Though I'm not really into motorbikes, and I really enjoy your canal journeys, this has to be the best vlog around Scotland that I've seen, and will miss it when it ends. THANKYOU.
wow cant believe just how much the landscape is so lush and green compared to the rough terrain of Lewis and Harris - a must to add to our road trip - thanks for sharing your travels
Another great video Kevin. I am reminded how late the sun goes down there during the summer. I was temporarily stationed on the island of Shetland for short time while in the US Coast Guard. It was like another world for me at that time. I look forward to your video from there. Well done as always.
Hi from Arkansas, USA ( been a while since I've made any comments). My husband and I watch you faithfully on my husband's youtube account. We've been watching since you began, on youtube, to Amazon, and back again to youtube.☺️ We have been ENJOYING your break from the narrowboat doing the motorbike series. Scotland is so beautiful!!! And seeing it at your pace, through your eyes, we are in awe of everything about the islands. Thank you, Kevin. 👍😁✌️✌️ By the way, you are obviously shrinking as the weeks go by... please stay hardy and healthy. 😊
Absolutely loved the color contrast of the green pasture to the dark blue water. If it was that striking on film, I imagine it was breathtaking in person. ❤️
Best flog to start a new year. Colors are not to be believed, I am so glad we saw the causways! Thanks, Kev, for the cliffhanger. Can't wait to see Shetland. dirtyside down, my friend. 😊
what a great idea, this motorcycle tour of some of the Scottish islands -- saw on the internet that a main factor in the agricultural production choices you mentioned seem to revolve around the costs of shipping the produce to the outer islands or the mainland -- anticipating next week's post!!
Speaking of the farm stay smells I am on team Kevin . I lived in a rural area of New Jersey USA and welcomed that aroma every spring as it told me winter was over . Loving the bike series.
Yes, country air is best for clearing out all the toxins. Wow, that pasture scene really was a load of bollards! Oops-wrong series-I meant a load of bullocks.🐂😁 Great episode...catch you on the ferry to Shetland. Cheers.
Although they didn't appear in the video, I hope you got to see the Italian Chapel and St Margaret's Hope. We enjoyed both very much on our visit in 2006. Thanks for another great video, Kevin. Cheers.
My relatives are farmers and about the only smell I ever had trouble with on the farm is fresh cut alfalfa. One of the worst smells is sugar beets (or paper) being processed, not to mention getting stuck behind a truck hauling rotten sugar beets. Thanks for another good video.
Thanks Kevin! Have a cup of hot flavored water (I mean... "flavoured"...). Start the new year right! I like the comment about "country air!" Our goats, and the neighboring chicken farms create a very country aroma! Safe travels in 2025!!! I sense your Scottish Isles tour is winding down. Looking forward to your next adventure... no matter what it is! 🛥🏍⛵🛥
Hello Kevin, You were very chatty and relaxed in this episode. It was nice seeing you enjoying yourself. I have to agree with you that Stromness and Kirkwall are the nicest towns so far, but in my opinion Stornaway is not far behind. I hope the crossing to Lerwick was comfortable. We touched down at Kirkwall Airport to unload and upload passengers on the way to Shetland and vice versa, so you could say I’ve been to Orkney 😂 Looking forward to next week’s episode.
Many thanks Connie and it's been a pleasure to enjoy your viewership throughout the year. I'm a touch envious. Haven't flown since I was a kid and would love to experience landing at smaller runways. Seat of the pants I bet 🙂
@ Yes, indeed. I must admit to hanging onto Kevin when taking off at Inverness, but I soon got used to it and the return flight was fine. I even managed to appreciate the lovely sunshine when approaching back into Inverness after all the wind we had had on Shetland!
Ah yes they definitely need a bit more wind on Shetland. Billy Connolly says that mothers have to tie their children go railings outside shops to stop them blowing away. 🤭
Thanks Kevin, it was great to see the biker fan boys at the beginning of this leg of the trip (even if you have round legs), lol. I wonder if those ship hulks were sunk prior to building the man made causeways? This was a very beautiful part of your adventure and I can imagine that the smells really went well with the atmosphere of the cattle farming area, I used to work on dairy farms as a young lad and I loved it. Take care and all the best. Stevie
I don't know if you know who Faith Hill or Ralph Emery are? But, she re-recorded "Take Another Piece of My Heart." Ralph asked her if she chose that song because she was a fan of Janis Joplin. She said; "Whose that?" I knew then that the world of music was in trouble. I wonder how many people under 40 would even get your references to Robert Johnson. I love your delta blues theme music. I wish we still had good blues and R&B instead of cRAP and Pop. Rock on dude....
@His family in Mississippi had not gotten any royalties from his music because no proof of his paternity could be proved. An attorney friend of mine brought the case to court. The attorney for the relatives getting the royalties got up and said there was no way paternity could be proven. My friend got a friend of Robert Johnson’s mother’s on the stand. He asked how could she be sure Robert Johnson was fathered by a certain man? She answered,” we was walking down the lane, me with my boyfriend and her with her boyfriend. They went in the bushes and was doing the same thing we was doing.” Case closed.. They started getting the royalties after all those years. Great story.
Really enjoying these videos. But now that it is January, I hope that your not anywhere near the disaster on the Bridgewater Canal. That's an awful situation there.
Salute 🫡 from the “Off Roadie Brigade”. You are such a nerd, and I am here for every bit of your obscure and humorous asides! Happy new year, Kevin. May 2025 bring all good things your way.
Absolutely enjoying your trip through Scotland . Wondering if there are any plans to do a trip through Ireland . Thanks Kevin, keep doing it, you’re a great tour guide.
Great video Kevin, it reminded me of newsreels from the Falkland war, albeit considerably more peaceful. Looking forward to the next episode as usual. Hope you had a good Christmas and Hogmanay. 😂 . Have been watching the Bridgewater Canal debacle and the Taylor’s on Olive drone coverage. Phew, what a disaster! Apart from the Mindful boater I’m not getting enough fill of narrowboat video so need to see you and Aslan out and about. Thanks Kevin for your impeccable videos. Mike
I like the overnight ferry to Lerwick, I would love to go someday. It looks so clean with all the amenities and the sleeping pod looks cool, is it comfy? Looking forward to the Shetland video.
Kevin, I believe those cows know you? You’re more familiar than you think! 😂 Love your thought about SPACE, I thought the same The Final Frontier 😅. Cheers, Charlie from Pennsylvania 😊
The lights at the end of the air strip are for glide path. If you see red over red your dead, red over white your alright , white over white fly all night on the bi color system. On the 4 side by side system, no lights too high, 1 light slightly high, 2 lights glide path, 3 lights slightly low, 4 lights way too low. Tri color top to bottom, Amber to high, green glide path, red to low. Flashing system 2 colors, flashing white to high, steady white flashing red glide path, steady red below path, flashing red way below glide path. These are the ones I remember that use lights when I use to fly. There is one that I used a lot and I called it the gun sight. 3- 4'x8' size panels on towers. The one in the middle was on the tallest tower, the 2 side panels were on towers about 1/2 to 3/4 the height of the center tower and were set back behind so when you were on the glide path the panel seemed to line up side by side. day time only
Kev have you seen the drone footage of the recent breach? How long will it take to get the canal operable, massive job, too big for CRT I think. Regards from Chester
Difficult to say but if it's anything like the Middlewich Canal breach, that took a year. Incidentally, this canal is nothing to do with CRT. It's the Bridgewater Canal Company.
Four-legged cattle 🐄 are lovely creatures. They are a valuable & critical component of our lives for many reasons. On the other hand, two-legged cattle-more often than not-aren’t necessarily worthwhile.
Hi Kevin. Interested in your views on the breaching of the Bridgewater Canal. Is this something that could have been avoided and an incident waiting to happen or purely due to the amount of rain water? Are there other areas that this could happen to? Sorry, I know this is off-topic from the stunning Scottish Islands road trip. So, please forgive my intrusion.
Umm, canal construction isn't really my area of expertise but from what I've seen it looks like a tree was blown over, pushing over the metal sides of the canal, with the water then washing the embankment away.
Happy new year Kevin. So you’re into flight simulators eh? In the unlikely event you find yourself in the Cambridgeshire area I’ll happily take you out for a flight in a GA aircraft.
@ I must admit I’m not a fan of bike tours so while I’ve watched all your narrow boat travels from the beginning I’ve not watched much of your bike travels. Was good to see Orkney again as I went there for 4 years scuba diving the grand fleet from stromesss
So I'm guessing after 31 episodes that your trip research is only concerned with where to camp, when to catch a ferry and where to find a Tesco. When you rode from Stromness to St Margaret's Hope and back to Kirkwall you surely would have appreciated knowing you rode right around the top of Scapa Flow and that the causeways you crossed twice were the Churchill Barriers ordered built during WW2 by Winston Churchill after the daring 1939 U-boat attack dodging through sunken block ships and small islands to sink the British battleship HMS Royal Oak with the loss of almost 900 men. 1200 Italian prisoners of war built the causeways and also built a stunning commemorative chapel which you also passed. Scapa Flow the major British Navy fleet anchorage in both World Wars and one of the world's greatest protected anchorages and where 89 ships of the WW1 German fleet were scuttled by their German crews rather than be surrendered at the war's end. Instead of hours of boredom in that campsite lounge maybe you could have had a look at Scara Brae, the oldest and best preserved Neolithic village in Northern Europe.
I rarely research any of my trips. No sense of discovery if you know what's going to be there before you arrive. Since that particular episode went up however, I've learned many things thanks entirely to informative and educational comments, such as your own. Cheers,
The wrecks are almost certainly Block Ships from WW2 and the war memorials are not just for the fallen Scotsmen. Love watching your films . But wish you would stop awhile and explain more about what you are seeing. I think you could make more films this way. Not a rebuke as such, but I can see that this series will end soon and I think you could make more of future videos by getting off the bike or barge and exploring on foot.
Indeed John, I've moored up on the canals over the past 8 years, walked to and shown many places, but this road trip is more as I've discussed throughout - riding a motorcycle across 6 islands and 9 ferry journeys. Of course I've looked at countless towns and sights along the way.
Dude, just avoid anything from the company ACME !! Just before seeing your video, I released my own fragrance. The people in the car was not impressed. Those ship wrecks are wow. It is not understandable why you do not have 100k subscribed, especially with the older group. Your camera etiquette is premier and I know it must take you time to edit. When will we see you and Aslan again ?
Hi. After the road trip.
Great episode, Kevin. Loved the curious cows and the rural landscape, (kind of like western North Dakota.)
Happy New Year to you and all of your subscribers!😊 ....from Bergen/Norway.
Another great video Kevin. I am reminded how late the sun goes down there during the summer. I was temporarily stationed on the island of Shetland for short time while in the US Coast Guard. It was like another world for me at that time. I look forward to your video from there. Well done as always.
Curious cows what a start to another road trip. Love it! Thanks for every thing. From Australia.
You were blessed with the weather. Stunning landscapes. Thoroughly enjoyed riding vicariously with you. Looking forward to Shetland.
Shetland is incredible Dan. Never stopped to look at so many scenes.
Good video Kevin and clear skies.

WOW! what a spectacular road for an awesome bike ride. The weather and lack of cars are a bonus. Enjoy!
Absolutely loved the color contrast of the green pasture to the dark blue water. If it was that striking on film, I imagine it was breathtaking in person. ❤️
Yep! It’s Friday! It’s CHG time again. Watched the last episode 3 times already, so a new episode is welcome!❤ Oh, happy new year to you as well Kev!
Love cows…and love the way they were all lined up to see what you were about. I couldn’t have resisted giving each one a little pet.

Thankyou happy new year take care
Happy New Year. What a joy it is watching your vlogs. 😊
Thank you Deborah and best wishes for 2025.
Excellent Kevin! Happy New Year!
Best wishes for 2025 James.
Loved your Elmer Fudd "Hunting rabbits" reference.

Your mention of Robert Johnson reminded me he was born in the town I grew up in, Crystal Springs, Mississippi. Happy New Year.
That's very interesting. His early life (most of his life) is mainly shrouded in mystery.
Love your Elmer Fudd impression 😉

I've been enjoying the Scottish roadtrip series. Happy New Year, Kev. Viktoria

Great weather for Dec/Jan! 😁
And for April/May 2024. 😁
great vlog on trave on bike keep up the great vlog thanks for share
Absolutely enjoying your trip through Scotland . Wondering if there are any plans to do a trip through Ireland . Thanks Kevin, keep doing it, you’re a great tour guide.

Thanks Kevin 😃
Your going round Scapa Flow thse wrecks are probably what remains of the blockships
Miss the canal stuff , hope you do it again soon
I like the overnight ferry to Lerwick, I would love to go someday. It looks so clean with all the amenities and the sleeping pod looks cool, is it comfy? Looking forward to the Shetland video.
Umm, the sleeping pods were an experience. Torturously uncomfortable. Not recommended 😆
Nice one Kevin 👍 Stay safe
Kevin, I believe those cows know you? You’re more familiar than you think! 😂 Love your thought about SPACE, I thought the same The Final Frontier 😅. Cheers, Charlie from Pennsylvania 😊
So true Charlie, I bump into fans all over the place. 🙂 Wishing you a peaceful 2025.
Lovely weather again.
I love the smell of silage too.
Could have gone for another drive it was so light.
Wondering if you saw the Northern Lights.

@CountryHouseGent Kev just googled it breached in 1971 and it's owned by Peel Holdings is that correct?
@philipjones9458 Peel Holdings is the parent company, yes.
Happy New Year, Kevin!
Happy new year!
I may be ready to attempt a short trip driving in the British Islands after all these island trips.
I’m kinda getting used to this.
Driving on the left for the first time is like driving on the right for me - you get used to it really quickly.
Its not garbage your mind comes up with its sanity
You should be there in good time for the Up Helly Aa festival.
Happy New Year, Kevin!!! 🎉
And best wishes to you for 2025, Johnny

Episode 31? Blimmin' eck.
If you raise livestock , you will have few neighbors. Need lots of grazing land. The Great Plains in U.S. similar. Long open views.
Where is the tank bag?
I left it at the campsite as I was returning there the same day.
Happy new year Kevin. So you’re into flight simulators eh? In the unlikely event you find yourself in the Cambridgeshire area I’ll happily take you out for a flight in a GA aircraft.
Thanks Richard, I would enjoy that very much.
No trees 😮
I think they've all blown across to Norway 😁
Awww Kevin ,is this nearly the end ☹️
Yes Shetland is the last island. 🤗
I’ve got one word to say to you, Scapa Flow.
That's two words.
I for 1 would rather smell the country rather than the city anyday. Todays cities are minging
Have you ever thought of turning the camera that points at you to the right so we could see more of the scenery?
People should be told that if they object to countryside smells they should stay out of the country. !
Did you visit twat (it’s a place) or scarab bray ?
Yes I took a selfie at Twatt in Episode 29 😁

Kevin, 118 for a cabin. splurge
I couldn't on the principle that 7 or 8 hours in a tiny room sleeping on a mattress isn't worth 118 quid 😎

What flavour?
