Our Summer was so eventful! We survived our first serious drought..hay went from $80 to $500 per ton in one month as farmers realized there would be no second harvest. At the same time our Federal govt closed all federal agricultural lands which have produced 3/4 of all alfalfa hay in the Pacific Northwestern US..no explanation given. But at the same time I have to grow my new sheep farm so new sheep had to be added...and fed..
We lost our well..took 8 days to repair. 8 days of hauling water, organizing it to all the pastures and no showers! UGh! But God provides and we have come though. No animals were lost. Looking forward to our first lambing. Frantically finishing our lambing nursery. Always appreciate the thoughtful way you bring back the perspective of working to exhaustion, padding through frustrating hardships yet being at peace with hard work and personal accomplishments. Thanks again..looking forward to the next one!

What a wonderful, beautiful way of life. Ru, you are the perfect one to make these videos. You have the insight, sensitivity, and the voice to narrate. You know how to capture the way of life and how to captivate your audience. Thank you for this. From the United States.

I have only just discovered your channel and I think it is wonderful. I have been living and working on a farm for the past two years (I’m in my mid-50s, and previously worked as a journalist and university lecturer, so this is whole new world for me... and I absolutely love it.). Your videos articulate everything I think and feel about this way of life so beautifully. I hope you always continue to make them.

Watching from rural Pennsylvania in US. Your video about late summer on the farm brought back many fond memories. I would love to step back from this crazy world we are currently in and return to the peaceful and calm. Thanks for a great video Ru! 🙂

Hi ru and mum what a lovely video brings back memories of my childhood helping out on the farms around the village where me and my friends lived i was lucky and got a job working on one of them for 10 years until it was sold and we all lost our jobs it was a good feeling when the harvest was finished and you could see all the hard work you had put in over the last year safely gathered in and now we could a break and have a few beers down the local pub 😀 hope you have a good autumn and winter, greetings from denmark 🇩🇰 roy 😀.

Rufus, so glad to see and hear from you and your mum again. A good summer by the looks of it. Here in Holland we had rain, rain and rain again. Therefore it looks like we didn't have summer. It takes care of watering the garden, leaves on the trees stay green and the grass juicy. Your video and thoughts show us important things in life. Keep a keen eye on the things that surround you and take some time to appreciate them. Stay healthy and safe.

Real work and real life, have seasonal ups and downs. Frantic and pause. That's how life is meant to be. We're just coming out of a long, very wet winter (first day of spring today) which hasn't had as many deep-frost days (minus 6-10C) as usual. Here in lockdown, the world is green and very muddy. I can't take the tractor into the paddocks to feed out hay to the cattle (ours always live outdoors) because the tractor will get bogged or just rip everything up. But: daffodils, jonquils and grape hyacinths, leaf shoots on roses and plum trees will blossom soon. The first asparagus spears have dared to poke tips through the mulch and the hardy veg seedlings in the greenhouse will be ready to plant out soon. We lost 3 out of 4 dorper lambs to a dog attack (from nearby village🤬) but the remaining ram lamb will be raised to replace his daddy. Spring is hope.

Love this so much! We farm in Appalachia and it feels grounding as a human to care for the earth and the animals. You’re a story curator through words and images ~ beautiful work. Your precious mom seems like her beautiful heart is heavy. Thank you for showing the harder parts of farming too - it matters. Hoping your family can take a holiday soon!

So I was watching you sheer the sheep and I'm wondering why ??? Yes I know why we sheer sheep, but knowing that wool prices are rubbish could you not change sheep breeds either go for the Wiltshire horn or the new easy sheep breed both do not need sheering which would take some of the maintenance cost down and I'm thinking time wise as well as money wise
