Rose barbare is nice but I get sick of it after an hour or so and want to wash it off. I enjoy your reviews as always!!!

I was sampling the three of these at the boutique the past weekend. Cruel Gardenia was a shock. I asked the SA if they somehow have a mislabeled bottle. It literally smells like soap to me. Joyeuse Tuberose was a pleasant surprise. I love Les Indemodables Fougere Emeraude and maybe this exist in the same world. Rose Barbare is on my want list, strangely I don't perceive any honey...it's more like rose aldehydes but balanced to my liking.
I have almost zero reference as to what gardenia smells like so I'm not entirely sure how to interpret it.
I put barbare on skin and it was much nicer
@@RichMitch All the gardenia perfumes I've tried do a piss poor job of simulating gardenia imo. But saying that, I expected something white floral-ish lol.

i love joyeuse. fortunately not an in your face tubereuse scent. just a nice mix of those white florals, wet greenness and soft vanilla. gorgeous!
(people would go nuts if it was in a frederic malle bottle… 😝)

I love some of these, not all. The newest ones are very meh. My favourite in this collection is Bois d’Armenie, followed by Cuir Beluga and Angelique Noire. The discontinued Rose Nacree du Desert was a great resinous rose, and a decant of Iris Ganache I had was one of the best things I’ve smelt 🥲. I wish they still made that one.
It's always the way. The discontinued ones are always the best 😔

Matthew's art deserves some respect too
To be honest I am not huge on the Art & la Matière collection. There are so many overrated fragrances in that collection. Most when you consider the current price of that collection (325€ for 100ml). I much prefer the work of Jacques & Jean Paul Guerlain
They all lean feminine to me
I'm very unimpressed by the prices of the line, a huge drawback. I thought Frenchy Lavande was lovely but worth under half what it's being sold for
@RichMitch if you think these are bad the extraits are £495 for 50ml! Absolutely mental nobody is paying that!
I still need to try Rose Barbare. I loved Angelique Noire, the drydown is probably the best vanilla i ever smelled, but its a huge loud feminine scent

Angelique Noir might be one the best vanilla perfumes along with SDV (IMHO), Tonka Imperiale and Cuir Beluga are another highlights but not at these prices (and certainly you must like vanilla)
I'm definitely looking forward to the sdv and cuir beluga. Angelique was a tough experience today, will try on skin

I gotta try Angelique on skin, it had that pepper thing and I was spooked like a horse
@@RichMitch I see what you mean with the pepper thing. A hard to describe cedary pepperiness sometimes puts me a little bit off too, though I really like it on the whole.
Bois D’Armenie is the best imo

I like your honesty. I feel like Habit Rouge prive should have been in the Art et la Matiere. But Guerlain likes to discontinue many of their great creations

@@R.N.19 quite a bit of it, actually. The sparkly aldehydes, the powdery lavender/vanilla to that unquantifiable animalic vibe
@@RichMitch Fascinating. You are like one of the few Fragrance connaisseurs that dislikes it. I will have to revisit the fragrance. I guess it was quite unique for its conception and time period.
@@R.N.19 very few dislike it and I wish I did like it but, every once in a while, it just doesn't happen. I sold my vintages of it. Same thing with the original polo, you can't force it and best thing to do is trust your own nose and be happy with what you have
