor notes and his runs around the fretboard. Genius is often the manifestation of sadness I suppose.
I was lucky enough to see him during the late 80s and he still played these Dylans songs like no one else,,,i say lucky cause im from south america and just lived in the states a couple of years...amd found out about him because a girl i´ve met a summer while i was supossed to be 20000 kilometers away form there... just a simple twist of fate---
Die hard Dylan fan/snob here. But…damn…Jerry nails it. Love this version. It's just different. Not worse. Not better. Just different…and beautiful. Thanks for posting.
To: Garry Founds - I feel sorry for you however (re: fan/snob reference). See, Bob Dylan and Jerry Garcia (R.I.P.) are both Heaven's gift's to all of us. Though Jerry is now singing to the Angels-in-the-sky, Bob has the burden of just performing all his songwriting gems to us peons-on Earth. One day, though, we'll all just be 'going going gone'. Treasure them all, including the great Tom Petty!
jerry was the best interpreter of Dylan tunes and as one of my buddies mentioned, probably a better interpreter than Dylan himself on most occasions in voice and always on guitar. they grew into themselves w/ jerry's playing. sometimes it takes two.
"What wondrous life is this I lead! Ripe apples drop upon my head The luscious clusters of the vine Upon my mouth do crush their wine The nectarine and curious peach Into my hands themselves do reach; Stumbling on melons as I pass Ensnared with flowers, I fall on the grass (Andrew Marvell - 17th century)
It was my 20th birthday the day this was recorded, here I am almost 66 and still listening to the master at work

No shame zone. When you get confused, just listen to the music play, and forget all the rest 🙏
Jerry always had a way with Dylan tunes. He was a true musical genius to say the least. Thanks Jerry; I am Forever Grateful!
So true . Jerry could express Dylan...

suppose so
Ironically, songs like Bertha are quite happy. Jerry must be schizophrenic as he can whip into extremes so naturally ❤ 🎸 💀
Oh Jerry, how sweet it was. My goodness is this a fabulous performance. You can hear the youth in his voice. Thank you Jerry.
Omg!!! Yes
Jerry, man, then. Jerry, angel, now. And may YOU play, forever. AMEN.
Tis the season to be grateful
AMEN

Rhythm, tempo, melody, timing and inflection...
Makes perfection, I've heard quite a few that come close to this version, yet to find it.
what a great version to groove out on, get your instrument out and close your eyes, jam along. super!
Been playing Bass for 7 years. 6 of them along almost exclusively with Jerry. Life is good.
Jerry got it all so right.awesome cover of bobby..love it!
I like when artists change the words slightly to songs, it's gives more of a personal feel to it.

Ain't that the truth. I have tears in my eyes right now.

Has a little something to do with a certain circle of greedy people, well within the corporate circle of the dead.
Keith hardly played like this with the Dead!
