A bit of advice with the "acorn" microphone: if you want to remove that nasty resonant frequency that tarnishes the sound a bit (I would call it a bit of hollow sound, but everyone will have different descriptors), you could pack all the void space of the toy capsule with cotton balls to stop the shell of the capsule from vibrating.
people always complain when a youtuber has poor mic quality but i think that most of the time it adds a charm to the video and a degree of relatability
People just complain to complain 😂 sadly idk why ? Maybe they just mad about everything or let everything bother them but the world doesn't revolve around them so too bad for them is what I always say! 🤣
We had a rotary phone at my house until 2006. 😅 my mom loved it so much, and I used one until adulthood. She still keeps it in the living room but it no longer has a connection, just uses it for aesthetic. Hearing this made me feel oddly nostalgic from when i used to call up my friends. Very cool video.
I haven't heard you sing yet, but don't worry if you aren't the very best, your speaking voice is GOLD! It's so relaxing and soft with a slightly roughened texture , like a long furred kitty cat who never draws blood with their claws but lets you know they have them and could. I just love it!
I did the same thing about 30 years ago as a kid after hearing the Was Not Was song "Hello Dad, I'm In Jail"...and somehow figured out the part where you have to talk into the earpiece (not the mouthpiece). Still have it. Sounds wild plugged into a guitar amp/effects.
I didn't know that about the rotary phones. I'm a little too young for rotary, but my grandparents had one and I used to play with it. I have fond memories of old phones.
Oh this kind of thing is so my jam! That phone mic sounds so classic! No need for filters and effects when you can just have it sound like that from the start. :) The Acorn has a cool sound that reminds me of like, underwater or something? Love this.
We have some old house phones that we bought because we liked the look of them. Especially my old Micky Mouse touchtone phone. What I always wanted to do with them was rig up some sort of house phone intercom system. Where you could have a cool phone in each room of the house, and if you knew the number to the room you wanted to call, you could just dial room to room.
They could both certainly benefit from a pop filter but the Acorn mic really sounded the best whiles still having that lofi feel. This was a great little steadycraf!
Honestly a great (and more importantly cheap) way to recreate old sounds, doing so with digital editing can make it feel wrong and it's especially hard to understand for those who are trying to make things look and sound old but have never interacted with them before.
I always think its funny when other things I watch show up here. Been watching Gingerroot music videos for a few years. Also loved in Miniac showed up.
Aww, man! I was looking forward to the woodpecker noise, in the intro blurb. Seems to have been removed. Ah, well This is a fun video. I can think of a lot of uses for the retro voice sound
I think it's kind of a shame to use the XLR cable, the original telephone cable with its springy spiraliness is a big part of the coolness of the old handset!
Crafsman! You forgot to tell them about the party line! It turned you into a business man because whatever business you're talking about is everybody's business on a party line.

Yeah I agree, only half the time the poor microphone is actually tough to listen to

As long as I can understand what they're saying I don't care.
I always love any Crafsman video where he talks about sound, voice, audio, etc. He always seems so passionate and knowledgeable about the material.
I'm just glad he started showing us some of his other interests like this because I know this is the stuff he really really loves
My husband and I grew up with rotary phones. I never knew about the dialing trick. Cool! Thank you.
I'm a part of a band where each of us sings into a phone mic. I got really excited to see this DIY!

I remember them on the walls most comfortable phones ever on your ears. Along with the long cables! Yessir! 😁👍🏼
I like the Acorn!!
Hold the phone!!! absolutely genius bro!
I didn't know that about the rotary phones. I'm a little too young for rotary, but my grandparents had one and I used to play with it. I have fond memories of old phones.
Love the $1 mic idea, and yeah, that was some mighty fine clarity out of that thing!
Ive seen one band use these before and it sounded so cool. old school telephones have a certain charm to them.
I'm just happy the Crafsman is also a fan of Ginger Root. Just saw them in concert recently!
Crafsman + Hackers reference = a beautiful friday
Fantastic job. This video should include a adjustable, safety belt for the impact of it 😂❤
Crafsman, your voice is a great comfort. I hope you have a groovy holiday season my friend.

Thanks Crafty. I hope you have fun singing.
I work at a college theater. I've had to teach grown adults how to use a rotary phone. I've also had people surprised by records having two sides.

MAN, you have a place in my heart. You make my day every time i watch you. ASMR are gonna be scouting you out
Somehow your videos always hit when I need to calm down.

Honestly a great (and more importantly cheap) way to recreate old sounds, doing so with digital editing can make it feel wrong and it's especially hard to understand for those who are trying to make things look and sound old but have never interacted with them before.

👍
Neat. I see retro handsets for use with cellphone some are even Bluetooth. What would it take to turn an old handset into one of these?
💙💙💙
👍👍
Deep
Im 43 i had same in my house as a kid also tv had a 10 ft cord to remote and I have hackers on VHS
🙏💕
It feels like Gambit is narrating this video lol
Crafsman!!!!!!
Mr. Crafsman, are you from the South?... because your voice sounds like what I imagine southern hospitality would sound like.
I’m pretty sure Les Paul made a microphone or guitar pickup that way when he was a kid playing acoustics.
I think it's kind of a shame to use the XLR cable, the original telephone cable with its springy spiraliness is a big part of the coolness of the old handset!
"bro u got a crappywalmart mic. Get a better one!" "no, ill make a better one"
its dual tone multi frequency
I wanna hear Uncle Catfish
Crafsman! You forgot to tell them about the party line! It turned you into a business man because whatever business you're talking about is everybody's business on a party line.
So what happened to the real Crafsman?
Hacksman steady hacking
Why do I get the feeling Crafsman got a blue box somewhere around there?
Lol! I did build my own lineman’s handset, but didn’t build too many of the 2600 boxes. Thank you for this comment!
Always add you a black wash!
"E.T. phone home..."
Oh snap, Hackers BURN
