Probably out of context for this book, but I'm kind of sitting here like "good for him" for leaving his money to a stranger. 😆 Also, I'm with you. If a book doesn't answer the _primary_ question, then I'm not motivated to read the next book in the series. And it's a trilogy, right? So it's likely your question isn't even answered in the second book.

I loved it. Although, I felt the cliffhanger was sorta part of the charm of the book, and I love mysteries.
